The text also describes the organization of the host's work processing an agent; error messages, bad agent expulsion, and errors in XLISP-agents; and the simulators of errors, functions, and resources. Agent language, XLISP, TCL and other languages are also considered. This book was released on 1987 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jews of North America, based on the latest research by fifteen historians and scholars from Canada, Israel, and the United States, is the first book to focus on the ethnic totality of the American and Canadian Jewish experience. The book blends a rich array of interrelated themes into a composite whole that is central to an understanding of North American Jewish history. The emphasis on continuity of tradition in these essays counters the prevailing myth of discontinuity, which promotes the notion of the great sense of separation Jews felt from "the world we have lost." The volume also provides an interesting comparative dimension by examining the similarities and dissimilarities of the American Jewish immigrant experience in both Canada and the United States.

Book Mobile Agents and Security

Download or read book Mobile Agents and Security written by Giovanni Vigna and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-05-20 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New paradigms can popularize old technologies. A new \standalone" paradigm, the electronic desktop, popularized the personal computer. A new \connected" paradigm, the web browser, popularized the Internet. Another new paradigm, the mobile agent, may further popularize the Internet by giving people greater access to it with less eort. MobileAgentParadigm The mobile agent paradigm integrates a network of computers in a novel way designed to simplify the development of network applications. To an application developer the computers appear to form an electronic world of places occupied by agents. Each agent or place in the electronic world has the authority of an individual or an organization in the physical world. The authority can be established, for example, cryptographically. A mobile agent can travel from one place to another subject to the des- nation place’s approval. The source and destination places can be in the same computer or in di erent computers. In either case, the agentinitiates the trip by executing a \go" instruction which takes as an argument the name or address of the destination place. The next instruction in the agent’s program is executed in the destination place, rather than in the source place. Thus, in a sense, the mobile agent paradigm reduces networking to a program instruction. A mobile agent can interact programmatically with the places it visits and, if the other agents approve, with the other agents it encounters in those places.

Book Accidental Agents

  • Author : Martin Crowley
  • Publisher : Columbia University Press
  • Release : 2022-02-08
  • ISBN : 0231555334
  • Pages : 332 pages

Download or read book Accidental Agents written by Martin Crowley and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Anthropocene, the fact that human activity is enmeshed with the existence and actions of every kind of other being is inescapable. As a result, the planetary ecological crisis has brought forth an urgent need to rethink understandings of human action. One response holds that the transformations necessary to tackle today’s crises will emerge from the distinctive capacity of human beings to transcend their environment. Another school of thought calls for seeing action as composite, produced by distributed networks of human and nonhuman agents. Yet the first of these is open to charges of human exceptionalism, while the second, according to its critics, lacks effective political traction. Martin Crowley argues that a new conception of political agency is necessary to break this impasse. Engaging with thinkers such as Bruno Latour, Bernard Stiegler, and Catherine Malabou, Crowley proposes an original account of agency as both distributed and decisive. Challenging the prevailing view of agency as exclusively human, he explores how a politics that incorporates nonhuman agency can intervene in the real world, examining timely issues such as climate-related migration and digital-algorithmic politics. A major intervention into ongoing debates in posthumanism, political ecology, and political theory, Accidental Agents reshapes our understanding of political agency in and for a more-than-human world.

Book Spatial Multimedia and Virtual Reality

Download or read book Spatial Multimedia and Virtual Reality written by Antonio S. Camara and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-06-17 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intersection of two disciplines and technologies which have become mature academic research topics in the 1990s was destined to be a dynamic area for collaboration and publication. However, until now no significant book-length treatment of the meeting of GIS and Virtual Reality has been available. This volume puts that situation to rights by bringing these together to cement some common understanding and principles in a potentially highly promising area for technological collaboration and cross-fertilisation. The result is a volume which ranges in subject matter from studies of a Virtual GIS Room to Spatial Agents, and from an Environmental Multimedia System to Computer-Assisted 3D Geographic Education. All the contributors are well-known international scientists, principally from the computational side of GIS. It will be a valuable resource for any GIS researcher or professional looking to understand the leading edge of this fertile field.

Book In the World Interior of Capital

Download or read book In the World Interior of Capital written by Peter Sloterdijk and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Displaying the distinctive combination of narration and philosophy for which he is well known, this new book by Peter Sloterdijk develops a radically new account of globalization at the beginning of the twenty-first century. The author takes seriously the historical and philosophical consequences of the notion of the earth as a globe, arriving at the thesis that what is praised or decried as globalization is actually the end phase in a process that began with the first circumnavigation of the earth Ð and that one can already discern elements of a new era beyond globalization. In the end phase of globalization, the world system completed its development and, as a capitalist system, came to determine all conditions of life. Sloterdijk takes the Crystal Palace in London, the site of the first world exhibition in 1851, as the most expressive metaphor for this situation. The palace demonstrates the inevitable exclusivity of globalization as the construction of a comfort structure Ð that is, the establishment and expansion of a world interior whose boundaries are invisible, yet virtually insurmountable from without, and which is inhabited by one and a half billion winners of globalization; three times this number are left standing outside the door.

  • Pages : 183 pages

Download or read book Reactivating Elements written by Dimitris Papadopoulos and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-06 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributors to Reactivating Elements examine chemicals as they mix with soil, air, water, and fire to shape Earth's troubled ecologies today. They invoke the elements with all their ambivalences as chemical categories, material substances, social forms, forces and energies, cosmological entities, and epistemic objects. Engaging with the nonlinear historical significance of elemental thought across fields—chemistry, the biosciences, engineering, physics, science and technology studies, the environmental humanities, ecocriticism, and cultural studies—the contributors examine the relationship between chemistry and ecology, probe the logics that render wind as energy, excavate affective histories of ubiquitous substances such as plastics and radioactive elements, and chart the damage wrought by petrochemical industrialization. Throughout, the volume illuminates how elements become entangled with power and control, coloniality, racism, and extractive productivism while exploring alternative paths to environmental destruction. In so doing, it rethinks the relationship between the elements and the elemental, human and more-than-human worlds, today’s damaged ecosystems and other ecologies to come. Contributors.
