Book Advances in Cerebral Angiography

Download or read book Advances in Cerebral Angiography written by G. Salamon and published by Springer. This book was released on 1976-02 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A few years ago, at the Symposium of Neuroradiology in Rome, ZIEDSES DES PLANTES made a decisive contribution to cerebral angiography with photographic subtraction. From this time on, technical advances, anatomical findings, therapeutic tests such as embolization, development of stereo taxy, and computerized axial tomography have opened a wide field for cerebral angiography. These important findings became the subject of a scientific meeting. The quality of the presentations and the results of each re port made this a most interesting symposium. I am very grateful to all those who contributed to make it a success. G. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic principles of the management of cerebral arteriovenous mal formations were established during the first phase of the neurological attack on these problems between 1930 and 1960. The leaders were CUSHING, BAILEY and DANDY, but principally OUVECRONA, and in Ger many TONNIS. The experience gained showed that complete excision of the arteriovenous angioma was the only certain cure, and therefore was the procedure of choice. In the present second phase important advances should be made and indeed are occurring. New diagnostic techniques such as total angio graphy, selective and superselective angiography, intraoperative and fluorescein angiography, and the EMI-scanner have been developed. The pathophysiological aspects have been further investigated by indirect and direct measurement of local and general cerebral blood flow. Parallel with these developments operative technique itself has been improved and modified by new methods. A more aggressive attitude has been stimulated towards those angiomas, which had to be regarded as inoperable only a few years ago. Among these many im provements and technical advances include microsurgical techniques, combined stereotactic and microsurgical procedures, artificial emboliza tion of different kinds and the cryosurgical management. Multiple variables such as the age of the patient, the type, localization, and size of the angioma, its clinical picture and the possible complica tions, such as hemorrhage have been analysed and are understood better. These factors influence the indication for, and choice of, the appropriate procedure to a great extent.

  • Author : Gianni Boris Bradac
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media

  • ISBN : 3642156789
  • Pages : 316 pages

Download or read book Cerebral Angiography written by Gianni Boris Bradac and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-26 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cerebral Angiography is a comprehensive and well-illustrated guide to the diagnostic use of cerebral angiography. The first part of the book depicts in detail the normal appearance of the cerebral vessels on angiographic studies. Sound knowledge of this normal vascular anatomy and clinical function is vital for correct interpretation of the clinical significance of the pathological processes addressed in the second part of the book. The latter include vascular abnormalities, including angiomas, fistulas, and aneurysms; atherosclerotic and non-atherosclerotic stenosis and occlusion of the cerebral vessels; and venous thrombosis. In each case, both typical and atypical appearances are presented. While the emphasis throughout is on the diagnostic value of cerebral angiography, a number of examples of endovascular treatment are also included to highlight the evolving possibilities of therapy and the role of cerebral angiography in treatment selection.

Book Cerebrospinal Vascular Diseases

Download or read book Cerebrospinal Vascular Diseases written by Norihiko Tamaki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in technology have opened up new possibilities in the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrospinal vascular diseases. It is now possible to use magnetic resonance imaging to map brain function and metabolism as an aid to diagnosis. Novel applications of magnetic resonance angiography allow three-dimensional imaging, and the magnetization transfer contrast technique gives us a new window on cerebral vascular function. This volume presents work in all these fields as well as previewing the techniques of endovascular surgery for cerebrospinal vascular diseases. These include modern stereotactic radiosurgery for arteriovenous malformations and for angiographically occult vascular malformations of the brain. This book presents an overview of the latest applications of technology to this rapidly developing and challenging field.

Download or read book Vascular Imaging of the Central Nervous System written by Joana Ramalho and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-03-31 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book-length reference to thoroughly describe diagnostic and therapeutic advances in the development of vascular radiology over the last decade The last ten years has seen vascular imaging of the central nervous system (CNS) evolve from fairly crude, invasive procedures to more advanced imaging methods that are safer, faster, and more precise—with computed tomographic (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging methods playing a special role in these advances. Vascular Imaging of the Central Nervous System is the first full-length reference text that shows radiologists—especially neuroradiologists—how to optimize the use of the many techniques available in order to increase the sensitivity and specificity of vascular imaging, thereby improving the diagnosis and treatment of individual patients.
