Book Agent Mediated Knowledge Management

Download or read book Agent Mediated Knowledge Management written by Ludger van Elst and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-02-12 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we present a collection of papers around the topic of Agent- Mediated Knowledge Management. Most of the papers are extended and - provedversions of work presented at the symposium on Agent-Mediated Kno- edge Management held during the AAAI Spring Symposia Series in March 2003 at Stanford University. The aim of the Agent-Mediated Knowledge Management symposium was to bring together researchers and practitioners of the ?elds of KM and agent te- nologiestodiscussthebene?ts,possibilitiesandadded-valueofcross-fertilization. Knowledge Management (KM) has been a predominant trend in bu- ness in recent years. Not only is Knowledge Management an important ?eld of applicationfor AIandrelatedtechniques, suchasCBRtechnologyforintelligent lessons-learned systems, it also provides new challenges to the AI community, like, for example, context-aware knowledge delivery. Scaling up research pro- typestoreal-worldsolutionsusuallyrequiresanapplication-drivenintegrationof several basic technologies, e.g., ontologies for knowledge sharing and reuse, c- laboration support like CSCW systems, and personalized information services. Typical characteristics to be dealt with in such an integration are: - manifold, logically and physically dispersed actors and knowledge sources, - di?erent degrees of formalization of knowledge, - di?erent kinds of (Web-based) services and (legacy) systems, - con?icts between local (individual) and global (group or organizational) goals.

Book Managing Knowledge with Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book Managing Knowledge with Artificial Intelligence written by Kevin C. Desouza and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2002-07-30 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In clear, readable language, consultant and researcher Kevin Desouza accomplishes an unlikely feat: explaining artificial intelligence to nonspecialists, in a way that experts will recognize and accept as correct and immediately applicable. Workers in knowledge management are relatively isolated from each other, businesspeople are still unconvinced that artificial intelligence has much to offer, and engineers creating the latest algorithm or device seldom consider its value for businesspeople—Desouza seeks to change all that. He maintains that knowledge will be traded like physical goods, and that businesses must leverage knowledge resources within its organizations to survive in a highly competitive marketplace. Introducing us the concepts and significance of knowledge management, he shows that incorporating artificial intelligence computer-based techniques into business settings can provide truly significant gains in productivity. This book is among the first of its kind to provide a comprehensive one-stop guide to the basics of knowledge management, plus a lucid explanation of A.I., and how to use it in almost all types of organizational settings.

Book Intelligent Decision Support Systems in Agent mediated Environments

Download or read book Intelligent Decision Support Systems in Agent mediated Environments written by Gloria E. Phillips-Wren and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2005 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research has shown that harassed decision makers, in decision support technologies for real-time and uncertain decision problems, often ignore crucial information, use inefficient strategies, and generate fewer alternatives. Examples of such problems are medical emergencies, traffic flow and military applications. Researchers are limited by a narrow understanding of the most effectual methods to support decision-making in real-time and stressful situations. Intelligent software agents offer one approach to operationalizing a decision making support system in these circumstances by providing an environment that can adapt to speed and change. Agent technology has been used to aid and automate complex problem-solving such as brokering in electronic commerce and financial services. An agent is a software package that carries out tasks for others autonomously, whether the others are human users, business processes, workflows or applications.

Book Knowledge Coordination

Download or read book Knowledge Coordination written by Flávio Soares Corrêa da Silva and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-02-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge management has become an important topic for the theory and practice of organisation management. Knowledge Coordination argues that coordination is a key factor for managing knowledge within organisations. By offering a clearcut conceptualisation of knowledge, it fills an important gap in the literature on knowledge management. Based on the authors' rational reconstruction of knowledge coordination for knowledge management, this text identifies techniques and conceptual tools to build systemic solutions to improve on corporate operational efficacy. Contrasts business strategies, and presents and discusses the tools to implement management systems based on each of the different strategies. Among these tools, the authors discuss ontological engineering, communities of practice and an original conceptual tool called Structure of Capability Providers. Covers topics including: Intelligent Agents for Knowledge Modelling Artificial Intelligence Ontologies Managing Capabilities Assessing Knowledge Coordination It will be highly popular with academic and industrial researchers who need to understand the current thinking in research of knowledge management. In addition it is aimed at senior undergraduate and postgraduate students in computer science and Information Technology and in particular researchers in knowledge engineering, artificial intelligence and agent based systems. Management and business professionals and those dealing with IT systems design and implementation will also find it useful.
