Book Aerospace Polymeric Materials

Download or read book Aerospace Polymeric Materials written by Inamuddin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-09-21 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses polymeric and composite materials for aerospace industries and discusses some general qualities of aviation materials, e.g., strength, density, malleability, ductility, elasticity, toughness, brittleness, fusibility, conductivity, and thermal expansion. Metals and alloys have so far been best able to utilize their qualities almost to the maximum. The latest advancements in polymers and composites have opened up a new area of conjecture about how to modify airplanes and shuttles to be more polymeric and less metallic. Polymeric materials have been the focus of exploration due to their high strength-to-weight ratio, low cost, and a greater degree of freedom in strengthening the needed qualities. Strength, density, malleability, ductility, elasticity, toughness, brittleness, fusibility, conductivity, and thermal expansion are some of the general qualities of aviation materials that are taken into account. Aerospace Polymeric Materials discusses a wide range of methods with an outline of polymeric and composite materials for aerospace applications. Among the range of topics discussed are aerogel properties; polymeric welding; polymeric reinforcement, their properties, and manufacturing; conducting polymer composites; electroactive polymeric composites; and polymer nanocomposite dielectrics. In addition, a summary of self-healing materials is also presented, including their significance, manufacturing methods, properties, and applications. Audience This is a useful guide for engineers, materials scientists, researchers, and postgraduate students from industry, academia, and laboratories that are linked to polymeric composites.

Book High Performance Materials in Aerospace

Download or read book High Performance Materials in Aerospace written by Harvey M. Flower and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerospace presents an extremely challenging environment for structural materials and the development of new, or improved, materials: processes for material and for component production are the subject of continuous research activity. It is in the nature of high performance materials that the steps of material and of component production should not be considered in isolation from one another. Indeed, in some cases, the very process of material production may also incorporate part or all of the component production itself and, at the very least, will influence the choice of material/component production method to be employed. How ever, the developments currently taking place are to be discovered largely within the confines of specialist conferences or books each dedicated to perhaps a single element of the overall process. In this book contributors, experts drawn from both academia and the aerospace industry, have joined together to combine their individual knowledge to examine high performance aerospace materials in terms of their production, structure, properties and applications. The central interrelationships between the development of structure through the production route and between structure and the properties exhibited in the final component are considered. It is hoped that the book will be of interest to students of aeronautical engineering and of materials science, together with those working within the aerospace industry. Harvey M. Book Fluid Effects in Polymers and Polymeric Composites

Download or read book Fluid Effects in Polymers and Polymeric Composites written by Y. Jack Weitsman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-18 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid Effects in Polymers and Polymeric Composites, written by the late Dr. Y. Jack Weitsman, addresses the wide range of parameters that affect the interaction of fluids with polymers and polymeric composites. The book aims at broadening the scope of available data, mostly limited up to this time to weight-gain recordings of fluid ingress into polymers and composites, to the practical circumstances of fluctuating exposure. Various forms of experimental data are given, in conjunction with theoretical models derived from basic scientific principles, and correlated with severity of exposure conditions and interpreted by means of rationally based theoretical models. The practical implications of the effects of fluids are discussed. The issue of fluid effects on polymers and polymeric composites is of concern to engineers and scientists active in aerospace and naval structures, as an increasing portion of these structures are made of polymeric composites and employ polymeric adhesives as a joining device. While the book is intended for this audience, it will also interest researchers and graduate students interested in the mechanics and materials aspects of this matter.
