Book Aerodynamics of Tactical Weapons to Mach Number 8 and Angle of Attack 180 Deg Part 1 Theory and Application

Download or read book Aerodynamics of Tactical Weapons to Mach Number 8 and Angle of Attack 180 Deg Part 1 Theory and Application written by Leroy Devan and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An existing methodology for predicting static and aerodynamic coefficients was extended to higher angles of attack and Mach numbers. Improvements in existing computational methods were also made. The theory is applicable to bodies of revolution with one or two, piecewise similar-cross section lifting surfaces (2 or 4 number). The original methodology was applicable to a Mach number of 3 and to an angle of attack of 15 deg. The capability for dynamic derivative prediction for small angles was extended and improved to Mach numbers of the order 6, above which real gas effects and much stronger viscous coupling are important. Static aerodynamic prediction capability at small angles of attack was extended and improved to M sub infinity = 6, and empirical code developed for the Army by G. Aiello of the Martin-Marietta Corp. (Orlando) was adapted for prediction of static aerodynamics at higher angles of attack for a limited configurational envelope. The Martin-Marietta code predicts body-tail aerodynamics for arbitrary roll orientation and angles of attack to 45 deg for 0.8

Book Aerodynamics of Tactical Weapons to Mach Number 8 and Angle of Attack of 180 Deg

Download or read book Aerodynamics of Tactical Weapons to Mach Number 8 and Angle of Attack of 180 Deg written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NSWC Aeroprediction Code has been extensively applied to the prediction of static and dynamic aerodynamics of missile configurations. Major extensions have recently been made to the code to extend its capability to 0 less than or equal to M sub infinity less than or equal to 8 and 0 deg less than equal to alpha less than equal to 180 deg and also to improve the transonic inviscid body alone static aerodynamic predictions and the dynamic derivative predictions for all Mach numbers. The theoretical basis for the code extensions are outlined and previous methods are briefly reviewed. The code is evaluated through comparisons of computational examples with experiment for body alone, body-tail and body-tail-canard configurations. The speed and accuracy of the code are ideal for use in preliminary design. Examples of design applications to specific tactical weapon configurations as presented.

Book State of the art Engineering Aeroprediction Methods with Emphasis on New Semiempirical Techniques for Predicting Nonlinear Aerodynamics on Complete Missile Configurations

Download or read book State of the art Engineering Aeroprediction Methods with Emphasis on New Semiempirical Techniques for Predicting Nonlinear Aerodynamics on Complete Missile Configurations written by Frankie Gale Moore and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report discusses the pros and cons of numerical, semiempirical and empirical aeroprediction codes and lists many state-of-the-art codes in use today. It then summarizes many of the more popular approximate analytical methods used in State-of-the-Art (SOTA) semiempirical aeroprediction codes. It also summarizes some recent new nonlinear semiempirical methods that allow more accurate calculation of static aerodynamics on complete missile configurations to higher angles of attack. Results of static aerodynamic calculations on complete missile configurations compared to wind tunnel data are shown for several configurations at various flight conditions. Calculations show the new nonlinear methods being far superior to some of the former linear technology when used at angles of attack greater than about 15 degrees. Book Improved Aeroprediction Code

Download or read book Improved Aeroprediction Code written by Frankie Gale Moore and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New and improved version of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division aeroprediction code (AP93) has been developed. The new code contains new technology that allows planar aerodynamics of axisymmetric solid rocket-type weapons to be computed with engineering accurately over the entire Mach number range and for angles of attack to 30 deg. New technology developed and included in the AP93 includes; A new engineering method to compute aeroheating information at a high Mach number; Extension of the second-order shock-expansion theory to include real-gas effects, including several new pressure prediction techniques; An improved body-alone nonlinear normal-force method; New methods for computing nonlinear aerodynamics of wing alone, wing body, and body wing due to angle of attack, and wing body due to control deflection; and a new base-dmg database and improved empirical base-drag estimation technique. ... Aeroprediction code (AP93), Planar aerodynamics, High mach number.

Book Approximate Methods for Weapon Aerodynamics

Download or read book Approximate Methods for Weapon Aerodynamics written by Frankie Gale Moore and published by AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics). This book was released on 2000 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moore brings 30 years of experience in weapons development to help bridge the gap between the academic textbook and practical application. The book reviews all approaches to calculate aerodynamics, allowing engineers to see the pros and cons of each approach, setting the stage for a semiempirical approach. It contains many approximate aerodynamic methods, bringing together in a single text both linearized and nonlinear aerodynamic methods. Practicing engineers will value the books emphasis on understanding the physics involved, understanding the assumptions made to get to the approximate approaches, and showing final equations used in the solution process.
