Book An Analysis of Airspeed Altitude and Acceleration Data Obtained from a Twin engine Transport Airplane Operated Over a Feeder line Route in the Rocky Mountains

Download or read book An Analysis of Airspeed Altitude and Acceleration Data Obtained from a Twin engine Transport Airplane Operated Over a Feeder line Route in the Rocky Mountains written by Martin R. Copp and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time-history data of airspeed, altitude, and acceleration obtained with the NACA VGH recorder from a twin-engine airplane operated by a regional feeder airline in the Rocky Mountains are evaluated to determine the magnitude and frequency of occurrence of gusts and gust accelerations and the operating airspeeds and altitudes. The results obtained are compared with the results previously obtained from a representative short-haul and long-haul operation.

Book Gust load and Airspeed Data from One Type of Four engine Airplane on Five Routes from 1947 to 1954

Download or read book Gust load and Airspeed Data from One Type of Four engine Airplane on Five Routes from 1947 to 1954 written by Walter G. Walker and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents the results of an analysis of approximately 100,000 hours of V-G data from one type of four-engine civil transport airplane to determine the magnitude and frequency of occurrence of the gust loads and gusts. The data were obtained during routine operations from 1947 to 1954 on five different routes. The normal accelerations for each of the five operations may be expected to exceed the value corresponding to the limit-gust-load-factor increment, on the average, twice (once positive and once negative) within the range of 5,000,000 to 22,300,000 flight miles. A derived gust velocity of 50 feet per second was exceeded twice within the range of 600,000 to 1,900,000 flight miles. The gust loads of the present operations were less than the loads experienced by other four-engine civil transports previously investigated, but the differences are not significant. The present data indicated only small differences due to seasonal effects and different operational utilization.

Book Position Errors of the Service Airspeed Installations of 10 Airplanes

Download or read book Position Errors of the Service Airspeed Installations of 10 Airplanes written by William Gracey and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "position" errors of the static systems of 10 service airspeed installations including static-pressure vents on the nose and rear section of the fuselage and pitot-static tubes mounted on the wing, the vertical tail, and the fuselage nose are presented. Tests were conducted at speeds between the stalling speed and 260 miles per hour for four flight conditions. Calibrations are analyzed to show variation of static-pressure error with position of static source, angle of attack, flap setting, and engine power.

Book Mixing Heights Wind Speeds and Potential for Urban Air Pollution Throughout the Contiguous United States

Download or read book Mixing Heights Wind Speeds and Potential for Urban Air Pollution Throughout the Contiguous United States written by George C. Holzworth and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mixing-layer height and the average wind speed within the mixing layer were calculated twice for each day of a 5-year record of upper air observations at 62 National Weather Service stations int he contiguous United States. The times of day of these calculations are morning and mid-afternoon. A rough allowance was made for effects of the urban "heat island" on the morning mixing heights. The morning and afternoon times coincide approximately with those of maximum and secondary minimum concentrations of slow-reacting pollutants in cities. These calculations illustrate the typical large diurnal variation in atmospheric dispersion. Twenty charts present seasonal and annual, and morning and afternoon mean mixing heights and wind speeds. A model of some general dispersion features over urban areas is described in which the normalized pollutant concentration averaged over a city is a function of mixing height, wind speed, and city size (distance the wind travels across the city). Frequency values of mixing height by wind speed are used with the model to calculate average normalized concentration frequencies for each weather station. Thirty charts present isopleth analyses of seasonal and annual, and morning and afternoon normalized pollutant concentrations that were exceeded 10, 25, and 50 percent of the time for specified city sizes. The occurrence of episodes during which upper limits on mixing height and wind speed were not exceeded were determined from the daily morning and afternoon values of these parameters. Isopleths of the total number of episode-days for episodes lasting at least 2 days and at least 5 days with various limiting mixing-height and wind-speed values are presented in 20 charts.

Book Static pressure Error of an Airspeed Installation on an Airplane in High speed Dives and Pull outs

Download or read book Static pressure Error of an Airspeed Installation on an Airplane in High speed Dives and Pull outs written by John A. Zalovcik and published by . This book was released on 1946 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: Tests were made in high-speed dives and pull-outs to determine, by combined radar-optical tracking equipment, the static-pressure error of an airspeed-head installation on a P-51B airplane. The installation included a pitot-static head mounted on a boom 95 percent chord ahead of the leading edge of the wing near the tip. The tests were made in dives at flight Mach numbers up to 0.75 and included pull-outs up to 4g normal acceleration. The results indicated that the static-pressure error did not vary with Mach number by more than about 1 percent of the impact pressure over the range of conditions investigated.

Book Directional Extreme Wind Speed Data for the Design of Buildings and Other Structures

Download or read book Directional Extreme Wind Speed Data for the Design of Buildings and Other Structures written by Michael J. Changery and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this report is to provide largest yearly fastest-mile wind speed data corresponding to winds blowing from each octant at 37 airport stations in the United States. Four sets of data are presented. The first set consists of largest yearly fastest-mile wind speeds at 24 stations as extracted from original records. The second set consists of largest yearly fastest-mile wind speeds at 13 stations as extracted from Local Climatological Data (LCD) summaries. The third and fourth sets consist of the data from the first and second sets reduced to a height of 10 m above ground. The report also provides information on possible differences between extreme data extracted from original records on the one hand and from LCD summaries on the other hand. Procedures for estimating extreme wind effects that take into account the directional characteristics of the extreme wind climate and of the aerodynamic behavior of the structure are briefly reviewed, and it is noted that additional research on sampling errors in the estimation of extreme wind effects appears to be warranted.
