This book was released on 2018-07-02 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This experiment assessed certain issues about the usefulness of predictive information: (1) the relative time criticality of failures, (2) the subjective utility of predictive information for different parameters or sensors, and (3) the preferred form and prediction time for displaying predictive information. To address these issues, three separate tasks were administered to 22 airline pilots. As shown by the data, these pilots preferred predictive information on parameters they considered vital to the safety of the flight. These parameters were related to the checklists performed first for alert messages. These pilots also preferred to know whether a parameter was changing abnormally and the time to a certain value being reached. Furthermore, they considered this information most useful during the cruise, the climb, and the descent phases of flight. Lastly, these pilots preferred the information to predict as far ahead as possible. Trujillo, Anna C. Langley Research Center...

Download or read book Human Factors and Aerospace Safety written by Don Harris and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2001. There have been significant advances in the engineering design and production standards of the hardware and electronics in commercial aircraft. It is now uncommon for the principal (or sole) cause of an aircraft accident to be a component failure. Human error is now implicated in up to 80 per cent of all civil and military aviation accidents. The human being is now arguably the least reliable component left in the system. This basic premise forms the basis for this international journal. The journal focuses specifically on the human element in the aerospace system and its role in either causing accidents or incidents, or in promoting safety. The journal solicits contributions from both academic researchers and practitioners from industry. Human factors and safety are applied sciences and this is reflected in the tone and composition of the papers in the journal.

Download or read book Contemporary Issues in Human Factors and Aviation Safety written by Helen C. Muir and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every issue of Ashgate's Human Factors and Aerospace Safety: An International Journal publishes an invited, critical review of a key area from a widely-respected researcher. To celebrate a successful first three years of the journal and to make these papers available to a wider audience, they have been collated here into a single volume. The book is divided into three sections, with articles addressing safety issues in flight deck design, aviation operations and training, and air traffic management. These articles describe the state of current research within a practical context and present a potential future research agenda. Contemporary Issues in Human Factors and Aviation Safety will appeal to both professionals and researchers in aviation and associated industries who are interested in learning more about current issues in flight safety.

Download or read book Handbook of Research on AI and ML for Intelligent Machines and Systems written by Gupta, Brij B. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-11-27 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Research on AI and ML for Intelligent Machines and Systems offers a comprehensive exploration of the pivotal role played by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies in the development of intelligent machines. As the demand for intelligent machines continues to rise across various sectors, understanding the integration of these advanced technologies becomes paramount. While AI and ML have individually showcased their capabilities in developing robust intelligent machine systems and services, their fusion holds the key to propelling intelligent machines to a new realm of transformation. By compiling recent advancements in intelligent machines that rely on machine learning and deep learning technologies, this book serves as a vital resource for researchers, graduate students, PhD scholars, faculty members, scientists, and software developers. It offers valuable insights into the key concepts of AI and ML, covering essential security aspects, current trends, and often overlooked perspectives that are crucial for achieving comprehensive understanding. It not only explores the theoretical foundations of AI and ML but also provides guidance on applying these techniques to solve real-world problems. Unlike traditional texts, it offers flexibility through its distinctive module-based structure, allowing readers to follow their own learning paths.

Download or read book Aviation Visual Perception written by Randy Gibb and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vision is the dominant sense used by pilots and visual misperception has been identified as the primary contributing factor in numerous aviation mishaps, resulting in hundreds of fatalities and major resource loss. Despite physiological limitations for sensing and perceiving their aviation environment, pilots can often make the required visual judgments with a high degree of accuracy and precision. At the same time, however, visual illusions and misjudgments have been cited as the probable cause of numerous aviation accidents, and in spite of technological and instructional efforts to remedy some of the problems associated with visual perception in aviation, mishaps of this type continue to occur. Clearly, understanding the role of visual perception in aviation is key to improving pilot performance and reducing aviation mishaps. This book is the first dedicated to the role of visual perception in aviation, and it provides a comprehensive, single-source document encompassing all aspects of aviation visual perception. Thus, this book includes the foundations of visual and vestibular sensation and perception; how visual perceptual abilities are assessed in pilots; the pilot's perspective of visual flying; a summary of human factors research on the visual guidance of flying; examples of specific visual and vestibular illusions and misperceptions; mishap analyses from military, commercial and general aviation; and, finally, how this knowledge is being used to better understand visual perception in aviation's next generation. Aviation Visual Perception: Research, Misperception and Mishaps is intended to be used for instruction in academia, as a resource for human factors researchers, design engineers, and for instruction and training in the pilot community.
