Download or read book Ferrets Rabbits and Rodents E Book written by Katherine Quesenberry and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2011-05-12 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise guide to the care of small mammals, Ferrets, Rabbits, and Rodents: Clinical Medicine and Surgery covers the conditions seen most often in veterinary practice. The book emphasizes preventive medicine along with topics including disease management, ophthalmology, dentistry, and zoonosis. More than 400 illustrations demonstrate key concepts related to radiographic interpretation, relevant anatomy, and diagnostic, surgical, and therapeutic techniques. Now in full color, this edition adds coverage of more surgical procedures and expands coverage of zoonotic disease. From editors Katherine Quesenberry and James W. Carpenter, along with a team of expert contributors, the "Pink Book" provides an authoritative, single source of information that is hard to find elsewhere. A logical organization makes it quick and easy to find important information, with each section devoted to a single animal and chapters within each section organized by body system. Over 400 photographs and illustrations highlight key concepts such as radiographic interpretation and the main points of diagnostic, surgical, and therapeutic techniques. A chapter on ophthalmology provides hard-to-find information on eye care for ferrets, rabbits, rodents, and other small mammals. Coverage of preventive medicine includes basic biology, husbandry, and routine care of the healthy animal. The drug formulary supplies dosage instructions for ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, hamsters, rats/mice, prairie dogs, hedgehogs, and sugar gliders. Chapter outlines offer at-a-glance overviews of the contents of each chapter. Handy tables and charts make it easy to find key information. Expanded Zoonotic Diseases chapter adds more depth along with the latest information on the rising potential for disease transmission to humans as exotic pets become more popular. Additional surgical procedures for each species are included, some with step-by-step instructions accompanied by color photographs and line drawings. Full-color images show the sometimes minute structures of these small animals and make accurate diagnoses easier, especially for lymphoproliferative diseases of rabbits, endoscopy, cytology, and hematology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from All About Ferrets and Rats: A Complete History of Ferrets, Rats, and Rat Extermination From Personal Experiences and Study; Also a Practical Hand-Book on the Ferret Square Garden there was about one out of every fifteen persons that knew the name of the animal at all, and the ferrets were alternately designated as skunks, weas els, guinea-pigs, raccoons, monkeys, woodchucks, kit tens, puppies, squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, rats (an animal for which they are commonly mistaken), hares, martens, otters, small kangaroos, muskrats, beavers, seals, and, ridiculous as it may seem, small bears. The American race of ferrets has been bred to a high de gree of intelligence, as the proper medium of wildness in the hunt and docility to its keeper has been obtained principally through the efforts of the present writer. This, however, has only been brought about after a great deal of close study and experiment in cross breed ing, until now the American animal is greatly prefer able to its more sluggish and vicious English brother. Book Ferrets Rats and Traps

Download or read book Ferrets Rats and Traps written by Nicholas Everitt and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2021-03-22 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ferrets, Rats and Traps, originally published in 1897 as: "Ferrets Their Management in Health and Disease." By Nicholas Everitt. This hitherto rare and much sought after book was the first comprehensive work to be written on the subject of ferrets and ferreting in England. Over 200 pages of content deal with every aspect of the ferret and its use both as a working animal and for pleasure or profit. The author, an acknowledged expert in his field, wrote numerous short articles on "Ferrets and All About Them" for early editions of The Shooting Times. By popular demand he eventually reprinted them in book form, with additions and alterations, and published this to much critical acclaim in March 1897. Read Country Books has now re-published "Ferrets" in its original format, including the interesting black and white illustrations of ferreting, ferret equipment, and vermin traps. The books contents are arranged in two sections. The first 160 pages deal with the origins of the ferret and also discuss the polecat, weasel, stoat and marten. Also included in this section are recommendations for ferret hutches, yards and courts, with illustrations of these and also ferret traps and working boxes produced by trap manufacturers of the time. Other chapters deal with ferret management, breeding and rearing, including advice on ailments and disease. The comprehensive chapters on working ferrets are a fascinating record of rural sport in the late 19th century, and will appeal greatly to todays ferreters. Further chapters on the laws relating to ferrets and ferreting will prove of historical interest. Section two of the book deals with trapping and with rats, their origins, habits and control. The prevention methods discussed include ferreting, trapping, shooting, poisoning etc. Much mention is made of various manufacturers and their traps, with some of them being illustrated. This fascinating book ends with a descriptive chapter of an 1890's November days ferreting.

Book The New Sport of Minkenry

  • ISBN : 9781500400668
  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book The New Sport of Minkenry written by Joseph Carter and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-07-02 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mink are famous worldwide for their luxurious coat of fur, and yet most people know very little about them beyond their use as clothing. Even trappers, naturalists, and fur farmers, those who should know mink best, typically know only one side of the mink... their bad side. Those who do "know mink" will tell you how extremely aggressive and blood thirsty the mink is, and truth be told, they aren't that far off. But there is a different side to mink that very few have seen. This book not only tells how the art of Minkenry began, but more importantly, it is a step by step guide to those wanting to train a hunting mink. In this book I share how to tame, train, and properly care for this very intense little predator, the North American mink. Though still in its infancy, the sport of minkenry has been spreading thanks to the information sharing power of the Internet. First started in the western state of Utah, there are now minkeners springing up across the United States, and even as far away as the UK, Germany, France, and other European countries! As there is a growing need for a "how to" manual on the art of minkenry, this book was written specifically to fill that need. Minkenry is a very challenging sport, and is definitely not for everyone! Though highly intelligent, and surprisingly affectionate, mink are also very high-strung and stubborn creatures. They typically use their intelligence to work against you, far more than they do to work with you. Though not an adventure for the faint of heart; falconers, hunters, trappers, and other sportsmen worldwide, are being drawn to the art of minkenry with a pioneer's spirit. They have the desire to become part of something that has never been done before! If you yearn to experience the challenge of hunting with an aggressive, high strung, truly wild animal; then join us and become one of the pioneers in the new sport of minkenry!
