In Aesop and the CEO, David Noonan has simplified the process by providing this well-researched primer of the most essential advice from the greatest business books ever written. Further, in a clever melding of modern business sense and ancient wisdom, he has used the animal-based stories of Aesop as springboards to launch these 50 lessons. Both entertaining and informative, Aesop and the CEO includes advice from well-known leaders such as Bill Gates, Sam Walton, Donald Trump, and Lee Iacocca. The short, easy-to-read vignettes cover every aspect of corporate life: negotiations, hiring and firing, mergers and acquisitions, marketing and sales, and day-to-day management.

  • Author : David Lignell
  • Publisher : iUniverse

  • Pages : 62 pages

Download or read book Aesop in a Monkey Suit written by David Lignell and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-07-02 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The modern corporation, with its procession of office cubicles pulsating with purpose, is a labyrinth of human behavior. But not all human behavior is productive. Rat studies* conducted in similar environments have resulted in aggression, drug use, and cannibalism. Of course, highly educated and professional people are not rats at least not in the biological sense. Still, these findings support the metaphor of the "rat race," one that captures not only the pursuit of profit but also the cannibalization of the human spirit. So how does one keep whole in such a setting? Through work tales passed down from those who have already been there. Aesop's Fables have provided guidance for generations, and now they have been updated for practical business application. Fifty favorites have been adapted to reflect today's world of work. The farmers, animals, and insects entwined in the short morality plays of old have been replaced by managers, workers, and consultants. The great truths are still there, but they appear in a modern context sure to prompt nods of shared understanding. Enjoy the tales of the master, slightly tweaked and twisted to reflect the ennui of a modern age. A fun read for anyone who hopes to survive and stay whole in the corporate jungle. * Calhoun, John B. Book Aesop s Fables

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Esten Keller
  • Publisher : University Press of Kentucky
  • Release :
  • ISBN : 9780813132457
  • Pages : 268 pages

Download or read book Aesop s Fables written by John Esten Keller and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1489 Johan Hurus printed the first collection of fables in Spain, Lavida del Ysopetconsusfabulas hystoriadas. Illustrated with nearly 200 woodcuts, this work quickly became the most-read book in Spain, beloved of both children and adults. Reprinted many times in the next three centuries and carried to the New World, it brought to Spanish letters a cornucopia of Aesopic fables, oriental apologues, and folktales that were borrowed by such writers as Cervantes, Lope de Vega, and especially the fabulists Iriarte and Samaniego. John Keller and Clark Keating now present the first English translation of this important literary work. The Latin and German lineage of La vida was significant, for it placed Spain in the mainstream of European fable lore. The highly fictitious life of Aesop, the misshapen Greek slave who reached the highest social level, contributed to the development of medieval romance and the picaresque novel. The book is thus important to students of comparative literature, literary history, and the development of the Spanish language. Of equal value are the woodcuts, which depict the daily life of medieval Europe and contribute to a better understanding of fifteenth-century art history, bookmaking, natural history, and the visualization of narrative. La vida del Ysopet thus constitutes one of the finest concordances of text and illustration in European literary history.

Book The Aesop s Fable Paradigm

    Book Details:
  • Author : K. Brandon Barker
  • Publisher : Indiana University Press
  • Release : 2021-12-07
  • ISBN : 0253059232
  • Pages : 259 pages

Download or read book The Aesop s Fable Paradigm written by K. Brandon Barker and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Aesop's Fable Paradigm is a collection of essays that explore the cutting-edge intersection of Folklore and Science. From moralizing fables to fantastic folktales, humans have been telling stories about animals—animals who can talk, feel, think, and make moral judgments just as we do—for a very long time. In contrast, scientific studies of the mental lives of animals have professed to be investigating the nature of animal minds slowly, cautiously, objectively, with no room for fanciful tales, fables, or myths. But recently, these folkloric and scientific traditions have merged in an unexpected and shocking way: scientists have attempted to prove that at least some animal fables are actually true. These interdisciplinary chapters examine how science has targeted the well-known Aesop's fable "The Crow and the Pitcher" as their starting point. They explore the ever-growing set of experimental studies which purport to prove that crows possess an understanding of higher-order concepts like weight, mass, and even Archimedes' insight about the physics of water displacement. The Aesop's Fable Paradigm explores how these scientific studies are doomed to accomplish little more than to mirror anthropomorphic representations of animals in human folklore and reveal that the problem of folkloric projection extends far beyond the "Aesop's Fable Paradigm" into every nook and cranny of research on animal cognition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What makes someone covet a Kelly bag? Why are Cirque Du Soleil or Grey Goose so successful despite breaking all the conventions of their categories? What does Gucci's approach to marketing have in common with Nespresso's? And why do some people pay a relative fortune for Renova toilet paper or Aesop detergent even though they hardly ever 'advertise' and seem to have none of the 'functional performance advantages' conventional marketers would seek to demonstrate? Prestige brand experts JP Kuehlwein and Wolfgang Schaefer have dedicated themselves to studying what drives the success of prestige brands. Rethinking Prestige Branding collects their insights. Uncovering the secrets of why and how some brands are created more equal than others, Rethinking Prestige Branding includes over 100 case studies from Apple and Abercrombie & Fitch to Tate Modern and Tesla. Rather than re-telling brand success stories or re-hashing long-standing marketing principles, it takes readers on a colourful journey behind the scenes of today's marketing pros. This book will fascinate marketing professional just as much as those who are simply curious as to how premium brands tick.
