Download or read book Aerodynamic Loads and Separation Trajectories for Several Stores with the F 15 Aircraft at Mach Numbers from 0 6 to 1 3 written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind tunnel test was conducted at Mach numbers from 0.6 to 1.3 with 0.05-scale models of six stores and the F-15 aircraft. Extensive aerodynamic loads measurements were obtained for these stores in the aircraft flow field from the carriage position to 20 ft below the inboard pylon surfaces, with the majority of the data taken near the right-wing pylon. Aircraft angle of attack was varied from 0 to 10 deg. Separation trajectories were obtained for three of the stores at simulated altitudes from 5,000 to 18,000 ft at an aircraft angle of 0.5 deg. Free-stream characteristics for all stores were obtained with the aircraft model removed from the tunnel.

Book Flow field Characteristics and Aerodynamic Loads on External Stores Near the Fuselage and Wing pylon Positions of a Swept wing fuselage Model at Mach Numbers of 0 4 and 0 7

Download or read book Flow field Characteristics and Aerodynamic Loads on External Stores Near the Fuselage and Wing pylon Positions of a Swept wing fuselage Model at Mach Numbers of 0 4 and 0 7 written by R. H. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental data were obtained to aid in the prediction of aerodynamic loads and separation-trajectory characteristics on stores under the influence of an aircraft flow field. Four types of data were obtained in the vicinity of a generalized aircraft model: (1) flow field surveys, using a 40-deg cone probe, to determine the local velocity field, (2) force and moment data on four store models, (3) pressure distribution data on an ogive-cylinder model, and (4) captive-trajectory store separation data on one store model. The generalized aircraft model consisted of a swept-wing/fuselage combination with rectangular, flow-through engine ducts.

Book Evaluation of the Aerodynamic Interference of the Tunnel 4T Captive Trajectory System on the Separation Characteristics of the BLU 27 Store

Download or read book Evaluation of the Aerodynamic Interference of the Tunnel 4T Captive Trajectory System on the Separation Characteristics of the BLU 27 Store written by Wallace Luchuk and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the results of an experimental program to evaluate the effect of the 4T Captive Trajectory System on the separation characteristics of typical stores. The models selected as being generally representative of external stores were the modified BLU-27B/B configuration with and without fins. The aircraft model selected for this test was the F-111. To assess the aerodynamic interference of the Captive Trajectory System on the store and its trajectory, four sting lengths were used to position the store model at varying distances from the support system. Data were obtained at Mach numbers of 0.4, 0.8, 0.9, 1.1, and 1.2. Captive trajectories simulating store separation from the aircraft model were obtained; forces on the store were measured while the store was moved vertically away from the marriage position; and force data on the store were obtained as it was yawed in a location as far removed as possible from the aircraft model. It was concluded that the Captive Trajectory System has little or no effect on the store loads and trajectory development. (Author).

Book Unsteady Aerodynamic Effects on External Store Separation Characteristics

Download or read book Unsteady Aerodynamic Effects on External Store Separation Characteristics written by Stanford University. Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A preliminary study is reported on certain aspects of the problem of external stores separating from a carrier vehicle. A search of the available literature resulted in the identification of some 23 documents which were strongly relevant to the subject of investigation. These are listed, and summaries are given on several of the most important. Two-dimensional idealizations of store configurations were numerically analyzed to determine the initial behavior of pitch angle and vertical separation following release. Based on quasi-steady airloads, important characteristics of their trajectories are given for 17 combinations of system parameters. Trajectory calculations based upon unsteady airloads were made using three sets of parameters chosen for high, nominal, and low pitch oscillation frequencies (as compared with the results from the quasi-steady calculations). These unsteady airload results agreed fairly well in translational history with quasi-steady counterparts, but increasing frequency led to increased disagreement between the predictions of pitch behavior.

Book Validation and Expansion of the Flow Angularity Technique for Predicting Store Separation Trajectories

Download or read book Validation and Expansion of the Flow Angularity Technique for Predicting Store Separation Trajectories written by Stephen C. Korn and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the external flow fields caused by various weapon configurations on the wing of an F-4 aircraft, verifies assumptions made in the flow angularity technique, and presents the documentation for the 'Flow Angularity Computer Program' with example trajectories. The flow angularity program is presently capable of calculating the trajectories of stores off the inboard and outboard wing stations in either single, triple ejector rack, or multiple ejector rack configurations. The assumptions made in the flow angularity technique have been analyzed and generally validated as good approximations. (Author).

Book In Flight Measurement of Aerodynamic Loads on Captive Stores Description of the Measurement Equipment and Comparison of Results with Data from Other Sources

Download or read book In Flight Measurement of Aerodynamic Loads on Captive Stores Description of the Measurement Equipment and Comparison of Results with Data from Other Sources written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For store separation analysis the availability of reliable aerodynamic interference data is of prime importance. Presently a number of sources is used to obtain these data, such as wind tunnel measurements, panel method calculations and calculations based on measured store separation trajectories. To gain more insight into the limitations of the various sources as well as to obtain a tool which can be used for the certification of new stores for existing aircraft an aerodynamic load measuring store was developed. It consists of a support structure to be mounted from 14 or 30 inch bomb racks, a load measuring balance, and a shape representing the store to be analyzed. The shape is replaceable. A flight test program has been carried out in August 1977 with a store resembling a BLU 1/B, on an NF-5A aircraft in various configurations. The results are compared with wind tunnel data from various sources, panel method calculation results and data obtained from in-flight separation tests. It is shown that in-flight measurement of aerodynamic loads will allow a reduction in the number of flight tests required to demonstrate safe separation.

Book Store Separation Testing Techniques at the Arnold Engineering Development Center

Download or read book Store Separation Testing Techniques at the Arnold Engineering Development Center written by J. P. Billingsley and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted on a four-finned, ogive-cylinder store model which was mounted on the von Karman Gas Dynamics Facility (VKF) Captive Trajectory System (CTS) in the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) Supersonic Wind Tunnel A. The purpose of these tests was to provide information necessary for an independent check on the VKF CTS trajectory mode results. Grid and trajectory data were obtained for the store, both in the free stream and in the interference flow field of a generalized parent-aircraft model. The Mach number was 1.63, with Reynolds numbers per foot of 5.0 and 3.8 million. Grid data from these tests were used in conjunction with the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory (AFFDL) Six-Degree-of-Freedom Computer Program (SDFCP) to simulate the trajectories obtained by the VKF CTS. These SDFCP simulations compared favorably with the CTS trajectories, providing an important compared favorably with the CTS trajectories, providing an important independent verification of the VKF CTS trajectory mode results. This report documents this validation effort and provides a general description of the VKF CTS as well as guidelines for potential users of this system. (Author).
