Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few recent Christian thinkers have been as widely influential as John Howard Yoder (1927-1997). Encompassing a teaching career of more than thirty years and such landmark publications as 'The Politics of Jesus', Yoder's life and thought have profoundly impacted students and colleagues from a broad range of disciplines. In the words of Stanley Hauerwas, Yoder is probably the major theologican/ethicists of this half-century in America and certainly the leading Mennonite theologian of the twentieth century. 'The Wisdom of the Cross' is the only book to provide valuable secondary essays engaging Yoder's central theological concerns, together with a biographical reflection on his life and legacy. Written by scholars both from within and outside of Yoder's Mennonite community, these essays develop the most significant aspects of Yoder's thought - from his powerful defense of Christian pacifism to his seminal analysis of the politics of Jesus to his challenging contributions to Christian social ethics, ecclesiology, and theological method. The book also includes a previously unpublished essay on moral absolutes by Yoder himself. A fitting tribute to Yoder's distinguished career, this volume will be useful to readers new to Yoder's work and to those wishing to probe more deeply into the implications of his thought.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This Is My Story But His Song" is a true testimony about a girl growing up in Alabama with a loving and caring family. Her mother introduced her to singing at church at the young age of four. Initially, Nan did not enjoy singing because during her childhood, her brothers thought it was the funniest thing to make her cry while singing solos. When they were older, the tears were reversed and the brothers cried as Nan sang like an "Angel." Her troubles started when she wanted to experience life and relationships. This story tells of the many highs and lows which Nan goes through in life as a woman struggling with promiscuity and its consequences; she's a discontented wife with many relationship mishaps. Having succumbed to human weaknesses time and time again, she was exposed. After meeting Luke, Ed and Ron she thought she had love figured out. It wasn't until she met John and her life changed for the better. God gets the glory because Nan always knew where her heart was. She realized that with all of the emptiness from a relationship with men, the only one who could ever make her feel "agape" love was God alone. Lessons her parents taught her as a child followed her through her life. As in 1 Peter, Nan believes she has suffered for Christ's sake and throughout all of her pains and shortcomings, she's able to stand tall, come out of her chrysalis with a song in her heart and emerge into the most "Beautiful, Colorful Butterfly" ever seen. Nan prays that all will be inspired and encouraged knowing that Jesus died for all of our sins and because of His stripes we are healed. Just know that Jesus loves you and He'll meet you where you are.

Book The Reception of Paul the Apostle in the Works of Slavoj i ek

Download or read book The Reception of Paul the Apostle in the Works of Slavoj i ek written by Ole Jakob Løland and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book devoted entirely to exploring Žižek's peculiar kind of Paulinism. It seeks to provide a full map of the Marxist philosopher’s interpretations of Paul and critically engage with it. As one of several radical leftists of European critical thought, Žižek embraces the legacy of an ancient apostle in fascinating ways. This work considers Žižek's philosophical and political readings of Paul through the lens of reception history, and argues that through this recent philosophical turn to Paul, notions of the historical and philosophical are reproduced and negotiated anew.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Creator, do you have a family?” said my youngest. And he answered! Thus began our healing through awareness with Mina (how we address the human person—God—who built our universe), the archangels, and many others in spirit world. Our explosive conversation over the next 18 hours revealed God, angels, humanity, why we are as we are, and our universe as never before imagined. Spirit mediums Christopher McKeon and his daughters Ayako and El shatter the paradigms and magical thinking handed down to us through history by religion, philosophy, mysticism, and science. Experience, as we did, healing of your trauma, pain, and suffering through gaining awareness of your true reality. Included are ten historical spirit persons who give short testimonies of their experiences to help explain certain aspects of our—your—life reality. You'll never feel the same, or look at the world around you the way you did, as your awareness takes flight from unawareness with new wings on new winds. Be prepared for a story of life like nothing you've ever experienced. Best of all, you'll learn how you, too, can talk to Mina, 'angels,' your spirit family and guides, and willing spirit persons to get your own answers (without having to take ours on faith) as a ground-floor participant in the nascent worldwide energy testing community! For Mina, this book is all about healing your pain and suffering by revealing our personal, and larger, human reality. You'll find it all inside. Book Between Philosophy and Theology

Download or read book Between Philosophy and Theology written by Christophe Brabant and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long past the time when philosophers from different perspectives had joined the funeral procession that declared the death of God, a renewed interest has arisen in regard to the questions of God and religion in philosophy. The turn to secularization has produced its own opposing force. Although they declared themselves from the start as not being religious, thinkers such as Derrida, Vattimo, Zizek, and Badiou have nonetheless maintained an interest in religion. This book brings some of these philosophical views together to present an overview of the philosophical scene in its dealings with religion, but also to move beyond the outsider's perspective. Reflecting on these philosophical interpretations from a fundamental theological perspective, the authors discover in what way these interpretations can challenge an understanding of today's faith. Bringing together thinkers with an established reputation - Kearney, Caputo, Ward, Desmond, Hart, Armour - along with young scholars, this book challenges a range of perspectives by putting them in a new context.
