Book Adaptive and Robust Active Vibration Control

Download or read book Adaptive and Robust Active Vibration Control written by Ioan Doré Landau and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book approaches the design of active vibration control systems from the perspective of today’s ideas of computer control. It formulates the various design problems encountered in the active management of vibration as control problems and searches for the most appropriate tools to solve them. The experimental validation of the solutions proposed on relevant tests benches is also addressed. To promote the widespread acceptance of these techniques, the presentation eliminates unnecessary theoretical developments (which can be found elsewhere) and focuses on algorithms and their use. The solutions proposed cannot be fully understood and creatively exploited without a clear understanding of the basic concepts and methods, so these are considered in depth. The focus is on enhancing motivations, algorithm presentation and experimental evaluation. MATLAB®routines, Simulink® diagrams and bench-test data are available for download and encourage easy assimilation of the experimental and exemplary material. Three major problems are addressed in the book: active damping to improve the performance of passive absorbers; adaptive feedback attenuation of single and multiple tonal vibrations; and feedforward and feedback attenuation of broad band vibrations. Adaptive and Robust Active Vibration Control will interest practising engineers and help them to acquire new concepts and techniques with good practical validation. It can be used as the basis for a course for graduate students in mechanical, mechatronics, industrial electronics, aerospace and naval engineering. Readers working in active noise control will also discover techniques with a high degree of cross-over potential for use in their field.

Book Spatial Control of Vibration

Download or read book Spatial Control of Vibration written by S. O. Reza Moheimani and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vibration is a natural phenomenon that occurs in a variety of engineering systems. In many circumstances, vibration greatly affects the nature of engineering design as it often dictates limiting factors in the performance of the system. The conventional treatment is to redesign the system or to use passive damping. The former could be a costly exercise, while the latter is only effective at higher frequencies. Active control techniques have emerged as viable technologies to fill this low-frequency gap. This book is concerned with the study of feedback controllers for vibration control of flexible structures, with a view to minimizing vibration over the entire body of the structure. The book introduces a variety of flexible structures such as beams, strings, and plates with specific boundary conditions, and explains in detail how a spatially distributed model of such systems can be obtained. It addresses the problems of model reduction and model correction for spatially distributed systems of high orders, and goes on to extend robust control techniques such as H-infinity and H2 control design methodologies to spatially distributed systems arising in active vibration control problems. It also addresses other important topics, such as actuator and sensor placement for flexible systems, and system identification for flexible structures with irregular boundary conditions. The text contains numerous examples, and experimental results obtained from laboratory-level apparatus, with details of how similar test beds may be built.

Book Active Vibration Control of Beams and Plates Using Piezoelectric Transducers

Download or read book Active Vibration Control of Beams and Plates Using Piezoelectric Transducers written by Oğuzhan Özgül and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, active vibration control of a structure by using piezoelectric sensors and actuators is studied. The structure is either a beam or a rectangular plate. Finite element method is used to model the structure and the transducers dynamics. The concept of self-sensing actuators (SSA) and collocation are given. The advantages and possible drawbacks of SSAs are shortly discussed and their mathematical models are given. Three different control algorithms are applied to the structures with bonded piezoelectric sensors/actuators/SSAs: position feedback, rate feedback and H control. Two methods are described and used to determine the best locations of the sensors and actuators. The first method tries to maximize the maximum singular value of the controllability and observability Gramians and the second method tries to minimize the norm of the residual deformations. Several examples are given, some for the validation of the correctness of the finite element method used in modelling, some for the results of the control schemes that are applied and some for the comparison of the configurations.

Book Robust Control Technique for Active Vibration Control of Plate like Structures Using Piezoelectric Materials

Download or read book Robust Control Technique for Active Vibration Control of Plate like Structures Using Piezoelectric Materials written by Aalya Banu and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vibration control in designing any structural system has been an active topic for decades. Ordinary controllers designed based on nominal parameters do not take into account the uncertainties present in and around the system and hence lose their effectiveness when subjected to uncertainties. To overcome this, a robust control system that accommodates uncertainties is crucial. In this research, robust control of vibration of a thin plate coupled with piezoelectric patches is investigated. An analytical solution for estimating the changes in eigenvalues of a plate-like structure when subjected to structural uncertainties is derived. The derived estimation of eigenvalue perturbation is represented in terms of changes in mass and stiffness. The results obtained from the proposed estimation can be used to estimate worst case of uncertainties with insignificant computational effort as compared to traditional estimation techniques such as Monte Carlo method. A robust controller is designed using μ-synthesis approach to control vibration at first and second modal frequencies of a thin plate attached with two piezoelectric patches, in the presence of uncertainties in the mass of the plate. Results obtained from numerical simulation indicate that the designed controller can effectively suppress the vibration of the system at the first and second modal frequencies despite the presence of structural uncertainties.

Book Responsive Systems for Active Vibration Control

Download or read book Responsive Systems for Active Vibration Control written by A. Preumont and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural vibrations have become the critical factor limiting the performance of many engineering systems, typical amplitudes ranging from meters to a few nanometers. Many acoustic nuisances in transportation systems and residential and office buildings are also related to structural vibrations. The active control of such vibrations involves nine orders of magnitude of vibration amplitude, which exerts a profound influence on the technology. Active vibration control is highly multidisciplinary, involving structural vibration, acoustics, signal processing, materials science, and actuator and sensor technology. Chapters 1-3 of this book provide a state-of-the-art introduction to active vibration control, active sound control, and active vibroacoustic control, respectively. Chapter 4 discusses actuator/sensor placement, Chapter 5 deals with robust control of vibrating structures, Chapter 6 discusses finite element modelling of piezoelectric continua and Chapter 7 addresses the latest trends in piezoelectric multiple-degree-of-freedom actuators/sensors. Chapters 8-12 deal with example applications, including semi-active joints, active isolation and health monitoring. Chapter 13 addresses MEMS technology, while Chapter 14 discusses the design of power amplifiers for piezoelectric actuators.

Book Active Control of Plate Vibration Using Piezoelectric Patch

Download or read book Active Control of Plate Vibration Using Piezoelectric Patch written by Khairul Affendy bin Md Nor and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing light weight, stronger and flexible plate panels for engineering structure such as aircraft to withstand excessive vibration has been the interest of many researchers. Piezoelectric material has been a popular choice to attenuate the plate vibration actively and numerous techniques of optimal control and actuator placement has been proposed. This research discusses active vibration control on a simply supported thin plate using piezoelectric patches. Piezoelectric patches are used as exciters and actuators. The vibration control is focussed on frequency range with modal overlap factor equal and less than one, where the peaks of the frequency response function are differentiable to each other. Analytical derivation of a benchmark model consist of a simply supported thin plate with piezoelectric patches is obtained using Euler-Bernoulli model and Lagrangian energy method. MATLAB programme is written to compute the system energy, with and without controller, due to point force excitation and excitation from a piezoelectric patch. The optimal location of the collocated sensor-actuator and the optimal PID controller gains are obtained using a swarm intelligent algorithm called Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). The result is then compared with Genetic Algorithm (GA) and verified with enumerative method. Virtual experiment is performed using MATLAB-COMSOL Multiphysics integration to verify the optimal location of collocated sensor-actuator and controller gains. Finally, physical experiment is conducted to validate the findings.
