Book Adaptations and Additions to ASTM Test Method E 514 Water Permeance of Masonry for Field Conditions

Download or read book Adaptations and Additions to ASTM Test Method E 514 Water Permeance of Masonry for Field Conditions written by CB. Monk and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main proposed adaptation of ASTM Test for Water Permeance of Masonry (E 514) concerns the exploration of field conditions. Emphasis is placed primarily on the measurement of water passing into the exterior face of a masonry wall, rather than measurement of conditions from water passing through to the inside face. A tentative rating criterion for water penetrating the exterior face is suggested. This measurement is useful to evaluate the effectiveness of water-repellent treatments on the surface and to assess the water that stays in the wall, possibly never penetrating to the interior face.

Book excerpt: This title provides a thorough theoretical and practical introduction to the application of neural networks to pattern recognition and intelligent signal processing. It has been tested on students, unfamiliar with neural networks, who were able to pick up enough details to successfully complete their masters or final year undergraduate projects. The text also presents a comprehensive treatment of a class of neural networks called common bandwidth spherical basis function NNs, including the probabilistic NN, the modified probabilistic NN, and the general regression NN.

Book A Critical Review of Field Adapting ASTM E 514 Water Permeability Test Method

Download or read book A Critical Review of Field Adapting ASTM E 514 Water Permeability Test Method written by MT. Brown and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper investigates the use of a field adapted ASTM E 514 water permeability test which is currently used by masonry consultants to document moisture penetration problems in brick masonry. There is a growing debate of whether this adapted test method can appropriately be used to decide if a masonry wall is considered a failure regarding moisture penetration.

Book Including ASTM E 514 Tests in Field Evaluations of Brick Masonry

Download or read book Including ASTM E 514 Tests in Field Evaluations of Brick Masonry written by KR. Hoigard and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Field evaluations of brick masonry are performed for quality control or investigative purposes. One of the many indicators of masonry performance is the permeability of the outer wythe. Field measurements of water permeability can be made using an adaptation of the procedures and equipment of ASTM Standard Test Method for Water Permeance of Masonry (E 514). This paper discusses case studies of field applications of E 514, the techniques used to obtain consistent and valid information, and some concerns about misapplication of the procedure. Modified ASTM E 514 has been found to be a useful field technique for masonry evaluations.

Book Evaluation of ASTM E 514 90 Water Penetration and Leakage Test to Assess Performance of Integral Water Repellent Admixtures

Download or read book Evaluation of ASTM E 514 90 Water Penetration and Leakage Test to Assess Performance of Integral Water Repellent Admixtures written by D. Chin and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integral water repellent admixtures have played an important role in improving performance of architectural concrete block by minimizing penetration of water into the concrete block wall. The ASTM E 514-90 Test Method for Water Penetration and Leakage through Masonry is commonly used to measure the performance of unit masonry subjected to a 4 hour simulated wind-driven rain. A laboratory test program was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the ASTM E 514-90 test method in determining performance of walls constructed with materials which contain integral water repellent admixtures, to determine the effect of extending the test period from 4 hours up to 72 hours and to compare the performance of four different integral water repellent admixtures.

Book Water Permeance of Masonry

Download or read book Water Permeance of Masonry written by JW. Ribar and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sixty-four walls were built and tested in accordance with ASTM Test for Water Permeance of Masonry (E 514). All M, S, and N mortar combinations shown in the Proportion Specification of ASTM Specification for Mortar for Unit Masonry (C 270) were used, including prepackaged M and S mortars in combination with concrete and clay masonry units, each from a single source. Research was directed at establishing the effects on masonry wall water permeance of mortar water content, cementitious material content of mortar, masonry unit physical properties, the effect of storage (curing), and exposure condition (varying water quantity and pressure. Test results showed that (1) all mortar types are capable of satisfactory performance in a masonry wall; (2) properly designed masonry walls are capable of resisting water permeance when quality workmanship and materials are used; (3) there is a need for specific controls in the preparation of specimens to be subjected to this test method; and (4) there is a need for revisions to ASTM E 514 that will incorporate a more realistic approach to exposure conditions and specific requirements to differentiate among specimens being tested for workmanship or materials.
