Download or read book Adventures of the Spirit written by Clark M. Williamson and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 1997 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an introduction to worship from the standpoint of process theology. It helps worship planners develop services of worship that are characterized by an intense vision of community with God, where depth of feeling surmounts verbal language and touch the believer in the most life-shaping ways. Process conceptuality allows the church to move toward genuinely contemporary worship while drawing from the past, explaining how worship is understood in this Christian tradition and moving to practical approaches such as conceiving the service, preparing the prayers, the liturgy, and the sermon; the sacraments, the wedding and the funeral, and the arts' role in worship. The ultimate goal is not only to show how process theology can inform each aspect of the service of worship, but to help the Christian community deepen its apprehension of God through services of worship.

Book excerpt: Imagination. It is a word that conjures up so much and can cover so many emotions. In this collection of nine unique stories and a poem, you will cross centuries, hang in suspense, chuckle and perhaps even laugh, and wonder did the character imagine that or not. Dari LaRoche starts this anthology with a poem that explores what sparks the imagination as it moves between conscious thought and the sublime, reflecting the beauty that surrounds us. In Metro Takes a Road Trip, Susie Slanina returns to the adventures of a dog named Metro discovering new places and talents. In The Watching Game, Lisa de Nikolits crafts a story that explores invisible friends, suspense, and the power of suggestion. Diana McCollum’s story, Son-ja’s Journey, explores the story of a lost child who wanders into a Native American tribe’s camp and is raised as one of their own. Pamela Cowan’s story, Mars, moves away from earth to outer space, in her futuristic tale with a twist about a young man coming of age. Back on earth, Mary Vine provides a story of romance, suspense, and humor in Grandma Harper’s Imagination. Maggie Lynch pits fantasy against reality in Sky Painter, as a young girl develops unusual talents. Another Life, by Paty Jager, provides a conundrum for the reader to unravel whether a battered wife and a dead husband is a tale of delirium or truth. In Project I.M.A.G.I.N.E. Anna Brentwood and Colton Long pen a cautionary tale of artificial intelligence that begins in the 1980s. Kimila Kay closes out the anthology with Rattlesnake Ravine, a suspense novella that plays with imagination versus truth and the consequences of having to choose only one side.

Download or read book English Literature illustrated written by WILLIAM J. LONG and published by Full Moon Publications. This book was released on 2015-12-06 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Joseph Long (1866–1952) was an American writer, naturalist and minister. He lived and worked in Stamford, Connecticut as a minister of the First Congregationalist Church. As a naturalist, he would leave Stamford every March, often with his two daughters Lois Long and Cesca, son, Brian to travel to "the wilderness" of Maine. There they would stay until the first snows of October, although sometimes he would stay all winter. In the 1920s, he began spending his summers in Nova Scotia, claiming "the wilderness is getting too crowded". He wrote of these wilderness experiences in the books Ways of Wood Folk, Wilderness Ways, Wood-folk Comedies, Northern Trails, Wood Folk at School, and many others. His earlier books were illustrated by Charles Copeland; two later ones were illustrated by Charles Livingston Bull. Long believed that the best way to experience the wild was to plant yourself and sit for hours on end to let the wild "come to you; and they will!"
Download or read book Imagine Connor written by Gordon N. Brennan and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2006-07-21 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A talking, eating, burping clothes hamper? A rubber bathmat that turns into a small city complete with houses and people living in them? A kitchen walk-in pantry that is used as a time machine? These are just a few of the many true stories that come from a real life five-year-old boy's imagination. "Imagine Connor" explores the adventures of Connor as he tells us about his non video, non toy journeys in and around his home and outside his house. Find out how an ordinary Kleenex box becomes a fully functional computer, or how during an afternoon snowfall the snowflakes change into Popsicles. Connor's dad has been listening for years about how his son's imagination has helped him play in a world that is beyond reality. "I've never told him what to think about when he is playing, it all comes to him naturally," says Connor's Dad. Connor will ask the reader to participate in his quest for new stories also. Children will be able to see the transition from real life to Connor's imagination worlds through the illustrations in the book, blended with actual live action photos. Connor's dad, the book's author, states,"in today's world we are bombarded with images from television, video games, hand-held devices, even electronic toys that are suggesting to our children how to play. This does not mean I am degrading these 21st Century techno marvels; they can be very helpful in the learning process for many children. Connor too has been exposed to the many manufactured toys and games that are available abd he has found them engaging enough to learn many things through interacting with them. With all that in mind, this is why I wanted to write this book to help kids use their imaginations again without any gadgets. When Connor began explaining his different stories to me and when it started becoming a large amount of adventures he was telling me, unsolicited by me, that's when I knew they needed to be written down and shared with other children. I suppose in a way it is the old story of the child receiving a brand new toy in a big box and playing with the box instead of the expensive toy.
