Book All Fourths A Method For EADGCF Tuning On Guitar

Download or read book All Fourths A Method For EADGCF Tuning On Guitar written by Masaya Yamaguchi and published by Masaya Music. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Guitar Method utilizing all fourths tuning (E, A, D, G, C, F - low to high). If I was starting to learn to play the guitar today, and somebody gave me a guitar today, I'd tune it in straight fourths without a doubt. Just like the six-string bass, 'cause to find that B string is a pain, and it's unnecessary, 'cause you play ... you know ... there's only a few of us that go around bashing out power chords anymore, so you don't need that anyway, so if I was to learn again, it's just that it's been so many years trying to beat the B string that I can't go and un-beat it. --Allan Holdsworth

Book Miles Davis New Research on Miles Davis His Circle

Download or read book Miles Davis New Research on Miles Davis His Circle written by Masaya Yamaguchi and published by Masaya Music. This book was released on 2019-06-06 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masaya Yamaguchi is Japanese-born musician and educator, who lives in the US. This book grew out of research Yamaguchi did on Miles' autobiography, which was written by Quincy Troupe from hours of transcribed interviews with Miles. Yamaguchi obtained 1200 pages of the transcripts and has meticulously and painstakingly researched and checked the contents. He finds various errors and anomalies, and corrects the information with strong evidence. The book is full of images of transcript pages (which include content not seen in the autobiography), letters and memos. There's plenty of stuff about Miles'1980s music, especially on the guitarists Miles used during this era (thelastmiles.com/library_milesdavis_4/).

Download or read book Fourths Tuning written by Graham Tippett and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2017-09-03 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tune your B and E strings up to C and F respectively and you're in all fourths tuning. The first time I did this it was truly a revelation to me to have a symmetrical fretboard and get rid of that major third 'bump' from the G to B string in standard tuning. Everything suddenly became far more manageable and logical, and I began to experience a freedom on the fretboard that I'd never quite found in standard tuning. To be honest, there isn't much in the way of material for fourths tuning on guitar, so I decided to write a chords and inversions book for anyone wishing to expand their knowledge of chords in fourths tuning, or to help with the transition from standard to fourths tuning. There are over 30 types of chords and inversions in this book, including open chords, closed and spread voiced triads, plus virtually every other type of chord and inversion you'll need to play anything from rock to jazz. You'll find a logical progression of chord types as well as easy-to-read chord diagrams which present the most essential and usable chords in all fourths tuning on guitar. This paperback version also features blank chord boxes on almost every page to record your own findings.

Book excerpt: Following on from, ‘Fourths Tuning – Chords and Inversions’ (also available on Google Play), I wanted to share a number of ways to see scales and arpeggios in fourths tuning that really take advantage of having a fretboard with a symmetrical layout. This book is divided into three sections. In the first, we look at how to transfer your knowledge of scales and arpeggios from standard tuning to fourths tuning, so as not to have to start again from scratch. In the second section, we go deeper into scales and arpeggios using a system borne out of the symmetrical nature of fourths tuning, and which will have you playing scales and arpeggios easily and freely all over the fourths fretboard in a matter of hours. In the final section, we abandon shapes and patterns all together and really begin to take advantage of the consistent interval layout in fourths tuning to form chords, arpeggios and scales on the fly using interval formulas. If you're transitioning from standard to fourths tuning, this book will guide you along the way and help you make the most of the exciting world of all fourths tuning on guitar.

Download or read book Fourths Tuning written by Graham Tippett and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-05-14 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There's a beautiful symmetry about modes in fourths tuning (E, A, D, G, C, F or any variation thereof) that's well-worth exploring, which is why I've dedicated an entire book to it. With that B-string bump out of the way, we're free to explore modes both as scales in their own right and as parent scales belonging to a key. There's just something about fourths tuning that makes the transition from theory to practice, and then mastery, a fairly effortless one.In this book our objective will be to follow this process in order to incorporate the modes of the major scale and the melodic minor scale into our playing. What I'll provide you with is a concise and effective explanation of the theory behind modes (should you need it), then a system to put this knowledge into practice on the fourths fretboard without learning endless scale patterns or drilling rote patterns. We'll do this both for parent scales (modes applied to diatonic chord progressions) and modes as scales in their own right (modes for improvising over isolated chords or non-diatonic progressions in fusion styles). What's more, if you're making the transition from standard tuning to fourths, this book will help you organize modes on the fourths fretboard and fill in any gray areas you may have had in standard tuning. We'll also learn how to instantly find the parent scale of any mode, how to come up with modal chord progressions, how to properly use backing tracks, as well as clearing up all the doubts that arise when learning modes for the first time.

Book The Guitar and its Music

Download or read book The Guitar and its Music written by James Tyler and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2002-08-29 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following on from James Tyler's The Early Guitar: A History and Handbook(OUP 1980) tthis collaboration with Paul Sparks (their previous book for OUP, The Early Mandolin, appeared in 1989), presents new ideas and research on the history and development of the guitar and its music from the Renaissance to the dawn of the Classical era. Tyler's systematic study of the two main guitar types found between about 1550 and 1750 focuses principally on what the sources of the music (published and manuscript) and the writings of contemporary theorists reveal about the nature of the instruments and their roles in the music making of the period. The annotated lists of primary sources, previously published in The Early Guitar but now revised and expanded, constitute the most comprehensive bibliography of Baroque guitar music to date. His appendices of performance practice information should also prove indispensable to performers and scholars alike. Paul Sparks also breaks new ground, offering an extensive study of a period in the guitar's history—notably c.1759-c.1800—which the standard histories usually dismiss in a few short paragraphs. Far from being a dormant instrument at this time, the guitar is shown to have been central to music-making in France, Italy, the Iberian Peninsula, and South America. Sparks provides a wealth of information about players, composers, instruments, and surviving compositions from this neglected but important period, and he examines how the five-course guitar gradually gave way to the six-string instrument, a process that occurred in very different ways (and at different times) in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Britain.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to answer guitarists demands for my lessons. Ultimately, it depends on who will learn it and how they utilize my method. Over the years, I had been asked to compile my guitar method book, but I was very reluctant to do so until I completed my improvisation book Yamaguchi Improvisation Method (New York: Masaya Music, 2012). Because after all, my priority is to teach music, especially improvised music --- not how to play the guitar. Though this book required a huge amount of work to complete, I finished it for all my fellow guitar players, who regularly use my The Complete Thesaurus of Musical Scales. The YAMAGUCHI Guitar method in this book is highly original and much different from most books in today s jazz pedagogy. This is a new kind of guitar method book that will leave no student behind if you interpret my words correctly. I hope the YAMAGUCHI Guitar method will guide you to unlock melodic possibilities and broaden your musical vocabulary. GOOD LUCK!

Book How to Play Like Allan Holdsworth

Download or read book How to Play Like Allan Holdsworth written by Graham Tippett and published by Unlock the Guitar. This book was released on 2016-07-13 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since my first guitar teacher introduced me to the music of Allan Holdsworth in the late 90s, it has been an ongoing apprenticeship. I became fascinated, not only with his music, but with his approach to music itself, and the way he thinks about chords, scales and improvisation. Allan’s REH video was a blessing for me as I was able to glean enough insight into his playing to understand the way the great man thinks, and more importantly to begin to apply those concepts to my own playing. I struggled with music theory and orthodox approaches, so when Allan’s beautifully simple way of thinking about chords and scales clicked for me, I knew I had found something that finally made sense. I must admit, I couldn’t play you a single Allan Holdsworth lick, and I wouldn’t want to as the thought of dissecting his music in that way was always unappealing to me. What I wanted to do was get inside his head, grasp his way of thinking about music, and find out exactly how he was able to come up with such intricate yet outrageous lines and compositions. And that is precisely what this book is about. Allan’s playing looks incredibly complicated, and then some, to the innocent bystander, but the approach behind it is incredibly simple and easy to grasp. It’s so straightforward in fact that most players who have attempted to describe what he does completely miss the point. Once you do understand his approach, however, you’ll have a new appreciation for how far he’s taken it, and how far it can go. This book is not for the faint-hearted, but you shouldn’t be put off by thinking that you’ll be getting to grips with a lot of tricky concepts, because you won’t; Allan’s way of thinking is almost childlike in its simplicity, and when you glimpse it I can assure you that you'll be intrigued.
