Book Islam in the School of Madina

Download or read book Islam in the School of Madina written by Ahmad Al-Qalawi Ash-Shinqiti and published by . This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mufid al-'Ibad, of which this book is a translation, is a summation of all the previous commentaries on the work of Ibn 'Ashir on Ash'ari 'aqida, Maliki fiqh and Junaydi tasawwuf and is augmented not infrequently by the author's own subtle understanding of the finer aspects of the 'amal of the people of Madina. Shaykh Ahmad bin al-Bashir al-Qalawi ash-Shinqiti (1216 AH/1802 CE- 1276 AH/1853 CE), whose lineage can be traced to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, came from a family and tribe in present day Mauritania renowned for its knowledge and active implementation of the deen. Although he himself refrained from any sufic commentary on Ibn Ashir's work, he was recognised as a wali by the men of this science around him. Dr Yate (Cantab.) has translated works from Arabic, Persian, German and French, and, in collaboration with others, from Turkish. He teaches Arabic and Fiqh at the Weimar Institute, is a Founding fellow of The Muslim Faculty of Advanced Studies, and is active on the shariat board of the World Islamic Mint.

Book Between God and the Sultan

Download or read book Between God and the Sultan written by Knut S. Vikør and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2005 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contrast between religion and law has been continuous throughout Muslim history. Islamic law has always existed in a tension between these two forces: God, who gave the law, and the state--the sultan--representing society and implementing the law. This tension and dynamic have created a very particular history for the law--in how it was formulated and by whom, in its theoretical basis and its actual rules, and in how it was practiced in historical reality from the time of its formation until today. That is the main theme of this book. Knut S. Vikor introduces the development and practice of Islamic law to a wide readership: students, lawyers, and the growing number of those interested in Islamic civilization. He summarizes the main concepts of Islamic jurisprudence; discusses debates concerning the historicity of Islamic sources of dogma and the dating of early Islamic law; describes the classic practice of the law, in the formulation and elaboration of legal rules and practice in the courts; and sets out various substantive legal rules, on such vital matters as the family and economic activity.

Book Risalah

  • Author : Ibn Abi Zayd Al-Qayrawani
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2019-12-07
  • ISBN : 9781908892935
  • Pages : 376 pages

Download or read book Risalah written by Ibn Abi Zayd Al-Qayrawani and published by . This book was released on 2019-12-07 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost unique among the works of Muslim scholars, this book, which for Malikis is THE Risalah, was written for children when the author was 17 years old. The sheer pedagogical audacity of introducing children to what is in effect a complete overview of life and human society escapes most people and most Muslims today. The author commences with usul ad-deen - the roots of the deen - a survey of the vital Muslim worldview, proceeding then through purification and the acts of 'ibadah, the ordinary transactions such as marriage, divorce, buying and selling and so forth, and concluding with chapters of a general and miscellaneous nature. The book is here matched by the outstanding lucidity of the translation which reveals a book written in a narrative descriptive style rather than in a didactic scholarly tone, making it breathtakingly accessible. So significant was the book's authorship and so quickly was it recognised that its author became known as the "Young Malik" and his work became a foundational pillar of the madhhab of the School of Madinah and has endured for a millennium, in use both to teach absolute beginners as intended and as a resource for scholars. This edition presents the translation in parallel with the Arabic text without vowellisation (tashkeel). Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani (310 AH/922 CE - 386 AH/996 CE) was born in Qayrawan in Tunisia, arguably one of the most important Muslim cities after Makkah and Madinah, which was always famous for learning and in particular for its staunch adherence to the school of the people of Madinah as transmitted by Imam Malik. His life was overshadowed by the Fatimid dynasty, during which he and the other teachers of Qayrawan calmly kept alive the teaching of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah. Among his other well-known works are the massive multi-volume an-Nawadir wa'z-Ziyadat and a mukhtasar-abridgement of the Mudawwanah of which only the Kitab al-Jami', a comprehensive work containing a wide variety of topics, is extant. Aisha Bewley is the translator of a large number of classical works of Islam and Sufism, often in collaboration with Abdalhaqq Bewley, notably The Noble Qur'an - a New Rendering of Its Meanings in English; Muhammad, Messenger of Allah - the translation of Qadi 'Iyad's ash-Shifa'; the Muwatta' of Imam Malik ibn Anas; and Imam an-Nawawi's Riyad as-Salihin.

Book Al Qawanin Al Fiqhiyyah

    Book Details:
  • Author : Abu'l-Qasim Ibn Juzayy Al-Kalbi
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2021-01-15
  • ISBN : 9781908892881
  • Pages : 526 pages

Download or read book Al Qawanin Al Fiqhiyyah written by Abu'l-Qasim Ibn Juzayy Al-Kalbi and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-15 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It is the most comprehensive and useful abridgement to be found in Mālikī fiqh." (Farīd al-Anṣārī Mafhūm al-'Ālimiyyah) The works of Ibn Juzayy partake of a particular miraculous quality of the last of the Messengers of Allah, may Allah bless him and them and grant them peace: they unite concision and comprehensiveness. Comprehensively, the author presents both the range of judgments within the school of the People of Madīnah as well as the range of judgments among the madhhabs at large, but with concision in a single modest Arabic volume. He covers not only 'aqīdah and 'ibādāt but also mu'āmalāt, other matters of taṣawwuf, and yet others pertaining to history, i.e. the sīrah of the Messenger ﷺ, the khulafā' and Andalus. His main concern is to say with clarity what the dīn IS, and then to note the legitimate differences, and sometimes the illegitimate ones in order to dismiss them. To show the spectrum of valid differences is vitally important in the age of literalism that says "tell me the ṣaḥīḥ hadith so that I can act on it" or in its Mālikī version, "tell me the well-known judgment (mashhūr)." The author carefully lets the reader know the well-known judgments (mashhūr) but sets them within the spectrum of valid judgments from the luminaries among Mālik's students, such as Ibn al-Qāsim, Ashhab, Aṣbagh, Ibn Wahb and Ibn al-Mājishūn et al, who, it is well to remember, may simply be acting on what they learnt from Mālik himself. Following Ibn Juzayy's own division of his work into two parts, we here publish Volume 2 containing the chapters on mu'āmalāt and miscellaneous chapters on the sīrah, history of the khalīfahs and of Andalusia, and matters of the tongue and heart etc. Ibn Juzayy was Abu-l-Qāsim Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn 'Abdullāh ibn Yaḥyā ibn 'Abd ar-Raḥmān ibn Yūsuf ibn Sa'īd ibn Juzayy al-Kalbī. He was born on the 19th Rabī' al-Awwal in 693 AH/1294 CE. He mastered the essential sciences of the dīn, and wrote significant works on tafsīr, hadith, 'aqīdah, taṣawwuf, qirā'āt (recitations and rescensions of the Qur'ān) and uṣūl al-fiqh. He died as a shahīd in the Battle of Tareef on Monday 7th Jumāda-l-Ūlā 741 AH/30th October 1340 CE. Dr. Asadullah Yate (Cantab.) has translated works from Arabic, Persian, German and French, and, in collaboration with others, from Turkish. He teaches Arabic and Fiqh at the Weimar Institute, and is Imam al-Khateeb at the mosque of Stralsund, Germany.

Book The Influence of Translation on the Arabic Language

Download or read book The Influence of Translation on the Arabic Language written by Mohamed Siddig Abdalla and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-10-19 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the influence of translation on the Arabic language, with particular emphasis on the translation of English idioms by journalists working at Arabic satellite TV stations, using a mixed-method approach (quantitative and qualitative). It begins from a belief that the impact of broadcast media on Arabic speakers is more instant, wider and farther-reaching than that caused or triggered by any other branch of mass media, as not all features of television appear in other media. The book focuses on idioms because of the difficulties associated with translating them, and also because the literature review revealed inadequacy in understanding this intriguing part of the development of the Arabic language. In contrast to other similar titles, the book examines the possible factors causing journalists to resort to idiom literalisation, including those relating to demographic characteristics. The main significance of this book is that it has practical implications for its potential audience, both practitioners and professional peers. It provides information to enable media translators and lexicographers to become more sensitive towards the logico-semantic relationships present in idiomatic expressions, and to improve their application of idiomatic expressions in their translations. Overall, the results presented here will serve to guide media translators and lexicographers’ choice in the usage of idioms to produce better quality translations and dictionaries. This insight is important not only to translators and lexicographers, but also to language teachers and students of translation. Pedagogically, the findings of the current book will encourage translation teachers to reconsider their strategies for teaching English idioms. Students of translation and English language learners in general will also benefit from the results of this book.
