Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formal language theory is a theoretical discipline in computer science that plays a foundational role in areas such as compilers design, programming language theory, information transmission, computational biology, etc. This unique volume is a succinct introduction to formal language theory suitable for an one-semester course. The main focus is on Chomsky's hierarchy of classes of languages ranging from regular languages to context-free, context-sensitive, and recursively enumerable languages. These classes are presented using both generative methods (grammars) as well as various analytical methods including finite automata, pushdown and linearly bounded automata, and Turing machine. The useful reference text contains a large number of exercises of various degree of difficulties and is intended as a textbook for an upper-level undergraduate or a graduate course in formal languages.

Download or read book Theory of Computation written by D. P. Acharjya and published by MJP Publisher. This book was released on 2019-06-12 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of computation is the scientific discipline concerned with the study of general properties of computation and studies the inherent possibilities and limitations of efficient computation that makes machines more intelligent and enables them to carry out intellectual processes. This book deals with all those concepts by developing the standard mathematical models of computational devices, and by investigating the cognitive and generative capabilities of such machines. The book emphasizes on mathematical reasoning and problem-solving techniques that penetrate computer science. Each chapter gives a clear statement of definition and thoroughly discusses the concepts, principles and theorems with illustrative and other descriptive materials.

Download or read book Applied Abstract Algebra written by Rudolf Lidl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accessible to junior and senior undergraduate students, this survey contains many examples, solved exercises, sets of problems, and parts of abstract algebra of use in many other areas of discrete mathematics. Although this is a mathematics book, the authors have made great efforts to address the needs of users employing the techniques discussed. Fully worked out computational examples are backed by more than 500 exercises throughout the 40 sections. This new edition includes a new chapter on cryptology, and an enlarged chapter on applications of groups, while an extensive chapter has been added to survey other applications not included in the first edition. The book assumes knowledge of the material covered in a course on linear algebra and, preferably, a first course in (abstract) algebra covering the basics of groups, rings, and fields.

Book Control of Discrete Event Systems

Download or read book Control of Discrete Event Systems written by Carla Seatzu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-07-27 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control of Discrete-event Systems provides a survey of the most important topics in the discrete-event systems theory with particular focus on finite-state automata, Petri nets and max-plus algebra. Coverage ranges from introductory material on the basic notions and definitions of discrete-event systems to more recent results. Special attention is given to results on supervisory control, state estimation and fault diagnosis of both centralized and distributed/decentralized systems developed in the framework of the Distributed Supervisory Control of Large Plants (DISC) project. Later parts of the text are devoted to the study of congested systems though fluidization, an over approximation allowing a much more efficient study of observation and control problems of timed Petri nets. Finally, the max-plus algebraic approach to the analysis and control of choice-free systems is also considered. Control of Discrete-event Systems provides an introduction to discrete-event systems for readers that are not familiar with this class of systems, but also provides an introduction to research problems and open issues of current interest to readers already familiar with them. Most of the material in this book has been presented during a Ph.D. school held in Cagliari, Italy, in June 2011.
