District XYZ adopted Project Lead the Way into the high school and middle school curriculum. Project Lead the Way is a national program which involves the disciplines of technology, science, math, and literacy. This study identifies the technology standards used by Project Lead the Way and the process of adopting them into district XYZ. Project Lead the Way uses the standards for technological literacy created by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association. Standards and benchmarks are outlined in each of the units of the Project Lead the Way curriculum. A focus group was used to identify which standards would fit into the districts standards based grading system. The focus group consisted of Technology education teachers and department heads. Findings from this study found agreement in three out of thirteen standards.

Book Technology Use Differentiation of Instruction in Middle School

Download or read book Technology Use Differentiation of Instruction in Middle School written by Cecilia Denise Baggott and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to improve the use of instructional technology in differentiated learning for students at XYZ Middle School and to formulate a solution that encouraged teachers to leverage the benefits associated with using technology to differentiate. In 2016 the school adopted a one-to-one initiative that provided each student with a Chromebook to use at school and home. Since that time, state-mandated testing scores had shown improvement; however, large disparities in those results among various subgroups exposed the need for using the provided technology to differentiate instruction. This research answered the question: How can educators improve the use of instructional technology in differentiated learning for students at XYZ Middle School? XYZ Middle School served 947 students in grades six through eight and implemented a schoolwide Title 1 program. This applied study employed a multimethod approach utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data to solve the problem in practice. Qualitative data included interviews of five members of leadership and a focus group of four teachers. Quantitative data included a survey of teachers who taught core classes. Data collected was analyzed and triangulated for validity. The themes identified were used to formulate a solution to the problem in practice.

Book excerpt: Learning to Think Spatially examines how spatial thinking might be incorporated into existing standards-based instruction across the school curriculum. Spatial thinking must be recognized as a fundamental part of Kâ€"12 education and as an integrator and a facilitator for problem solving across the curriculum. With advances in computing technologies and the increasing availability of geospatial data, spatial thinking will play a significant role in the information-based economy of the twenty-first century. Using appropriately designed support systems tailored to the Kâ€"12 context, spatial thinking can be taught formally to all students. A geographic information system (GIS) offers one example of a high-technology support system that can enable students and teachers to practice and apply spatial thinking in many areas of the curriculum.

Download or read book Bringing School to Life written by Sarah K. Anderson and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-11-08 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Place-based education is on the rise. Tired of “teaching to the test,” educators are looking for authentic ways to connect their curriculum to real life. The place-based approach brings students into their communities to learn necessary content and skills by working to meet the needs of local agencies and organizations. Students are more engaged because they know they are doing real work, teachers are reinvigorated by creating exciting learning opportunities, and the school takes on a more active role in the community. At the heart of this process is the place itself: the land, the history, and the culture. Bringing School to Life: Place-Based Education across the Curriculum by Sarah Anderson offers insights into how to build a program across the K-8 grades. Anderson addresses key elements such as mapping, local history, citizen science, integrated curricula, and more. Additionally, Anderson suggests strategies for building community partnerships and implementation for primary grades. This book goes beyond theory to give concrete examples and advice in how to make place-based education a real educational option in any school.

Book STEM Lesson Essentials Grades 3 8

Download or read book STEM Lesson Essentials Grades 3 8 written by Jo Anne Vasquez and published by Heinemann Educational Books. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Want to know how to implement authentic STEM teaching and learning into your classroom? STEM Lesson Essentials provides all the tools and strategies you'll need to design integrated, interdisciplinary STEM lessons and units that are relevant and exciting to your students. With clear definitions of both STEM and STEM literacy, the authors argue that STEM in itself is not a curriculum, but rather a way of organizing and delivering instruction by weaving the four disciplines together in intentional ways. Rather than adding two new subjects to the curriculum, the engineering and technology practices can instead be blended into existing math and science lessons in ways that engage students and help them master 21st century skills.

Book Teaching Engineering Second Edition

Download or read book Teaching Engineering Second Edition written by Phillip C. Wankat and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2015-01-15 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The majority of professors have never had a formal course in education, and the most common method for learning how to teach is on-the-job training. This represents a challenge for disciplines with ever more complex subject matter, and a lost opportunity when new active learning approaches to education are yielding dramatic improvements in student learning and retention. This book aims to cover all aspects of teaching engineering and other technical subjects. It presents both practical matters and educational theories in a format useful for both new and experienced teachers. It is organized to start with specific, practical teaching applications and then leads to psychological and educational theories. The "practical orientation" section explains how to develop objectives and then use them to enhance student learning, and the "theoretical orientation" section discusses the theoretical basis for learning/teaching and its impact on students. Written mainly for PhD students and professors in all areas of engineering, the book may be used as a text for graduate-level classes and professional workshops or by professionals who wish to read it on their own. Although the focus is engineering education, most of this book will be useful to teachers in other disciplines. Teaching is a complex human activity, so it is impossible to develop a formula that guarantees it will be excellent. However, the methods in this book will help all professors become good teachers while spending less time preparing for the classroom. This is a new edition of the well-received volume published by McGraw-Hill in 1993. It includes an entirely revised section on the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and new sections on the characteristics of great teachers, different active learning methods, the application of technology in the classroom (from clickers to intelligent tutorial systems), and how people learn.

Book Changing Cultures in Higher Education

Download or read book Changing Cultures in Higher Education written by Ulf-Daniel Ehlers and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More and more educational scenarios and learning landscapes are developed using blogs, wikis, podcasts and e-portfolios. Web 2.0 tools give learners more control, by allowing them to easily create, share or reuse their own learning materials, and these tools also enable social learning networks that bridge the border between formal and informal learning. However, practices of strategic innovation of universities, faculty development, assessment, evaluation and quality assurance have not fully accommodated these changes in technology and teaching. Ehlers and Schneckenberg present strategic approaches for innovation in universities. The contributions explore new models for developing and engaging faculty in technology-enhanced education, and they detail underlying reasons for why quality assessment and evaluation in new – and often informal – learning scenarios have to change. Their book is a practical guide for educators, aimed at answering these questions. It describes what E-learning 2.0 is, which basic elements of Web 2.0 it builds on, and how E-learning 2.0 differs from Learning 1.0. The book also details a number of quality methods and examples, such as self-assessment, peer-review, social recommendation, and peer-learning, using illustrative cases and giving practical recommendations. Overall, it offers a step-by-step guide for educators so that they can choose their own quality assurance or assessment methods, or develop their own evaluation methodology for specific learning scenarios. The book addresses everyone involved in higher education – university leaders, chief information officers, change and quality assurance managers, and faculty developers. Pedagogical advisers and consultants will find new insights and practices for the integration and management of novel learning technologies in higher education. The volume fosters in lecturers and teachers a sound understanding of the need and strategy for change, and it provides them with practical recommendations on competence and quality methodologies.
