Download or read book AIRS Advanced Ontology based Information Retrieval System written by Jan Werrmann and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Obtaining the right information at the right time is one of the main challenges for modern societies. This holds especially for companies that must handle complex business processes that require case dependent information. Unfortunately, case dependent and relevant information is often widespread over different document systems. Users must interact with various applications and search for semantically related (and helpful) documents without any, or with only little, support by the disparate retrieval systems. In this work, a system called Advanced ontologybased Information Retrieval System (AIRS) is introduced that includes methods of state-of-the-art enterprise search technology and combines them with an ontology called AIRS Knowledge Base (AIRSKB). AIRS is deeply integrated with advanced information retrieval technologies to make search processes in large heterogeneous document landscapes more effective and increase the quality of search results. ...

Book excerpt: Asia Information Retrieval Symposium (AIRS) was established in 2004 by the Asian information retrieval community after the successful series of Information Retrieval with Asian Languages (IRAL) workshops held in six different locations in Asia, starting from 1996. The AIRS symposium aims to bring together international researchers and developers to exchange new ideas and the latest results in the field of information retrieval (IR). The scope of the symposium covers applications, systems, technologies and theoretical aspects of information retrieval in text, audio, image, video and multi-media data. We are very pleased to report that we saw a sharp and steady increase in the number of submissions and their qualities, compared with previous IRAL workshop series. We received 136 submissions from all over the world including Asia, North America, Europe, Australia, and even Africa, from which 32 papers (23%) were presented in oral sessions and 36 papers in poster sessions (26%). We also held a special session called “Digital Photo Albuming,” where 4 oral papers and 3 posters were presented. It was a great challenge and hard work for the program committee to select the best among the excellent papers. The high acceptance rates witness the success and stability of the AIRS series. All the papers and posters are included in this LNCS (Lecture Notes in Computer Science) proceedings volume, which is S- indexed. The technical program included two keynote talks by Prof. Walter Bender and Prof.

Book Advances in Information Retrieval

Download or read book Advances in Information Retrieval written by W. Bruce Croft and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval (CIIR) was formed in the Computer Science Department ofthe University ofMassachusetts, Amherst in 1992. The core support for the Center came from a National Science Foun- tion State/Industry/University Cooperative Research Center(S/IUCRC) grant, although there had been a sizeable information retrieval (IR) research group for over 10 years prior to that grant. Thebasic goal ofthese Centers is to combine basic research, applied research, and technology transfer. The CIIR has been successful in each of these areas, in that it has produced over 270 research papers, has been involved in many successful government and industry collaborations, and has had a significant role in high-visibility Internet sites and start-ups. As a result of these efforts, the CIIR has become known internationally as one of the leading research groups in the area of information retrieval. The CIIR focuses on research that results in more effective and efficient access and discovery in large, heterogeneous, distributed, text and multimedia databases. The scope of the work that is done in the CIIR is broad and goes significantly beyond “traditional” areas of information retrieval such as retrieval models, cross-lingual search, and automatic query expansion. The research includes both low-level systems issues such as the design of protocols and architectures for distributed search, as well as more human-centered topics such as user interface design, visualization and data mining with text, and multimedia retrieval.

Book Topic Maps based Ontology and Semantic Web

Download or read book Topic Maps based Ontology and Semantic Web written by Myongho Yi and published by VDM Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyday, we engage in the use of networked information systems and websites to search for information. Whatever information users search for, it is highly possible that it can be found somewhere in the digital world. But, oftentimes, searching for information is neither effective nor efficient. When a user searches for information, a system often returns a large number of irrelevant results. Thus, the critical issue facing the current digital world is not the lack of information, but ill-structured information and inefficient information retrieval. This study concerned the testing of user performance when searching an ontology-driven information retrieval (ONTOIR) system that shows explicit relationships among resources. The goal was to examine whether or not ontology enhances user performance in terms of recall and search time. The experiment was conducted with 40 participants to evaluate and compare the differences in user performance (recall and search time) between an ontology-driven information retrieval system and a traditional, thesaurus-driven information retrieval system. Better recall and shorter search time were found when conducting relationship-based queries in an ontology-driven information retrieval system as compared to a thesaurus-based system. The book is addressed to knowledge managers, information architects, and other information professionals.

Download or read book Advanced Topics in Information Retrieval written by Massimo Melucci and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-10 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information retrieval is the science concerned with the effective and efficient retrieval of documents starting from their semantic content. It is employed to fulfill some information need from a large number of digital documents. Given the ever-growing amount of documents available and the heterogeneous data structures used for storage, information retrieval has recently faced and tackled novel applications. In this book, Melucci and Baeza-Yates present a wide-spectrum illustration of recent research results in advanced areas related to information retrieval. Readers will find chapters on e.g. aggregated search, digital advertising, digital libraries, discovery of spam and opinions, information retrieval in context, multimedia resource discovery, quantum mechanics applied to information retrieval, scalability challenges in web search engines, and interactive information retrieval evaluation. All chapters are written by well-known researchers, are completely self-contained and comprehensive, and are complemented by an integrated bibliography and subject index. With this selection, the editors provide the most up-to-date survey of topics usually not addressed in depth in traditional (text)books on information retrieval. The presentation is intended for a wide audience of people interested in information retrieval: undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, lecturers, and industrial researchers.
