Book Hormones Lipoproteins and Atherosclerosis

Download or read book Hormones Lipoproteins and Atherosclerosis written by M. Palkovič and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hormones, Lipoproteins and Atherosclerosis, Volume 35, emerged from the international symposium on ""Hormones, Lipoproteins and Atherosclerosis"" held in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. The symposium was devoted to the problems of hormonal effects on lipoprotein metabolism and atherosclerosis, and was also concerned with problems of composition, structure, synthesis, and degradation of liporoteins, as well as with genetical and clinical aspects. The participants of the symposium have contributed to this volume not only by presenting new data but also new ideas and stimulating new trends in the research and therapy of metabolic derangements of lipoproteins and the resulting pathological conditions. The 51 contributions are organized into five parts. Part I includes papers on the metabolism of lipoproteins. Part II presents studies on hormones and lipoproteins. Part III is devoted to atherosclerosis and lipoproteins. Part IV takes up the clinical aspects of hyperlipoproteinemias. Part V on methods contains two studies—the first on the isolation of human plasma high density lipoproteins; the second on the separation of subfractions of the serum triacylglycerols.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lipoproteins have key roles in human growth and development, along with promoting, preventing, and/or participating in the pathogenesis or in the treatment of various diseases. This book presents a systematic and comprehensive review about the structure and metabolism of lipoproteins, particularly highlighting the crucial role of those molecules in the body and considering the interest of some lipids in healthy and diseased conditions. This book aims to provide integrative approach to understand the lipoprotein metabolism. Distinguished international experts contributed six chapters about the genetic variations, plasma lipoprotein components, and molecular relationship of lipoproteins with cognition and obesity.

Book Cholesterol Transport Systems and Their Relation to Atherosclerosis

Download or read book Cholesterol Transport Systems and Their Relation to Atherosclerosis written by Armin Steinmetz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of clinical and epidemiological studies have shown that disorders of lipoprotein metabolism constitute one of the most important risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. This volume examines the state of the art of lipoprotein subclass metabolism and its relation to these diseases. The authors also report on new developments concerning the role of lipoprotein recptors, macrophages and apolipoprotein E polymorphism in cholesterol homeostasis. The combination of general outline form and very specific aspects of cholesterol transport will interest those in other disciplines following developments in the field, as well as those directly involved in lipoprotein research.

Book Lipoproteins in Health and Disease

Download or read book Lipoproteins in Health and Disease written by John Betteridge and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-04-02 with total page 1328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive work deals with the major health problem of high lipid levels in blood, a cause of serious heart and vascular disease. Formerly the province only of the chemical pathologist, cardiologists and general physicians are now offering treatment as new 'lipid-lowering' drugs become available. The area is also of considerable interest to public health physicians as changes in lifestyle (such as dietary and smoking habits) have significant effects on lipid levels. A prestigious team of contributors covers all aspects of the topic, from molecular biology to practical dietary management to help reduce lipid levels.
