Book Handbook of Algebra

Download or read book Handbook of Algebra written by M. Hazewinkel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-05-30 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algebra, as we know it today, consists of many different ideas, concepts and results. A reasonable estimate of the number of these different items would be somewhere between 50,000 and 200,000. Many of these have been named and many more could (and perhaps should) have a name or a convenient designation. Even the nonspecialist is likely to encounter most of these, either somewhere in the literature, disguised as a definition or a theorem or to hear about them and feel the need for more information. If this happens, one should be able to find enough information in this Handbook to judge if it is worthwhile to pursue the quest. In addition to the primary information given in the Handbook, there are references to relevant articles, books or lecture notes to help the reader. An excellent index has been included which is extensive and not limited to definitions, theorems etc. The Handbook of Algebra will publish articles as they are received and thus the reader will find in this third volume articles from twelve different sections. The advantages of this scheme are two-fold: accepted articles will be published quickly and the outline of the Handbook can be allowed to evolve as the various volumes are published. A particularly important function of the Handbook is to provide professional mathematicians working in an area other than their own with sufficient information on the topic in question if and when it is needed.- Thorough and practical source for information- Provides in-depth coverage of new topics in algebra- Includes references to relevant articles, books and lecture notes

Book Commutative Algebra

    Book Details:
  • Author : Oscar Zariski
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-11
  • ISBN : 3662292440
  • Pages : 425 pages

Download or read book Commutative Algebra written by Oscar Zariski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume of our treatise on commutative algebra deals largely with three basic topics, which go beyond the more or less classical material of volume I and are on the whole of a more advanced nature and a more recent vintage. These topics are: (a) valuation theory; (b) theory of polynomial and power series rings (including generalizations to graded rings and modules); (c) local algebra. Because most of these topics have either their source or their best motivation in algebraic geom etry, the algebro-geometric connections and applications of the purely algebraic material are constantly stressed and abundantly scattered through out the exposition. Thus, this volume can be used in part as an introduc tion to some basic concepts and the arithmetic foundations of algebraic geometry. The reader who is not immediately concerned with geometric applications may omit the algebro-geometric material in a first reading (see" Instructions to the reader," page vii), but it is only fair to say that many a reader will find it more instructive to find out immediately what is the geometric motivation behind the purely algebraic material of this volume. The first 8 sections of Chapter VI (including § 5bis) deal directly with properties of places, rather than with those of the valuation associated with a place. These, therefore, are properties of valuations in which the value group of the valuation is not involved.

Book Abstract Algebra

Download or read book Abstract Algebra written by Celine Carstensen and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new approach to conveying abstract algebra, the area that studies algebraic structures, such as groups, rings, fields, modules, vector spaces, and algebras, that is essential to various scientific disciplines such as particle physics and cryptology. It provides a well written account of the theoretical foundations; also contains topics that cannot be found elsewhere, and also offers a chapter on cryptography. End of chapter problems help readers with accessing the subjects. This work is co-published with the Heldermann Verlag, and within Heldermann's Sigma Series in Mathematics.

Book Lectures on Algebra

    Book Details:
  • Author : Shreeram Shankar Abhyankar
  • Publisher : World Scientific
  • Release : 2006
  • ISBN : 9812568263
  • Pages : 758 pages

Download or read book Lectures on Algebra written by Shreeram Shankar Abhyankar and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 758 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a timely survey of much of the algebra developed during the last several centuries including its applications to algebraic geometry and its potential use in geometric modeling. The present volume makes an ideal textbook for an abstract algebra course, while the forthcoming sequel. Lectures on Algebra II, will serve as a textbook for a linear algebra course. The author's fondness for algebraic geometry shows up in both volumes, and his recent preoccupation with the applications of group theory to the calculation of Galois groups is evident in the second volume which contains more local rings and more algebraic geometry. Both books are based on the author's lectures at Purdue University over the last few years.

Book Applied Algebra Algebraic Algorithms and Error correcting Codes

Download or read book Applied Algebra Algebraic Algorithms and Error correcting Codes written by Teo Mora and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989-05-23 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1988, for the first time, the two international conferences AAECC-6 and ISSAC'88 (International Symposium on Symbolic and Algebraic Computation, see Lecture Notes in Computer Science 358) have taken place as a Joint Conference in Rome, July 4-8, 1988. The topics of the two conferences are in fact widely related to each other and the Joint Conference presented a good occasion for the two research communities to meet and share scientific experiences and results. The proceedings of the AAECC-6 are included in this volume. The main topics are: Applied Algebra, Theory and Application of Error-Correcting Codes, Cryptography, Complexity, Algebra Based Methods and Applications in Symbolic Computing and Computer Algebra, and Algebraic Methods and Applications for Advanced Information Processing. Twelve invited papers on subjects of common interest for the two conferences are divided between this volume and the succeeding Lecture Notes volume devoted to ISSACC'88. The proceedings of the 5th conference are published as Vol. 356 of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science.

Book Methods of Homological Algebra

Download or read book Methods of Homological Algebra written by Sergei I. Gelfand and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homological algebra first arose as a language for describing topological prospects of geometrical objects. As with every successful language it quickly expanded its coverage and semantics, and its contemporary applications are many and diverse. This modern approach to homological algebra, by two leading writers in the field, is based on the systematic use of the language and ideas of derived categories and derived functors. Relations with standard cohomology theory (sheaf cohomology, spectral sequences, etc.) are described. In most cases complete proofs are given. Basic concepts and results of homotopical algebra are also presented. The book addresses people who want to learn about a modern approach to homological algebra and to use it in their work.

Book Invitation To Algebra A Resource Compendium For Teachers Advanced Undergraduate Students And Graduate Students In Mathematics

Download or read book Invitation To Algebra A Resource Compendium For Teachers Advanced Undergraduate Students And Graduate Students In Mathematics written by Vlastimil Dlab and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-06-09 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a compendium style account of a comprehensive mathematical journey from Arithmetic to Algebra. It contains material that is helpful to graduate and advanced undergraduate students in mathematics, university and college professors teaching mathematics, as well as some mathematics teachers teaching in the final year of high school. A successful teacher must know more than what a particular course curriculum asks for. A number of topics that are missing in present-day textbooks, and which may be attractive to students at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level in mathematics, for example, continued fractions, arithmetic progressions of higher order, complex numbers in plane geometry, differential schemes, path semigroups and path algebras, have been carefully presented. This reflects the aim of the book to attract students to mathematics.
