Download or read book Algebraic Approximation A Guide to Past and Current Solutions written by Jorge Bustamante and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-15 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an exposition of several results related with direct and converse theorems in the theory of approximation by algebraic polynomials in a finite interval. In addition, some facts concerning trigonometric approximation that are necessary for motivation and comparisons are included. The selection of papers that are referenced and discussed document some trends in polynomial approximation from the 1950s to the present day.
Download or read book Approximation of Functions written by G. G. Lorentz and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2023-06-20 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an easily accessible account of the approximation of functions. It is simple and without unnecessary details, but complete enough to include the classical results of the theory. With only a few exceptions, only functions of one real variable are considered. A major theme is the degree of uniform approximation by linear sets of functions. This encompasses approximations by trigonometric polynomials, algebraic polynomials, rational functions, and polynomial operators. The chapter on approximation by operators does not assume extensive knowledge of functional analysis. Two chapters cover the important topics of widths and entropy. The last chapter covers the solution by Kolmogorov and Arnold Hilbert's 13th problem. There are notes at the end of each chapter that give information about important topics not treated in the main text. Each chapter also has a short set of challenging problems, which serve as illustrations.

Download or read book Mathematical Analysis Wavelets and Signal Processing written by Mourad Ismail and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1995 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of an international conference held in Cairo, Egypt (January 1994). Mathematics and engineering discoveries, such as wavelets, multiresolution analysis, and subband coding schemes, caused rapid advancements in signal processing, necessitating an interdisciplinary approach. Contributors to this conference demonstrated that some traditional areas of mathematical analysis - sampling theory, approximation theory, and orthogonal polynomials - have proven extremely useful in solving various signal processing problems.
Download or read book Constructive Approximation written by Ronald A. DeVore and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-11-04 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coupled with its sequel, this book gives a connected, unified exposition of Approximation Theory for functions of one real variable. It describes spaces of functions such as Sobolev, Lipschitz, Besov rearrangement-invariant function spaces and interpolation of operators. Other topics include Weierstrauss and best approximation theorems, properties of polynomials and splines. It contains history and proofs with an emphasis on principal results.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a collection of articles from the special program on algebraic and topological dynamics and a workshop on dynamical systems held at the Max-Planck Institute (Bonn, Germany). It reflects the extraordinary vitality of dynamical systems in its interaction with a broad range of mathematical subjects. Topics covered in the book include asymptotic geometric analysis, transformation groups, arithmetic dynamics, complex dynamics, symbolic dynamics, statisticalproperties of dynamical systems, and the theory of entropy and chaos. The book is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in dynamical systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of this book is the introduction and application of a new measure for smoothness offunctions. Though we have both previously published some articles in this direction, the results given here are new. Much of the work was done in the summer of 1984 in Edmonton when we consolidated earlier ideas and worked out most of the details of the text. It took another year and a half to improve and polish many of the theorems. We express our gratitude to Paul Nevai and Richard Varga for their encouragement. We thank NSERC of Canada for its valuable support. We also thank Christine Fischer and Laura Heiland for their careful typing of our manuscript. z. Ditzian V.
