Book Bullies Bigmouths and So Called Friends

Download or read book Bullies Bigmouths and So Called Friends written by Jenny Alexander and published by Hodder Children's Books. This book was released on 2015-12-17 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most books about bullying tell children how to act without addressing how they feel. But the usual advice to 'ignore it' or 'say something smart' is doomed to fail, as you can't act brave and confident if you feel stressed and helpless inside. Jenny Alexander's approach is to develop readers' psychological defences. Through an entertaining mix of exercises, quizzes and fictional scenarios, she combines common sense with simple cognitive therapy techniques, to build up children's self esteem. Her tone is humorous and upbeat, but always sensitive to the reader's feelings. This new, updated edition takes account of recent technologies such as texting, MSN and bluejacking, which are increasingly abused by bullies.

Book Preventing Bullying Through Science Policy and Practice

Download or read book Preventing Bullying Through Science Policy and Practice written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2016-09-14 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bullying has long been tolerated as a rite of passage among children and adolescents. There is an implication that individuals who are bullied must have "asked for" this type of treatment, or deserved it. Sometimes, even the child who is bullied begins to internalize this idea. For many years, there has been a general acceptance and collective shrug when it comes to a child or adolescent with greater social capital or power pushing around a child perceived as subordinate. But bullying is not developmentally appropriate; it should not be considered a normal part of the typical social grouping that occurs throughout a child's life. Although bullying behavior endures through generations, the milieu is changing. Historically, bulling has occurred at school, the physical setting in which most of childhood is centered and the primary source for peer group formation. In recent years, however, the physical setting is not the only place bullying is occurring. Technology allows for an entirely new type of digital electronic aggression, cyberbullying, which takes place through chat rooms, instant messaging, social media, and other forms of digital electronic communication. Composition of peer groups, shifting demographics, changing societal norms, and modern technology are contextual factors that must be considered to understand and effectively react to bullying in the United States. Youth are embedded in multiple contexts and each of these contexts interacts with individual characteristics of youth in ways that either exacerbate or attenuate the association between these individual characteristics and bullying perpetration or victimization. Recognizing that bullying behavior is a major public health problem that demands the concerted and coordinated time and attention of parents, educators and school administrators, health care providers, policy makers, families, and others concerned with the care of children, this report evaluates the state of the science on biological and psychosocial consequences of peer victimization and the risk and protective factors that either increase or decrease peer victimization behavior and consequences.

Book Bullied

Download or read book Bullied written by Jonathan Alexander and published by punctum books. This book was released on 2021 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens when the defining moment of your life might be a figment of your imagination? How do you understand -- and live with -- definitive feelings of having been abused when the origin of those feelings won't adhere to a singular event but are rather diffused across years of experience? In Bullied: The Story of an Abuse, Jonathan Alexander meditates on how, as a young man, he struggled with the realization that the story he'd been telling himself about being abused by a favorite uncle as a child might actually just have been a “story” -- a story he told himself and others to justify both his lifelong struggle with anxiety and to explain his attraction to other men. Story though it was, Alexander maintains that some form of abuse did occur. In writing that is at turns reflective, analytic, and hallucinatory, Alexander traces what it means to suffer homophobic abuse when such is diffused across multiple actors and locales, implicating a family, a school, a culture, and a politics -- as opposed to a singular individual who just happened to be the only openly gay man in young Alexander's life. Along the way, Alexander reflects on Jussie Smollett, drug abuse, MAGA-capped boys, sadomasochism, Catholic priests, cruising, teaching young adult fiction about rape, and a host of other oddly but intimately related topics.

Book Bullying in School

  • Author : Lisa H. Rosen
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2017-02-15
  • ISBN : 1137592982
  • Pages : 190 pages

Download or read book Bullying in School written by Lisa H. Rosen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-15 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book posits that multiple perspectives of key school staff (such as teachers, principals, school resource officers, school psychologists and counselors, nurses, and coaches) can provide a deeper understanding of bullying, which remains an immediate and pressing concern in schools today. In turn, the authors suggest how this understanding can lead to the development of more effective prevention and intervention programs. Most texts on this subject have been limited to student and teacher perspectives. By adopting a more comprehensive approach, the authors explore how to combat bullying by drawing from sorely underutilized resources.

Each chapter in this unique book begins with an introduction to an aspect of dream experience, such as archetypal symbols or 'voice of God' dreams, continues with a section of memoir to show how the author has experienced it in her own dream-life and finishes with some practical writing exercises based on the theme. Writers don't need to remember their dreams in order to use these techniques, but there are practical instructions about recalling and working with dream material for those who want to try. Dreamers can use the writing exercises to deepen and expand their experience of dreaming. 'I learnt things, my mind was opened, and it was a damn good read' - Nicola Morgan, award winning author
