This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patient safety in health systems has become more and more important as a theme in health research, and so it is not surprising to see a growing interest in applying systems thinking to healthcare. However there is a difficulty – health systems are very complex and constantly adapting to respond to core drivers and fit needs. How do you apply systems thinking in this situation, and what methods are available? National health authorities, international donors and research practitioners need to know the “how-to” of conducting health systems research from a systems thinking perspective. This book will fill this gap and provide a range of tools that give clear guidance of ways to carry out systems thinking in health. These methodologies include: System dynamics and causal loops Network analysis Outcome mapping Soft systems methodology Written by an international team of experts in health research, this handbook will be essential reading for those working in or researching public health, health policy, health systems, global health, service improvement and innovation in practice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Further Developments in Operational Research is a collection of articles on fields such as behavioral science, corporate planning, and artificial intelligence. Subjects in forecasting, risk analysis, and network analysis are likewise reviewed. The book discusses statistical forecasting in detail. Graphs, networks, and uses of such networks are provided. A chapter of the book covers the creation and implementation of expert systems. Risk engineering is an integrated approach to all aspects of risk analysis. It identifies and quantifies uncertainty and advances methods in order to modify associated risks through effective and efficient decisions. A review of the models used in forecasting is then provided. This section includes concepts such as hypergraphs, network flows, and tools of graph theory. The historical background and developments in artificial intelligence are also featured in the book. Statistical forecasting is presented completely. The book can serve as a useful tool for programmers, forecasters, statisticians, psychologists, students, and researchers.

Book Applied General Systems Research

Download or read book Applied General Systems Research written by G. Klir and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 979 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of a selection of papers presented at the International Conference on Applied General Systems Research: Recent Developments and Trends which was held on the campus of the State University of New York at Binghamton in August 15-19, 1977, under the sponsorship of the Special Panel on Systems Science of the NATO Scientific Affairs Division. General systems research is a fairly new field which has been developing in the course of the last two or three decades. In my op~n10n, it can be best described as a movement which involves the study of all structural and context independent aspects of problem solving. As such, it is cross-disciplinary in nature and, in this sense, it might seem similar to mathematics. There is a consid erable difference, however, between the two. While pure mathe matics is basically oriented to the development of various axiomatic theories, regardless of whether or not they have any real world meaning, applied mathematics explores the applicability of some of these theories as potentially useful methodological tools in various problem areas. General systems research, in contrast with applied mathematics, is problem oriented rather than tool oriented. As such, it tries to develop genuine methods for solving systems problems, i. e. , structural type and context in dependent problems. The term "genuine method" is used here to refer to a method which adjusts to the problem rather than re quiring that the problem be adjusted to make the method applicable.

Book Developments in Operational Research

Download or read book Developments in Operational Research written by R. W. Eglese and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Operational Research reviews developments in operational research (OR) and includes numerical examples to illustrate techniques and applications. Topics covered include some of the most widely used OR ""techniques"", such as mathematical programming and simulation, together with the contribution of OR methodology to specific application areas, such as capital investment appraisal and purchasing. This book is comprised of seven chapters and begins with an introduction to the state of mathematical programming systems, along with the relevance of other optimization algorithms to OR and techniques for handling certain types of nonlinearity. The discussion then turns to network optimization techniques and their applications for the New Zealand Justice Department as well as for the wheat and dairy industries. The following chapters focus on computer simulation as applied in OR, with emphasis on various approaches to discrete event modeling; application of OR to industrial maintenance and replacement; financial appraisal methods, including discounting methods; and the use of Bayesian decision analysis to decision making. This text concludes by looking at the purchasing function and the limitations of classical stock control theory in practice. Models and procedures are developed to cope with real situations. Materials requirements planning, quantity discounts, price inflation, commodity purchasing decisions, and blending problems are considered. This monograph will be of interest to planners, decision makers, and others involved in operations research.

Book Impact Analysis

Download or read book Impact Analysis written by Laurie Larwood and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1999-08 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the social sciences, the gap between research and application is a reminder that the goals of scholars and practitioners are not always one and the same. Still, the best scholarship is often acknowledged to be that which informs practice, and the best practice--whether defined in terms of efficiency, flexibility, long-term vision, or even profit--is often that which is based on relevant research. This book presents a discussion among eminent researchers, practitioners, and consultants of the new field of "Impact Analysis." They address three central issues: *the practical ways in which scholars can better ensure that their work has an important influence on practice; *the pros and cons in forging a closer connection between research, consulting, and practice; and *how, despite potential drawbacks, a closer relationship between research and practice can be mutually beneficial. In addition to practical advice, the participants offer predictions that will be of interest to applied researchers in this field and business-oriented professionals.
