Book Negro Employment in Land and Air Transport

Download or read book Negro Employment in Land and Air Transport written by Herbert R. Northrup and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2018-01-09 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors examine both past and current practices and policies influencing black employment in the railroad, airline, trucking, and urban transit industries. Technological unemployment, declining traffic, and discrimination by unions, carriers, and government agencies have reduced both the number and proportion of blacks in the railroad industry, which was once one of the nation's leading employers of blacks. These, same railroading mores have affected black employment in airlines and urban transit in the past but today other forces are working to improve black representation in the former and leading to a heavily black work force in the latter. In the trucking industry, the Teamsters' Union and government policy are keys to Negro employment, with the union dragging its feet in supporting an increased number of black over-the-road drivers. A final section compares the situations in the four industries and forecasts future Negro employment trends in light of the most recent employment data, occupational needs, governmental policy, and other significant factors.

Download or read book Megatrends and Air Transport written by Ruwantissa Abeyratne and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-03 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses megatrends and subsequently applies them to the air transport industry from a legal, ethical and economic perspective. Starting with a detailed discussion on what these megatrends are, the book provides an essential overview of megatrends and air transport, including analytical discussions on how megatrends could affect basic issues such as nationalism and sovereignty, market access in air transport, and commercial space transport. It also delves into the rights of the airline passenger as affected by megatrends. Further, the book analyses a broad range of topics, including: the digital transformation of air transport; technology and air transport; robotic pilots and their legal ramifications; the human-robot interface and the law with focus on the pilot; cognitive computing; and issues of empowerment and connectivity. It discusses in detail United Nations initiatives and initiatives of the International Civil Aviation Organization, considering aspects such as: the new world order; e-trends and air transport; apps that make air travel easier; and apps designed to help the aviation authorities. Further topics include artificial intelligence and air transport and related technical, ethical and economic issues, as well as a legal inquiry into manufacturer’s defects; design defects; and liability for failure to warn of defects. Questions are posed and answers provided on the effects of artificial intelligence and legal issues stemming from its use in air transport. Two major discussions follow on millennials and air transport, and on the Internet of everything as related to air transport. The conclusion ties in megatrends with air transport and offers the industry a way forward for adapting to these trends.

Book Harmonising Regulatory and Antitrust Regimes for International Air Transport

Download or read book Harmonising Regulatory and Antitrust Regimes for International Air Transport written by Jan Walulik and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harmonising Regulatory and Antitrust Regimes for International Air Transport addresses the timely and problematic issue of lack of uniformity in legal standards for international civil aviation. The book focuses on discrepancies within the regulatory and antitrust framework, comprehensively reveals the major legal limitations and conflicts, and presents possible solutions thereto. It discusses possible strategies for multilateralisation and defragmentation of air law, and for international harmonisation of airline economic regulation with fair competition standards. This discussion extends to competition between air transport law and other legal regimes as well as to specific regulatory problems related to air transport. The unique feature of the book is that it reconciles distinct perspectives on these issues presented by renowned aviation and aerospace experts who represent the world’s key air transport markets and air law academic centres. By providing unbiased solutions that could serve as a base for future international arrangements, this book will be invaluable for aviation professionals, as well as students and scholars with an interest in air law, economic regulation, antitrust studies, international relations, transportation policy and airline management.

Book The Sustainability of Air Transportation

Download or read book The Sustainability of Air Transportation written by Milan Janic and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents, for the first time, a comprehensive analysis and assessment of the sustainability of the contemporary civil air transport system, examining its three main components: airports, air traffic control, and airlines. It offers an in-depth examination and quantitative insight into the system's current and prospective structure and operations, as well as the related effects and impacts. The sustainability of the air transport system is considered along a global trajectory of growing effects and diminishing and/or stagnating impacts on society and environment under conditions of continuous growth. In doing so, the author examines the situations of users of the system (passengers and freight shippers), air transport operators (airports, air traffic control and airlines), aerospace manufacturers, local and national communities, policymakers and the general public. The book possesses the unique and distinctive feature of providing an analysis and assessment of the air transport system's sustainability through elaboration of its technical/technological, operational, economic, social, environmental and institutional performances and their causality. It is written for advanced graduate and post-graduate students, researchers, planners, stakeholders, and policymakers dealing with the various sustainability issues of the contemporary air transport system.

Book The Regulation of Air Transport

Download or read book The Regulation of Air Transport written by Barry Humphreys and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-04-17 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The regulation of modern civil aviation can be traced back to the later years of the Second World War. An intense debate about the future regulatory regime resulted in a compromise which to this day essentially dictates the structure of the global airline industry. Further progress towards ‘normalising’ the industry appears to be slowing down, and perhaps even going into reverse. Without an understanding of the development of regulation, it is not possible to understand fully the industry’s current problems and how they might be resolved. Many books have been written about the development of international air transport, covering deregulation, privatisation, the emergence of new business models among other things, but few if any have taken a broad view of the trends which have determined the industry’s current structure. The Regulation of Air Transport charts the development of aviation from the end of the Second World War to the present day, following the key trends and disruptive forces. It provides an overview of what has determined the industry’s current structure, the problems still facing the industry and the ways in which it could develop in the future. This wide-ranging study is important reading for both professionals and academics within the aviation field, as well as anyone interested in the broader development of economic regulation.

Book Air Transport and Regional Development Methodologies

Download or read book Air Transport and Regional Development Methodologies written by Anne Graham and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2020-12-27 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air Transport and Regional Development Methodologies is one of three interconnected books related to a four-year European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action established in 2015. The action, called Air Transport and Regional Development (ATARD), aimed to promote a better understanding of how the air transport–related problems of core regions and remote regions should be addressed to enhance both economic competitiveness and social cohesion in Europe. This book discusses key methodological approaches to assessing air transport and regional development, outlining their respective strengths and weaknesses. These include input- output analysis, cost benefit analysis, computable general equilibrium models, data envelopment analysis, stochastic frontier analysis, discrete choice models and game theory. Air Transport and Regional Development Methodologies aims at becoming a major reference source on the topic, drawing from experienced researchers in the field, covering the diverse experience and knowledge of the members of the COST Action. The book will be of interest to several large groups. First, it will serve as an authoritative and comprehensive reference for academics, researchers and consultants. Second, it will advise policy- makers and government organizations at European, national and regional levels. Third, it presents invaluable insights to transport companies such as airports and airline operators. Along with the other two books (Air Transport and Regional Development Policies and Air Transport and Regional Development Case Studies), it fills a much-needed gap in the literature.
