Book Advanced Development of a Parachute Retrorocket Airdrop System

Download or read book Advanced Development of a Parachute Retrorocket Airdrop System written by George Chakoian and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report proposes a plan for Advanced Development of a Parachute Retrorocket Airdrop System for the airdrop of cargo loads weighing from 2500 to 40,000 pounds from altitudes of 500 feet or less above terrain. The Parachute Retrorocket Airdrop System concept uses relatively small fast opening parachutes for stabilization and preliminary retardation in combination with rockets for final descent velocity control just prior to impact. This capability is required by the US Army to increase delivery accuracy and to provide greater protection to the aircraft by decreasing its detection to hostile radar and fire. The objectives of this plan for advanced development consist of detailed functional, economic and operational analyses of the system, advanced development hardware design, fabrication and flight testing. Book Parachute Retrorocket Airdrop System

Download or read book Parachute Retrorocket Airdrop System written by Joseph L. Michal and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents the results of an in-depth exploratory study of the Parachute Retrorocket Airdrop System to determine its potential for meeting the technical, economic and operational requirements of an airdrop system capable of delivering supplies and equipment weighing from 2000 to 35,000 pounds from cargo aircraft flying at an altitude of 500 feet or less above the terrain. Actual airdrops were conducted to demonstrate system capability for loads weighing up to 35,000 pounds from low altitudes.

Book A Parachute Retrorocket Recovery System for Airdrop of Heavy Loads

Download or read book A Parachute Retrorocket Recovery System for Airdrop of Heavy Loads written by George Chakoian and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents the results of an in-depth exploratory development study of a parachute retrorocket recovery system for the airdrop of cargo loads weighing up to 50,000 pounds and the results of actual drop tests of loads weighing from 3000 to 35,000 pounds. The study indicates that a parachute retrorocket recovery system is particularly feasible for the recovery of airdrop loads and may prove to be the only practical system for heavy loads, especially if low altitude is a requirement. Book Recovery System Design Guide

Download or read book Recovery System Design Guide written by E. G. Ewing and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document serves as the third revision of the USAF Parachute Handbook which was first published in 1951. The data and information represent the current state of the art relative to recovery system design and development. The initial chapters describe representative recovery applications, components, subsystems, material, manufacture and testing. The final chapters provide empirical data and analytical methods useful for predicting performance and presenting a definitive design of selected components into a reliable recovery system.

Book Parachute Recovery Systems

Download or read book Parachute Recovery Systems written by Theo W. Knacke and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual is to provide recovery system engineers in government and industry with tools to evaluate, analyze, select, and design parachute recovery systems. These systems range from simple, one-parachute assemblies to multiple-parachute systems, and may include equipment for impact attenuation, flotation, location, retrieval, and disposition. All system aspects are discussed, including the need for parachute recovery, the selection of the most suitable recovery system concept, concept analysis, parachute performance, force and stress analysis, material selection, parachute assembly and component design, and manufacturing. Experienced recovery system engineers will find this publication useful as a technical reference book; recent college graduates will find it useful as a textbook for learning about parachutes and parachute recovery systems; and technicians with extensive practical experience will find it useful as an engineering textbook that includes a chapter on parachute- related aerodynamics. In this manual, emphasis is placed on aiding government employees in evaluating and supervising the design and application of parachute systems. The parachute recovery system uses aerodynamic drag to decelerate people and equipment moving in air from a higher velocity to a lower velocity and to a safe landing. This lower velocity is known as rate of descent, landing velocity, or impact velocity, and is determined by the following requirements: (1) landing personnel uninjured and ready for action, (2) landing equipment and air vehicles undamaged and ready for use or refurbishment, and (3) impacting ordnance at a preselected angle and velocity.

Book Retrorocket Soft Landing of Airdropped Cargo

Download or read book Retrorocket Soft Landing of Airdropped Cargo written by William E. Nykvist and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A retrorocket soft landing system for airdropped cargo is described and mathematically analyzed. Solid propellant rockets and fixed height ground sensing, previously used in the experimental Parachute Retrorocket Airdrop System (PRADS), are assumed for this system. Seventeen variables affecting the load impact velocity are defined and used to write the one-body equations of motion for the system. A computer is used to generate 500 constrained random values for each independent variable, to calculate the impact velocity for 500 cases by solving the equations of motion, and to statistically analyze the results. It is concluded that 95% of the soft landings can be expected to have impact velocities between 2.0 and 3.4 m/s (6.1 and 10.3 ft/s). (Author).
