Download or read book Claymore a story of Texas written by D. V. Pyle and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-06-25 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late D. V. Pyle, Texas Aggie, oil-industry executive, old soldier, did not live to complete the tales he devoted his retirement to. What remains are a novella, a short story, and four unfinished works, here published for the first time. These are the stories of Texas during Reconstruction and the drive Westwards, of cow-punchers, bounty-hunters, bad men, cavalry troopers, cunning, salty wit, violence, raw humor, and, above all, redemption. This is Texas "with the bark off," as it was in the days of mavericks, trail drives, and raids.

"The 2007 Jan Rabie/Rapport Prize was awarded to Johan Engelbrecht for his debut work, 'kaffertjie.' Engelbrecht was commended for his contribution to renewal in Afrikaans literature. Says Dr. Andries Visagie from the University of Kwazulu/Natal and a judge in this category; "Engelbrecht is responsible for one of the most original debut works in Afrikaans literature's history." Justice Edwin Cameron Constitutional Court Judge and Author of Witness to AIDS Sunday Independent: Books Page December 2006 'BEST READS OF THE YEAR' "'kaffertjie, ' by Johan Engelbrecht is a provocatively titled novelization of a most remarkable true story. The writer's childless aunt and uncle - he was a West Rand Conservative Party councilor in the 1980s - took their helper's infant into their doting care when she became permanently institutionalized. The title is eponymous, and is meant to capture the contradictions in this story of love, devotion and (fortunately brief) betrayal across the chasms of racial ignorance and stupidity. The book is already making waves in its Afrikaans appearance."

Nothing bad is going to happen ...” Ishmael Jones and his partner Penny are attending the re-opening of Tyrone’s Castle, an ancient Cornish inn originally built by smugglers. Over dinner that night, the guests entertain one another with ghost stories inspired by local legends and superstitions. But it would appear that the curse of Tyrone’s Castle has struck for real when one of their number disappears into thin air. And then another . . . Is the inn really subject to an ancient curse? Skeptical of ghost stories, Ishmael believes the key to the mystery lies in the present rather than the past. But with no bodies, no evidence and no clues to go on, how can he prove it?

Book excerpt: The author releases a gripping, compelling, exciting story peppered with pockets of humora story relevant today as it will be tomorrow about the abuse of actors and film stars from people trespassing upon their fame to fund their political dogma and terrorists operations. The terrorists lust and greed for funding their ideology drives them to murder, and the international terrorism, with their corrupt and violent demands, promotes government intervention. Laura Verona is a spin off from the book Blame, with a family living with a sick and brutal father suffering with bipolar disorder. The family makes good and achieves stardom, only to witness that all is not what it seems to be in the world of entertainment. Laura Verona is written with incidences of sadness and disbelief in her quest for stardom. This is a beautifully observed novel with humor and accepted mannerisms that will appeal to all age groups.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The miscalculations by our intelligence service in the late 50`s and early 60`s, by assuming that we would never be involved with any non-Caucasian country, because the thought was that no third world countries would ever gain enough power, growth or finances to challenge The U.S. Today, we see how wrong we were. It is understandable the secrecy of our intelligence services is very important, but some data has been withheld from the public, concerning the personnel of those departments. Women and minorities have been a vital part of our intelligence system for years. Yet, the public views agencies such as the C.I.A., F.B.I., and the Secret Service as being exclusively white males. In this novel, it shows the frustrations of a African American agent placed in a position of obtaining information of the utmost importance, but not having the authority to make decisions, some of which could have saved lives, and millions of dollars by our government obtaining information that was improper, or unreliable, do to the lack of knowledge of the culture of the people of that particular area. Had more importance been place on trying to understand the people, the culture, the ambitions and desires of the people of these third world countries, by recruiting agents who had ties, or connections with these countries, we would have been in a better position to deal with the situations that have occurred in resent years.
