Book Quadrature Amplitude Modulation

Download or read book Quadrature Amplitude Modulation written by Lajos Hanzo and published by Wiley-IEEE Press. This book was released on 2004-11-30 with total page 1144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motivated by the rapid evolution of the consecutive generations of wireless communication systems this volume continues to provide an overview of the majority of single- and multi-carrier QAM techniques. Now fully revised and updated, with more than 300 pages of new material, this new edition presents the wide range of recent developments in the field and places particular emphasis on the family of coded modulation aided OFDM and CDMA schemes. In addition, it also includes a fully revised chapter on adaptive modulation and a new chapter characterizing the design trade-offs of adaptive modulation and space-time coding. Divided into four parts: Part I: commences with a historical perspective and classic schemes for the uninitiated Part II: offers a deep discourse on adaptive QAM arrangements that have found their way also into the 3G system's High Speed Data Packet Access (HSDPA) mode Part III: details the advanced intricacies of adaptive versus space-time block- and trellis-coded OFDM and MC-CDMA Part IV: contains previously unpublished new research results. It commences with a theoretical chapter on the capacity of wireless channels. The discussions then continue by contriving sophisticated iterative coded modulation systems, such as TCM, TTCM, BICM, BICM-ID designed for turbo-detected QAM-based space-time coded OFDM and CDMA systems operating over wireless channels In summary, this volume amalgamates a comprehensive textbook with a deep research monograph on the topic of QAM, ensuring it has a wide-ranging appeal for both senior undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as practicing engineers and researchers.

Book Adaptive Filtering and Change Detection

Download or read book Adaptive Filtering and Change Detection written by Fredrik Gustafsson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2000-10-03 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptive filtering is a branch of digital signal processing which enables the selective enhancement of desired elements of a signal and the reduction of undesired elements. Change detection is another kind of adaptive filtering for non-stationary signals, and is the basic tool in fault detection and diagnosis. This text takes the unique approach that change detection is a natural extension of adaptive filtering, and the broad coverage encompasses both the mathematical tools needed for adaptive filtering and change detection and the applications of the technology. Real engineering applications covered include aircraft, automotive, communication systems, signal processing and automatic control problems. The unique integration of both theory and practical applications makes this book a valuable resource combining information otherwise only available in separate sources Comprehensive coverage includes many examples and case studies to illustrate the ideas and show what can be achieved Uniquely integrates applications to airborne, automotive and communications systems with the essential mathematical tools Accompanying Matlab toolbox available on the web illustrating the main ideas and enabling the reader to do simulations using all the figures and numerical examples featured This text would prove to be an essential reference for postgraduates and researchers studying digital signal processing as well as practising digital signal processing engineers.

Book Gaussian Processes for Machine Learning

Download or read book Gaussian Processes for Machine Learning written by Carl Edward Rasmussen and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2005-11-23 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive and self-contained introduction to Gaussian processes, which provide a principled, practical, probabilistic approach to learning in kernel machines. Gaussian processes (GPs) provide a principled, practical, probabilistic approach to learning in kernel machines. GPs have received increased attention in the machine-learning community over the past decade, and this book provides a long-needed systematic and unified treatment of theoretical and practical aspects of GPs in machine learning. The treatment is comprehensive and self-contained, targeted at researchers and students in machine learning and applied statistics. The book deals with the supervised-learning problem for both regression and classification, and includes detailed algorithms. A wide variety of covariance (kernel) functions are presented and their properties discussed. Model selection is discussed both from a Bayesian and a classical perspective. Many connections to other well-known techniques from machine learning and statistics are discussed, including support-vector machines, neural networks, splines, regularization networks, relevance vector machines and others. Theoretical issues including learning curves and the PAC-Bayesian framework are treated, and several approximation methods for learning with large datasets are discussed. The book contains illustrative examples and exercises, and code and datasets are available on the Web. Appendixes provide mathematical background and a discussion of Gaussian Markov processes.

Book The Isogeometric Boundary Element Method

Download or read book The Isogeometric Boundary Element Method written by Gernot Beer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-21 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the introduction of isogeometric technology to the boundary element method (BEM) in order to establish an improved link between simulation and computer aided design (CAD) that does not require mesh generation. In the isogeometric BEM, non-uniform rational B-splines replace the Lagrange polynomials used in conventional BEM. This may seem a trivial exercise, but if implemented rigorously, it has profound implications for the programming, resulting in software that is extremely user friendly and efficient. The BEM is ideally suited for linking with CAD, as both rely on the definition of objects by boundary representation. The book shows how the isogeometric philosophy can be implemented and how its benefits can be maximised with a minimum of user effort. Using several examples, ranging from potential problems to elasticity, it demonstrates that the isogeometric approach results in a drastic reduction in the number of unknowns and an increase in the quality of the results. In some cases even exact solutions without refinement are possible. The book also presents a number of practical applications, demonstrating that the development is not only of academic interest. It then elegantly addresses heterogeneous and non-linear problems using isogeometric concepts, and tests them on several examples, including a severely non-linear problem in viscous flow. The book makes a significant contribution towards a seamless integration of CAD and simulation, which eliminates the need for tedious mesh generation and provides high-quality results with minimum user intervention and computing.
