This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering Separations Unit Operations for Nuclear Processing provides insight into the fundamentals of separations in nuclear materials processing not covered in typical texts. This book integrates fuel cycle and waste processing into a single, coherent approach, demonstrating that the principles from one field can and should be applied to the other. It provides historical perspectives on nuclear materials processing, current assessment and challenges, and how past challenges were overcome. It also provides understanding of the engineering principles associated with handling nuclear materials. This book is aimed at researchers, graduate students, and professionals in the fields of chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, and materials engineering.

Download or read book The Environmental Challenges of Nuclear Disarmament written by Thomas E. Baca and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-08-31 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book draws together recognized experts from numerous institutions in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and North America. Nuclear facility decontamination and decommissioning, waste treatment, management and disposal, long-term monitoring and surveillance, and prevention of proliferation are the primary topics discussed, including critical assessments of the existing knowledge and identification of the needs for future collaboration. Proposals are presented for a variety of national and international agencies, and preliminary business plans developed for collaboration with private companies. A network of international projects needs to be financed since it is such projects that will ultimately ease tensions, help solve nuclear waste contamination and security problems, and help pave the road toward nuclear weapons disarmament.

Download or read book Industrial Environmental Chemistry written by Donald T. Sawyer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph consists of manuscripts submitted by invited speakers who participated in the symposium "Industrial Environmental Chemistry: Waste Minimization in Industrial Processes and Remediation of Hazardous Waste," held March 24-26, 1992, at Texas A&M University. This meeting was the tenth annual international symposium sponsored by the Texas A&M Industry-University Cooperative Chemistry Program (IUCCP). The program was developed by an academic-industrial steering committee consisting of the co-chairmen, Professors Donald T. Sawyer and Arthur E. Martell of the Texas A&M University Chemistry Department, and members appointed by the sponsoring companies: Bernie A. Allen, Jr., Dow Chemical USA; Kirk W. Brown, Texas A&M University; Abraham Clearfield, Texas A&M University; Greg Leyes, Monsanto Company; Jay Warner, Hoechst-Celanese Corporation; Paul M. Zakriski, BF Goodrich Company; and Emile A. Schweikert, Texas A&M University (IUCCP Coordinator). The subject of this conference reflects the interest that has developed in academic institutions and industry for technological solutions to environmental contamination by industrial wastes. Progress is most likely with strategies that minimize waste production from industrial processes. Clearly the key to the protection and preservation of the environment will be through R&D that optimizes chemical processes to minimize or eliminate waste streams. Eleven of the papers are directed to waste minimization. An additional ten papers discuss chemical and biological remediation strategies for hazardous wastes that contaminate soils, sludges, and water.
Download or read book Applied Biotechnology for Site Remediation written by Battelle Memorial In and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-03-08 with total page 520 pages.
