Download or read book Domain Decomposition Methods in Science and Engineering XVIII written by Michel Bercovier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th This volume contains a selection of 41 refereed papers presented at the 18 International Conference of Domain Decomposition Methods hosted by the School of ComputerScience and Engineering(CSE) of the Hebrew Universityof Jerusalem, Israel, January 12–17, 2008. 1 Background of the Conference Series The International Conference on Domain Decomposition Methods has been held in twelve countries throughout Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, beginning in Paris in 1987. Originally held annually, it is now spaced at roughly 18-month intervals. A complete list of past meetings appears below. The principal technical content of the conference has always been mathematical, but the principal motivation has been to make ef cient use of distributed memory computers for complex applications arising in science and engineering. The leading 15 such computers, at the “petascale” characterized by 10 oating point operations per second of processing power and as many Bytes of application-addressablem- ory, now marshal more than 200,000 independentprocessor cores, and systems with many millions of cores are expected soon. There is essentially no alternative to - main decomposition as a stratagem for parallelization at such scales. Contributions from mathematicians, computerscientists, engineers, and scientists are together n- essary in addressing the challenge of scale, and all are important to this conference.

Book An Introduction to Domain Decomposition Methods

Download or read book An Introduction to Domain Decomposition Methods written by Victorita Dolean and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to offer an overview of the most popular domain decomposition methods for partial differential equations (PDEs). These methods are widely used for numerical simulations in solid mechanics, electromagnetism, flow in porous media, etc., on parallel machines from tens to hundreds of thousands of cores. The appealing feature of domain decomposition methods is that, contrary to direct methods, they are naturally parallel. The authors focus on parallel linear solvers. The authors present all popular algorithms, both at the PDE level and at the discrete level in terms of matrices, along with systematic scripts for sequential implementation in a free open-source finite element package as well as some parallel scripts. Also included is a new coarse space construction (two-level method) that adapts to highly heterogeneous problems.?

Download or read book Domain Decomposition Methods in Science and Engineering XIX written by Yunqing Huang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-27 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are the proceedings of the 19th international conference on domain decomposition methods in science and engineering. Domain decomposition methods are iterative methods for solving the often very large linear or nonlinear systems of algebraic equations that arise in various problems in mathematics, computational science, engineering and industry. They are designed for massively parallel computers and take the memory hierarchy of such systems into account. This is essential for approaching peak floating point performance. There is an increasingly well-developed theory which is having a direct impact on the development and improvement of these algorithms.

Book The Theory of 2 Structures

Download or read book The Theory of 2 Structures written by A Ehrenfeucht and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1999-08-30 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of 2-structures provides a convenient framework for decomposition and transformation of mathematical systems where one or several different binary relationships hold between the objects of the system. In particular, it forms a useful framework for decomposition and transformation of graphs. The decomposition methods presented in this book correspond closely to the top-down design methods studied in computer science. The transformation methods considered here have a natural interpretation in the dynamic evolution of certain kinds of communication networks. From the mathematical point of view, the clan decomposition method presented here, also known as modular decomposition or substitution decomposition, is closely related to the decomposition by quotients in algebra. The transformation method presented here is based on labelled 2-structures over groups, the theory of which generalizes the well-studied theory of switching classes of graphs. This book is both a text and a monograph. As a monograph, the results concerning the decomposition and transformation of 2-structures are presented in a unified way. In addition, detailed notes on references are provided at the end of each chapter. These notes allow the reader to trace the origin of many notions and results, and to browse through the literature in order to extend the material presented in the book. To facilitate its use as a textbook, there are numerous examples and exercises which provide an opportunity for the reader to check his or her understanding of the discussed material. Furthermore, the text begins with preliminaries on partial orders, semigroups, groups and graphs to the extent needed for the book. Request Inspection Copy

Book Domain Decomposition Methods in Optimal Control of Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Domain Decomposition Methods in Optimal Control of Partial Differential Equations written by John E. Lagnese and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While domain decomposition methods have a long history dating back well over one hundred years, it is only during the last decade that they have become a major tool in numerical analysis of partial differential equations. This monograph emphasizes domain decomposition methods in the context of so-called virtual optimal control problems and treats optimal control problems for partial differential equations and their decompositions using an all-at-once approach.

Book Integer Programming and Related Areas

Download or read book Integer Programming and Related Areas written by C. Kastning and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integer Prograw~ing is one of the most fascinating and difficult areas in the field of Mathematical Optimization. Due to this fact notable research contributions to Integer Programming have been made in very different branches of mathematics and its applications. Since these publications are scattered over many journals, proceedings volumes, monographs, and working papers, a comprehensive bibliography of all these sources is a helpful tool even for specialists in this field. I initiated this compilation of literature in 1970 at the Institut fur ~konometrie und Operations Research, University of Bonn. Since then many collaborators have contributed to and worked on it. Among them Dipl.-Math. Claus Kastning has done the bulk of the work. With great perseverance and diligence he has gathered all the material and checked it with the original sources. The main aim was to incorporate rare and not easily accessible sources like Russian journals, preprints or unpublished papers. Without the invaluable and dedicated engagement of Claus Kastning the bibliography would never have reached this final version. For this reason he must be considered its responsible editor. As with any other collection this literature list has a subjective viewpoint and may be in some sense incomplete. We have however tried to be as complete as possible. The bibliography contains 4704 different publications by 6767 authors which were classified by 11839 descriptor entries.

Book Dirichlet dirichlet Domain Decomposition Methods For Elliptic Problems H And Hp Finite Element Discretizations

Download or read book Dirichlet dirichlet Domain Decomposition Methods For Elliptic Problems H And Hp Finite Element Discretizations written by Vadim Glebiovich Korneev and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-01-29 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domain decomposition (DD) methods provide powerful tools for constructing parallel numerical solution algorithms for large scale systems of algebraic equations arising from the discretization of partial differential equations. These methods are well-established and belong to a fast developing area. In this volume, the reader will find a brief historical overview, the basic results of the general theory of domain and space decomposition methods as well as the description and analysis of practical DD algorithms for parallel computing. It is typical to find in this volume that most of the presented DD solvers belong to the family of fast algorithms, where each component is efficient with respect to the arithmetical work. Readers will discover new analysis results for both the well-known basic DD solvers and some DD methods recently devised by the authors, e.g., for elliptic problems with varying chaotically piecewise constant orthotropism without restrictions on the finite aspect ratios. The hp finite element discretizations, in particular, by spectral elements of elliptic equations are given significant attention in current research and applications. This volume is the first to feature all components of Dirichlet-Dirichlet-type DD solvers for hp discretizations devised as numerical procedures which result in DD solvers that are almost optimal with respect to the computational work. The most important DD solvers are presented in the matrix/vector form algorithms that are convenient for practical use.
