Book Social Inclusion Tactics for People With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Download or read book Social Inclusion Tactics for People With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities written by Chandan, Harish Chandra and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2024-10-24 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) is a lifelong condition that limits intelligence, learning, and daily life skills. People with IDDs are often not integrated in mainstream society. They have fewer opportunities to participate in recreational activities, hindering their social inclusion, which has the potential to diminish quality of life. As a compassionate society, we must understand how people with IDDs can be socially integrated to ensure their mental health and to maximize their potential so that they can contribute to society in their unique way. Social Inclusion Tactics for People With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities promotes the social integration of people with IDDs and aims to increase awareness about the lack of opportunities for socialization for people with IDDs. Covering topics such as autism, children with disabilities, and societal inclusion, this book is a valuable resource for organizations, policymakers, academicians, researchers, sociologists, and more.

Book Hiking in European Mountains

Download or read book Hiking in European Mountains written by Pablo Vidal-González and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-07-20 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nature sports in general and hiking in particular have become, in our urban and post-industrial societies, a growing phenomenon practiced by millions of citizens. The motivations and interests of this large group are varied, but they have a common element: to disconnect from stressful modern life and reconnect with nature. National parks and other protected areas are the preferred destinations, but they present an challenging contrast for land management: conservation versus tourist use. While once considered a romantic practice of escape and discovery, hiking is now a consumer product and a tourist experience. It promises experiences of disconnection, quiet and health; yet, natural spaces are increasingly scarce and more often than not they are crowded by other recreationalists. This book presents a multidisciplinary perspective on the latest trends and developments in hiking. In particular, the authors work from a European perspective with various outdoor recreation models represented and different conservation initiatives explored in the contexts of Spain, Norway, Poland, Germany and Lebanon. Collectively, the authors attend to hiking as a social phenomenon and economic opportunity, which has the potential to sustainably revitalize rural destinations, if managed properly.

Book Sport Clubs in Various European Countries

Download or read book Sport Clubs in Various European Countries written by Klaus Heinemann and published by Schattauer Verlag. This book was released on 1999 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current situation in sport reveals a large deficit concerning concepts for future developments and projects. Many traditional values, ethical standards and educational ideals are losing their significance - in particular for the young generation. In contrast, commercial media sport as well as international top sport stand to gain from the changing rating of sport in our society. On the other hand, matters of fitness, health and of general wellness are firmly grounded in the daily routine of the population. The gap in the development of sport is widening. What answers, concepts or problem-solving does a science, which deals with these topics, come up with? These are the guidelines of the "Club of Cologne", which is trying to suggest perspectives by means of active research and subsequent publications, to present models and strategies, and to enrich public discussion by offering approaches or solutions.
