Book excerpt: Dans le cadre de la synthèse d'images 3D, le modèle numérique d'une scène est traditionnellement conçu à l'aide de logiciels complexes d'utilisation appelés modeleurs, puis est fourni à un logiciel de rendu qui produit l'image. Récemment, des méthodes de reconstruction basées sur l'utilisation de données photographiques ont émergé. La direction que nous suivons dans les travaux présentés ici consiste à intégrer l'utilisateur à ce processus de reconstruction de façon à résoudre les ambigui͏̈tés et les imprécisions. Nous nous sommes particulièrement intéressés aux apports de connaissances que peut fournir l'utilisateur tant sur la géométrie de la scène (coordonnées, contraintes métriques ou angulaires) que sur les propriétés de l'appareil photographique. Nous proposons ainsi un algorithme itératif appelé ajustement de faisceaux s'adaptant aux informations disponibles. Même dans le cas défavorable où l'utilisateur ne fournit aucune donnée sur la scène à reconstruire, le système de reconstruction reste opérationnel (auto-calibrage). Dans le but d'habiller au mieux un modèle géométrique ainsi obtenu, nous proposons une méthode d'extraction de textures paramétrable prenant en compte l'orientation de la surface et sa prépondérance par rapport aux différents clichés photographiques. Enfin, dans l'objectif de reconstruire des objets toujours plus complexes, nous proposons aussi un moyen de représenter et calculer le modèle numérique de certains objets aux formes douces (formes pour lesquelles un nombre important de polygones serait nécessaire pour avoir une approximation raisonnable). Pour valider la robustesse de nos différentes techniques, un logiciel a été développé, Reality. Il permet notamment de reconstruire une scène à partir de points associés sur les photographies (approche constructive) et d'utiliser des objets géométriques déjà connus tels que des boites et des cylindres (approche par reconnaissance) dans le but d'accélérer la constitution du modèle.

Book excerpt: La création d'un modèle de tête humaine à partir d'images photographiques numériques n'est pas une tâche aisée car elle renvoie à la grande variabilité morphologique des visages. Il existe deux méthodes principales pour obtenir un modèle de visage : La numérisation d'une référence physique et la modification d'un modèle existant. N'ayant en entrée que des photographies numériques de la tête, fournies en basse résolution par l'utilisateur et sans aucune connaissance sur les conditions de prise de vue, la deuxième solution reste la plus adaptée. En effet, les domaines applicatifs visés sont la personnification dans les jeux vidéos ou la téléphonie mobile. Nous avons choisi d'extraire des photographies, les informations géométriques sur les "entités morphologiques" d'un visage (informations morpho-métriques comme la hauteur et la largeur du visage, la position des yeuxou de la bouche...), de manière automatique et sur un minimum de prises de vue. Puis, nous réinjectons ces données, dans un modèle dit "générique" qui est ensuite déformé pour s'adapter aux informations extraites des photographies nuimériques de la tête. Après une étape de détourage du visage, la détermination des invariants d'un visage fait appel à des algorithmes de traitement d'imagedérivés de méthodes de croissance de régions, de contours actifs ainsi que d'appariement de gabarits. NOus reconstruisons alors, une texture à partir des photographies fournies, pour ensuite, la plaquer sur lemodèle, préalablement déformé à l'aide de méthodes issues de la déformation de formes libres. Nous utilisons une modèle musculaire afin de donner différentes expressions au visage virtuel reconstruit ; afin de réaliser une animartion faciale automatique à l'aide d'expresssions et de phonèmes pour la génération de paroles. Dans la première partie, nous nous inréression à l'amélioration du rendu de l'apparence visulle de la peau. Nous nous appuyons sur une connaissance des propriétés optiques des milieux diffusants multicouches. C'est ainsi que nous proposons de modéliser la peau humaine dans son interaction avec la lumière et d'accélérer les calculs à l'aide des fonctionnalités de programmation des dernières générations de cartes graphiques, afin d'améliorer la qualité du rendu en temps réel.

SIP problems include finitely many variables and, in contrast to finite optimization problems, infinitely many inequality constraints. Prob lems of this type naturally arise in approximation theory, optimal control, and at numerous engineering applications where the model contains at least one inequality constraint for each value of a parameter and the parameter, repre senting time, space, frequency etc., varies in a given domain. The treatment of such problems requires particular theoretical and numerical techniques. The theory in SIP as well as the number of numerical SIP methods and appli cations have expanded very fast during the last years. Therefore, the main goal of this monograph is to provide a collection of tutorial and survey type articles which represent a substantial part of the contemporary body of knowledge in SIP. We are glad that leading researchers have contributed to this volume and that their articles are covering a wide range of important topics in this subject. It is our hope that both experienced students and scientists will be well advised to consult this volume. We got the idea for this volume when we were organizing the semi-infinite pro gramming workshop which was held in Cottbus, Germany, in September 1996.
