Like those before him, he never understood the truth of our universe. After his sudden demise, the terrorizing reality of a mysterious dystopian afterlife begins crushing him as it has those prior. Men have started enslaving and killing each other to sate their greed while enigmatic creatures oppress the masses. Only a select few have shown the courage that is needed to challenge their supremacy. Through this eclipsing darkness, there is hope. But will that hope prove to be enough to save this turbulent cosmos? The revelations of advanced science, magic, human savagery, and even our gods will be showcased. Both in a new light and disturbing darkness, will the verities of Earth and Afterworld give him a greater understanding of our universe; or in turn, begin to break him as they have done to so many before?

In one afterlife, you may find that God is the size of a microbe and unaware of your existence. In another version, you work as a background character in other people’s dreams. Or you may find that God is a married couple, or that the universe is running backward, or that you are forced to live out your afterlife with annoying versions of who you could have been. With a probing imagination and deep understanding of the human condition, acclaimed neuroscientist David Eagleman offers wonderfully imagined tales that shine a brilliant light on the here and now.

Revived with no memory of any tunnels, lights, or angels, Jim wonders what--if anything--awaits us on the other side. Then a ghost shows up. Maybe. Book Alleged Nazi Collaborators in the United States after World War II

Download or read book Alleged Nazi Collaborators in the United States after World War II written by Christoph Schiessl and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book follows the story of suspected Nazi war criminals in the United States and analyzes their supposed crimes during World War II, their entry into the United States as war refugees in the 1940s and 1950s, and their prosecution in the 1970s and beyond by the U.S. government, specifically by the Office of Special Investigation (OSI). In particular, this book explains why and how such individuals entered the United States, why it took so long to locate and apprehend them, how the OSI was founded, and how the OSI has tried to bring them to justice. This study constitutes a thorough account of 150 suspects and examines how the search for them connects to larger developments in postwar U.S. history. In this latter regard, one major theme includes the role Holocaust memory played in the aforementioned developments. This account adds significantly to the historiographical debate about when and how the Holocaust found its way into American Jewish and also general American consciousness. In general, these suspected Nazi war criminals could come to the United States largely undetected during the early Cold War. In this atmosphere, they morphed from Nazi collaborators to ardent anti-Communists and, outside of some big fish, not even within the Jewish community was their role in the Holocaust much discussed. Only with the Eichmann trial in the early 1960s did interest in other Holocaust perpetrators increase, culminating in the founding of the OSI in the late 1970s. The manuscript makes use, among other documents, of declassified sources from the CIA and FBI, little used trial accounts, and hard to locate OSI records.

Download or read book Afterworld written by Lynnette Lounsbury and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2014-02-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dom is the youngest person ever to arrive in the Necropolis, the 'waiting place' between death and what comes after. And it isn't long before he catches the attention of Satarial, a cruel Nephilim from the beginning of time, who has grim plans to use Dom as entertainment in his vicious gladiatorial games. When Dom's still-living sister, Kaide, appears in the Necropolis too, Satarial has the leverage he needs, and the stage is set for the biggest shake-up the afterlife has seen in centuries. Dom's only option is to compete in the Trials and attempt to win the chance to enter the Maze. In his favour he has an enigmatic young Guide, Eva, and a Guardian, Eduardo, who may not be what he seems. But will they be enough? 'Lynnette Lounsbury has the power to raise your temperature. You feel it when she delivers you into a Delhi that is so percolating with heat and humanity that you will recall it not as a chapter in a book but a memory of having been there. You will feel it when she gives you that same certainty about her Necropolis, a realm of death that will have you sweating over the Trials and fates of her characters. There are mazes of every kind in here, as well as cruelty, nobility, Rowling-calibre imagination and some cracking, inventive ritualistic violence. You will be well-traveled by the time you have concluded Dominic and Kaide's epic journey through the AFTERWORLD. And then you will wonder how such an adventure managed to work in philosophy, theology, physics, metaphysics, the ties that bind beyond this life, addictions, devotions and some subtly lovely adolescent romance to boot. And the ending might be the most comprehensively hopeful thing you'll ever encounter.' - Chris Lynch, Michael L. Printz Honor winner

In this intimate and provocative memoir, crucial questions will finally be answered, including: What does it feel like to die? What is it like to become a spirit? Why and how do spirits communicate with the living? Is there a heaven? He remembers dying, his bones breaking, his skull dashed upon the rocks. So how is he here? And where is this place? It looks like the suburban English town where he lived as a child, before an unthinkable tragedy happened and his family moved to America. But the neighborhood around his old house is overgrown, covered in dust, and completely abandoned. What’s going on? And why is it that whenever he closes his eyes, he falls prey to vivid, agonizing memories that seem more real than the world around him? Seth begins a search for answers, hoping that he might not be alone, that this might not be the hell he fears it to be, that there might be more than just this. . . .

  • Author : Scott Alexander King
  • Publisher : Animal Dreaming Publishing

  • ISBN : 0645017973
  • Pages : 116 pages

Download or read book Afterworld written by Scott Alexander King and published by Animal Dreaming Publishing. This book was released on 2020-03-09 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Death and the soul’s journey to the afterlife are two of the most abstract conceptions we will probably ever ponder. Unlike other books by mediums that are filled with case studies, interviews, stories from clients and retellings of near-death experiences, AFTERworld was birthed solely from Scott Alexander King’s need to understand that which is essentially impossible to understand. Created from the author’s own notes, compiled over many years of listening to others speak on the subject, his own spiritual journey, personal experiences and hundreds of hours of research, AFTERworld is unique because he is not a medium. Scott is a semi-regular guy whose head was once filled with questions. After losing loved ones and having no one to turn to find out if the deceased were okay, he achieved personal peace in the answers he consequently discovered and now simply wants to share his vision of the AFTERworld with readers in the hope that his findings may help them formulate their own answers to the million-dollar question: ‘What happens when we die?’
