Download or read book Grieving Dads written by Kelly Farley and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grieving Dads: To the Brink and Back is a collection of candid stories from grieving dads that were interviewed over a two year period. The book offers insight from fellow members of, in the haunting words of one dad, "this terrible, terrible club," which consists of men who have experienced the death of a child. This book is a collection of survival stories by men who have survived the worst possible loss and lived to tell the tale. They are real stories that pull no punches and are told with brutal honesty. Men that have shared their deepest and darkest moments. Moments that included thoughts of suicide, self-medication and homelessness. Some of these men have found their way back from the brink while others are still standing there, stuck in their pain. The core message of Grieving Dads is "you're not alone." It is a message that desperately needs to be delivered to grieving dads who often grieve in silence due to society's expectations. Grieving Dads: To the Brink and Back is a book that no grieving dad or anyone who cares for him should be without. As any grieving parent will tell you, there are no words to describe the hell one experiences after the death of a child. Many men have no clue how to deal with or understand the myriad emotional, mental, and physical responses experienced after the death of a child. Stories appearing in the book have been carefully selected to represent a cross-section of fathers, as well as a diverse portrayal of loss. This approach helps reflect the full spectrum of grief, from the early days of shock and trauma to the long view after living with loss for many years. Any bereaved father will find brotherhood in these pages, and will feel that someone understands them. While there is plenty of raw emotion in this book-the stories are not exercises in self-pity nor are they studies in grief. They are survival stories instead. Some are testimonies to hope. Some are gut-wrenching accounts of overwhelming despair. But all of them are real-life stories from real-life grieving dads, and they show that even if one reaches his physical and emotional bottom, it is possible (although not easy) to live through that pain and find one's way to the other side of grief. Most dads in this book found themselves in a state of physical, mental, and emotional collapse after the death of their child. As if the losses alone weren't enough to drive these men to the brink, most try to deal with their grief according to the conventional wisdom so many men are brought up with, which perversely, increases their suffering all the more. We all know the party line about how men are "supposed" to deal with loss or even disappointment: toughen up, get back to work, take it like a man, support your wife, don't talk about your emotions, don't lose control, and if you must cry-by all means do so in private.

Download or read book Poetic Struggles written by Lenard Pierce and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-11-19 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why I Wrote! What Made Me Write My Books? I wrote Testimonial Poetry and Poetic Struggles to share my experiences. It consists of my personal Testimony of how God has answered my prayers. How He has blessed me and save me from a life of self destruction. I consider Testimonial Poetry to be instrumental and encouraging to others who are faced with trouble, adversity, addiction, and a lack of hope and faith. This is my way of doing God’s work. I believe that my readers will find my Testimony to be uplifting and very beneficial. How Did My Books Change My Life? In answering that question, it’s too soon to tell. However, just the acceptance by my publisher and the encouragement the staff has given me is a serious confidence boost. I can now be considered a legitimate author with the publication of two books, Testimonial Poetry and Poetic Struggles. How Did My Work Change Others Lives? It was my objective that my work be an inspiration for others to seek God for hope, peace, prosperity and salvation; to submit their troubles and issues faithfully to God for His divine intervention. As for change in my relationships, the people closest to me have become extremely proud and supportive. They realized the sincerity and seriousness of my life taking a turn for the best. They love me more; they respect and support me wholeheartedly. What Would I Say To Someone Who Can’t Read? To an illiterate person I would say do not stay stuck in such a predicament. It’s never too late to learn. Unless you have some type of medical disability that hinders your learning, a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Do not be ashamed, stubborn, or too proud to seek the necessary help that can change your situation. First of all, prayer will get you started and faith will guide your paths. From The Author of Testimonial Poetry and Poetic Struggles. Lenard Pierce

Download or read book Daddy s Girl written by Charlotte Vale-Allen and published by Island Nation Press LLC. This book was released on 2002 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Writing Daddy's GirlAfter I had been through many versions of the manuscript (written over almost a decade) I decided that for this book to have validity it would be necessary not only to show the past but also to give a picture of the present-illustrating how the events of my childhood affected me at the time, as well as later in life as an adult and a parent.Given that I wrote the book in the first place as a document that I hoped would be useful to others who'd suffered abuse and also to professionals, I felt it was very important to present detailed portraits of the child I was and the woman I grew to be (in large measure as a result of trying to cope with the long-term effects of the abuse.) As well, I thought it was vital to illustrate how fallout from the abuse can be felt down through the generations, if one fails to exercise awareness and caution. So the book weaves back and forth between past and present (the present being 1979, when the final version was completed). I also had to decide at the very start whether I was going to dole out snippets of truth or be completely truthful and address the issue as fully as I was able. There seemed no point to writing an autobiographical account of incest if I was going to be anything less than completely truthful. It was not difficult to tell the truth, nor was the writing of the book a cathartic experience, as many have imagined it to be. The fact is that I had long-since confronted my personal demons and had managed to relegate the past to the past-something exceedingly difficult for many victims of any/all forms of abuse to do.A few years ago in correcting the page proofs of a new British edition of the book, I reread DADDY'S GIRL, and was gratified by what I'd written. (Often, with my novels, I am not at all happy when I reread them.) I think that as an author I have little, if any, objectivity about my work once it's completed and so am not necessarily a good judge of it. But I am proud of DADDY'S GIRL. Since its publication in 1980 it has been of help to a lot of people. And, ultimately, it's my way of returning some measure of the kindness and attention people showed me when I was working my way along the rough roadway toward my future.
