Book Administrative Policies for Increasing the Use of Microcomputers in Instruction

Download or read book Administrative Policies for Increasing the Use of Microcomputers in Instruction written by John D. Winkler and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 1986 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the results of a national survey of computer supervisors in 155 public school districts that currently own microcomputers. Data from this survey were used to examine the incentive value of a variety of administrative computer policies for encouraging more widespread participation by teachers in inservice training and use of microcomputers as a tool for instruction in subject matter classes. Such policies include technical support, rewards and incentives for teachers, and the involvement of teaching staff in decisions about the implementation of microcomputer-based instruction. The report presents the conceptual framework for the study; reviews the literature on improving participation in inservice training and encouraging educational innovations; describes the survey and presents the survey results; and discusses the implications of the findings for educational research and policy. Statistical data are presented in 12 tables, the survey instrument is appended, and references are provided. (KM)

Book Administrative Guidelines for the Implementation of Technology in Special Education

Download or read book Administrative Guidelines for the Implementation of Technology in Special Education written by Linda Rice White and published by ERIC Clearinghouse on Assessment & Evaluation. This book was released on 1987 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Targeted at special education administrators who are involved in making decisions regarding the use of microcomputers in instructional programs for handicapped students, this document offers guidelines which synthesize relevant data on computer technology in special education and provide a framework for implementing classroom use of the microcomputer. Thirteen guidelines are presented in the sequential order in which critical issues should be reviewed in the context of an implementation plan, with the first three being of a general nature, creating a framework for incorporating the others. The guidelines are: (1) initial planning; (2) preparing for the computer's integration into the curriculum; (3) developing a comprehensive implementation plan; (4) reviewing software issues; (5) reviewing assistive device issues; (6) reviewing hardware issues; (7) providing the personnel to deliver the plan; (8) preparing staff to implement the plan; (9) assuring the plan's inclusion in the school system's operating plan; (10) evaluating implementation effectiveness and making adjustments; (11) sharing implementation resources and progress within the school system; (12) staying current with technological trends and research outside the school system; (13) encouraging active participation. Major recommendations are identified at the beginning of each section, followed by a detailed narrative. A summary, list of national resources, and suggested readings conclude the document. (JW)

Book Successful Use of Microcomputers in Classroom Instruction

Download or read book Successful Use of Microcomputers in Classroom Instruction written by Rand Corporation and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A widely shared belief among many policy makers, educators, parents, and the general public is that microcomputers have the potential to help pull U.S. education out of its current state of mediocrity (National Commission on Excellence in Education, 1983), and subsequently improve its quality. A number of barriers, however, impede the widespread implementation of microcomputers in classrooms. Along with cost, the major barrier to full implementation is the lack of knowledge possessed by researchers and educational practitioners alike regarding the nature of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes a teacher must have to use microcomputers successfully in classroom instruction. This paper addresses the standard implied in such an evaluation, that is, the nature of 'successful' classroom microcomputer use that might be embodied in the teaching of widely recognized, expert or master teachers. From the teachers' standpoint, microcomputers are an educational technology used as an instructional tool. Thus, the application of the instruction tool should be central to such an evaluation, within the broader context of ongoing classroom instruction.
