Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adam Hawthorne is fine. Yeah, his mother left, his older sister went with her, and his dad would rather read Nicholas Sparks novels than talk to him. And yeah, he spends his nights watching self-curated porn video playlists. But Adam is fine. When a family friend discovers Adam’s porn addiction, he’s forced to join an addiction support group: the self-proclaimed Knights of Vice. He goes because he has to, but the honesty of the Knights starts to slip past his defenses. Combine that with his sister’s out-of-the-blue return and the attention of a girl he meets in an AA meeting, and all the work Adam has put into being fine begins to unravel. Now Adam has to face the causes and effects of his addiction, before he loses his new friends, his prodigal sister, and his almost semi-sort-of girlfriend.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millionaire professor, Adam Brant is hiding from life. When his broken engagement is plastered all over the papers and tabloids, he retreats to the only place he's ever felt he belonged--his late grandmother's lighthouse in Briny Cove, Florida. He vows to live in seclusion away from nosy reporters, money-hungry women and people who can't accept him for who he is. Ambitious wanna-be journalist, Megan O'Conner is stuck in Briny Cove, living with her family, struggling to finish her degree and working odd jobs. When she finds out the new tenant in the old lighthouse is Adam Brant, Megan believes she's found her ticket out. But as she gets to know the sexy brainiac professor better, everything changes. Will she choose the exclusive story or the man who has stolen her heart? EXCERPT: Megan stayed where she was and gazed out at the water. "The view is awesome. You can see for miles. It's so beautiful up here." Adam joined her, keeping his distance as he stood near the windows. Whatever had just happened between them had left him shaken and trembling with need. He had to get Megan O'Conner out of the lighthouse and back to the mainland as quickly as possible. "Are you ready to go now?" he asked her quietly. She turned toward him and smiled. "You trying to get rid of me?" "Yes." If he didn't, he might do something foolish. Like kiss her. And then what? Megan's smile faded. She looked at him out of solemn eyes and nodded. "Then I guess it's time I left." She headed toward the door. Adam caught her arm and twirled her around to face him. "Don't come back to the lighthouse, Megan. I don't want you here." She lifted that damnable chin of hers. "I don't believe you mean that, Adam Brant." She grinned and disappeared down the stairwell. Her words and smile ignited a powerful exhilaration inside Adam's chest, and at that precise moment, he knew he was in trouble. Very deep trouble. Download or read book Tempted for Us written by John E. McKinley and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an approach to Christ's impeccability and temptation through exploring and evaluating the theological models that have been developed from the early church to the present day. Drawing from tradition and the relevant biblical evidence, John McKinley argues that Jesus was truly tempted in ways that are closely relevant to the temptations common to us. Having been tempted for us in this way, Jesus can provide true help as the credible example to follow and truly sympathetic ally in the fight against sin. Key to understanding how Jesus remained unable to sin and sharply vulnerable to temptation is the role of the Holy Spirit.

Book Impeccability and Temptation

Download or read book Impeccability and Temptation written by Johannes Grössl and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-04-13 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Christian theology, the teaching that Christ possessed both a human and divine will is central to the doctrine of two natures, but it also represents a logical paradox, raising questions about how a person can be both impeccable and subject to temptation. This volume explores these questions through an analytic theology approach, bringing together 15 original papers that explore the implications of a strong libertarian concept of free will for Christology. With perspectives from systematic theologians, philosophers, and biblical scholars, several chapters also offer a comparative theology approach, examining the concept of impeccability in the Muslim tradition. Therefore, this volume will be of interest to scholars and graduate students working in analytic theology, biblical scholarship, systematic theology, and Christian-Islamic dialogue.

Download or read book The Last Adam written by Brandon D. Crowe and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is much discussion today about how we are to understand the life of Jesus in the Gospels. What was Jesus doing between his birth and death and how does this relate to salvation? This book corrects the Christian tendency to minimize the life of Jesus, explaining why the Gospels include much more than the Passion narratives. Brandon Crowe argues that Jesus is identified in the Gospels as the last Adam whose obedience recapitulates and overcomes the sin of the first Adam. Crowe shows that all four Gospels present Jesus's obedient life as having saving significance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is nothing that you cannot overcome, and he who overcomes will receive the Crown of Life as their reward. God has provided for every need of man, whether it is emotional or spiritual. It is all in the Word of God: the Bible. It starts in the mind and ends in our actions, what is needed here is our yielding to God's Word. It's not my view, neither is it your view, nor is it the world's view. What brings lasting change is God's Word View. In this book, you will see the unfolding of temptation and its effect leading to the answer God has provided for man through the finished work of Jesus on the cross and His ascension to heaven. You will see how Prayer and the Word of God can be used to see not only answers in our life but things that are about to happen. Where the first Adam failed, the second Adam has succeeded. Amen. Jesus is Grace and Truth.

Book Salvation Through Temptation

Download or read book Salvation Through Temptation written by Benjamin E. Heidgerken and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2021-06-04 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Salvation through Temptation describes the development of predominant Greek and Latin Christian conceptions of temptation and of the work of Christ to heal and restore humankind in the context of that temptation, focusing on Maximus the Confessor and Thomas Aquinas as well-developed examples of Greek and Latin thought on these matters. Maximus and Thomas represent two trajectories concerning the woundedness of human emotionality in the wake of the primordial human sin. Heidgerken argues that Maximus stands in essential continuity with earlier Greek ascetic theology, which conceives of the weakness of fallen humankind in demonological categories, so that the Pauline law of sin is bound to external demonic agents that act upon the human mind through thoughts, desires, and sensory impressions. For Thomas, on the other hand, this wound consists primarily of an internal disordering of the faculties that results from the withdrawal of original grace: concupiscence or the fomes peccati. Yet even in this framework, the devil plays a significant role in Thomas’s account of postlapsarian temptation. On the basis of these differing frameworks for human temptation, Heidgerken demonstrates the centrality of Christ’s exemplarity in the Greek account and the centrality of Christ’s moral perfections in the Latin account. As a consequence of these emphases, the Greek tradition of Maximus places distinct limits on the ability of human emotionality (even that of Christ) to be perfected in this life, whereas Thomas’s approach allows Christ to completely embody a perfected form of human emotionality in his earthly life. Reciprocally, Thomas’s account of Christ’s moral perfections and virtue places distinct limits on his affirmation of Christ’s experience of postlapsarian temptation, whereas Maximus’s account allows for Christ to experience interior forms of temptation that more closely mirror the concrete moral experiences and circumstances of fallen human beings. Salvation through Temptation recommends a retrieval of early ascetic theology and demonology as the best contemporary systematic and ecumenically-viable approach to Christ’s temptation and victory over the devil.

Book Longing Weakness and Temptation

Download or read book Longing Weakness and Temptation written by Irena Avsenik Nabergoj and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-01-14 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The themes of longing, weakness and temptation are relevant to every human and are interwoven with all fundamental ideals and values of the created, rational being. Temptation is all the more dramatic, the broader the perspective of recognition, the power of human longing and the sense of the difference between good and evil. This book is a summary of a study which compares and contrasts Slovenian and European literary works created under the influence of biblical source texts (Adam and Eve, Joseph from Egypt, Samson and Dalilah, etc.) and the works of other known and unknown origins (Homer’s Iliad, Goethe’s Faust, various versions of the myth of the Fair Vida, etc.). The ascribing of a text to a genre provides the interpreter of the text with a key intertextual framework and with a system of references to other books, other texts, other literary statements. The intertextual approach is obviously appropriate to the study of contents, symbols and forms of literary works. It shows how the source text continues to speak through the new work and how the new work forces new meanings from the source text. Later writers use important themes with a historical sense, when aiming toward a better understanding of authenticity of human existence.
