REPORT OF THE BOARD OF HOME MISSIONS. To the Synod of the Potomac. Rev. Fathers Ai Brethren: --We herewith transmit to you the annual reports of the Superintendent and Treasurer of the Board of Missions of the Reformed Church in the United States. These reports present an encouraging view of our Missionary operations, notwithstanding the financial embarrassment of the country, and show that the Lord has prospered our work. The Treasurer's report shows, that our collections this year have been S1500 in excess of the last year The indebtedness to Missionaries which was about $7000, at the close of last year, has been reduced by direct payment by the Board, or through the Classes in whose bounds some of these Missions have been located, to $3000. We have been compelled to borrow $800 to meet pressing wants of our Missionaries on the Pacific coast We placed, as seemed to be the wish of the three Synods, a Missionary in charge of St. Stephen's church, organized by the Maryland Classis, in the city of Washington, D. C. This mission costs the Board necessarily more than any other, and will consequently increase our expenditure. We have reason to believe the liberality of the Maryland Classis will respond to meet this increase. We feel assured that if one-tenth of all our churches shall introduce the plan of auxiliary societies, as suggested by the Board, instead of $1500, we shall have from four to five thousand in excess next year to report. We shall need this coining year $10,000 to successfully carry on our work, independent of the 8000 still due the missionaries. Last year we asked of the Synods $ 16.000; this year, in all, we ask only $13,000. And we now respectfully request the Synods to make provision for this...
