Starting from an historical review of the treatment of aesthetics in economic thought, Aesthetics and Economics goes through the integration of a number of recent advances in economic thinking with the main topics of aesthetics, from creativity to interpretation. The subject is systematically treated on the grounds of a restatement of the optimization analysis on non-consequentialist bases, starting from the Kantian definition of aesthetic judgement up to its contemporary developments. A specific information asymmetry characterizing the agents' behaviours arises from the aesthetic qualification of consumption, production and investment processes, thus affecting the usual equilibrium and optimization conditions, resulting in new institutional interventions in the market. `Certification' of the aesthetic nature of goods and stocks is needed and gives place to original market strategies and optimization problems.

Alan Steinweis focuses on the fields of music, theater, and the visual arts in this first major study of Nazi cultural administration, examining a complex pattern of interaction among leading Nazi figures, German cultural functionaries, ordinary artists, and consumers of culture. We are therefore looking at a domain involving and implicating feelings, affections, dispositions, sensibilities and sensuality, as well as their social role in art, tradition, ritual, and taboo. With the classic Marxist concepts of base and superstructure divided into levels, economic, ideological, and political, the aesthetic level of practice is the area that has traditionally been mostly either missing or mislocated and, especially perhaps, misrepresented for political reasons. The importance of this level is that it fuels and supports the media, or as Althusser described it the 'traffic' (or mediation) between base and superstructure, although for Althusser this was ideological traffic. Here, this is also defined as aesthetic. From this vantage point, we begin to be able to see aesthetic state apparatuses, analyse how they function, both in the past, historically (for example firstly in art history), and today, in the contemporary political context, to grasp the role that art and feelings, along with affective alienation, plays in our culture as a complete and, in fact, cyclical reciprocating system. ,

Jane Elliott identifies and analyzes this new and distinctive aesthetic phenomenon, which she calls “the microeconomic mode.” Through close readings of its narratives, tropes, and concepts, she traces the implicit theoretical and political claims conveyed by this combination of abstraction and extremity.
