Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume of a monumental work that will provide a complete treatment of all theoretical aspects of reflecting telescope optics. It addresses all specialists in the field, both within the astronomical community and in industry, and, consequently, particular emphasis is placed on subjects such as practical alignment, test techniques, and maintenance aspects. Whereas the second volume will concentrate on technical aspects and modern developments, this one is devoted to the theory of reflecting telescope optics and, together with the historical development, it will also prove to be useful to students. This book has real classic potential.

Book Prism and Lens Making Second Edition

Download or read book Prism and Lens Making Second Edition written by Twyman F and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prism and Lens Making: A Textbook for Optical Glassworkers, Second Edition is a unique compendium of the art and science of the optical working of glass for the production of mirrors, lenses, and prisms. Incorporating minor corrections and a foreword by Professor Walter Welford FRS, this reissue of the 1957 edition provides a wealth of technical information and hands-on guidance gained from a lifetime of experience. Although some of the techniques have been replaced by more modern methods, this classic book is still a valuable source of practical assistance as well as being a pleasure to read. About the Author Frank Twyman was a skilled craftsman in all aspects of optics. He joined Otto Hilger in 1898 to work on the production of simple spectroscopes costing less than £10 each. After the death of Otto Hilger, Twyman became Managing Director of Adam Hilger Ltd., a company known for the finest quality optical and mechanical work. He worked here from 1902 to 1946 and was very concerned with the practical aspects of instrument making; he designed many of the instruments himself and constantly strove to improve the techniques of optical grinding and polishing. In 1916 Twyman and Alfred Green, the foreman of the Hilger optical shops, patented the now-famous prism and lens testing interferometer that bears their names. Twyman also undertook fundamental studies in the annealing process for glass and invented new spectrophotometers and spectrographs.

Book Optical Infrared and Radio Astronomy

Download or read book Optical Infrared and Radio Astronomy written by Rosa Poggiani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook presents the established sciences of optical, infrared, and radio astronomy as distinct research areas, focusing on the science targets and the constraints that they place on instrumentation in the different domains. It aims to bridge the gap between specialized books and practical texts, presenting the state of the art in different techniques. For each type of astronomy, the discussion proceeds from the orders of magnitude for observable quantities that drive the building of instrumentation and the development of advanced techniques. The specific telescopes and detectors are then presented, together with the techniques used to measure fluxes and spectra. Finally, the instruments and their limits are discussed to assist readers in choice of setup, planning and execution of observations, and data reduction. The volume also includes worked examples and problem sets to improve student understanding; tables and figures in chapters su mmarize the state of the art of instrumentation and techniques.
