Book Self Calibration of Multi Camera Systems

Download or read book Self Calibration of Multi Camera Systems written by Ferid Bajramovic and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2010 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-camera systems play an increasingly important role in computer vision. They enable applications like 3D video reconstruction, motion capture, smart homes, wide area surveillance, etc. Most of these require or benefit from a calibration of the multi-camera system. This book presents a novel approach for automatically estimating that calibration. In contrast to established methods, it neither requires a calibration object nor any user interaction. From a theoretical point of view, this book also presents and solves the novel graph theoretical problem of finding shortest triangle paths.

Also, the 3D Euclidean reconstruction by using the image-to-world transformation is investigated. Lastly, linear calibration algorithms for the catadioptric camera are considered, and the homographic matrix and fundamental matrix are extensively studied. In these methods, analytic solutions are provided for the computational efficiency and redundancy in the data can be easily incorporated to improve reliability of the estimations. This volume will therefore prove valuable and practical tool for researchers and practioners working in image processing and computer vision and related subjects.

Book excerpt: On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to welcome you to Da- nd stadt and DAGM 2010,the 32 Annual Symposium of the German Association for Pattern Recognition. The technical program covered all aspects of pattern recognition and, to name only a few areas, ranged from 3D reconstruction, to object recognition and medical applications. The result is re?ected in these proceedings, which contain the papers presented at DAGM 2010. Our call for papers resulted in 134 submissions from institutions in 21 countries. Each paper underwent a rigorous reviewing process and was assigned to at least three program committee m- bers for review. The reviewing phase was followed by a discussion phase among the respective program committee members in order to suggest papers for - ceptance. The ?nal decision was taken during a program committee meeting held in Darmstadt based on all reviews, the discussion results and, if necessary, additional reviewing. Based on this rigorous process we selected a total of 57 papers, corresponding to an acceptance rate of below 45%. Out of all accepted papers, 24 were chosen for oral and 33 for poster presentation. All accepted - pers have been published in these proceedings and given the same number of pages. We would like to thank all members of the program committee as well as the external reviewers for their valuable and highly appreciated contribution to the community.

Book Active Sensors For Local Planning In Mobile Robotics

Download or read book Active Sensors For Local Planning In Mobile Robotics written by Penelope Probert Smith and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-12-05 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes recent work on active sensors for mobile robots. An active sensor interacts with its surroundings to supply data on demand for a particular function, gathering and abstracting information according to need rather than acting as a generic data gatherer. Details of the physical operation are hidden. The book deals mainly with active range sensors, which provide rapid information for local planning, describing extraction of two-dimensional features such as lines, corners and cylinders to reconstruct a plan of a building. It is structured according to the physical principles of the sensors, since to a large extent these determine the function of the sensors and the methods of processing. Recent work using sonar, optoelectronic sensors and radar is described. Sections on vision and on sensor management develop the idea of software adaptation for efficient operation in a changing environment.

Book Multi Sensor Imaging and Fusion Methods Evaluations and Applications volume II

Download or read book Multi Sensor Imaging and Fusion Methods Evaluations and Applications volume II written by Zhiqin Zhu and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-07-24 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-sensor image fusion focuses on processing images of the same object or scene acquired by multiple sensors, in which various sensors with multi-level and multi-spatial information are complemented and combined to ultimately yield a consistent interpretation of the observed environment. In recent years, multi-sensor image fusion has become a highly active topic, and various fusion methods have been proposed. Many effective processing methods, including multi-scale transformation, fuzzy inference, and deep learning, have been introduced to design fusion algorithms. Despite the great progress, there are still some noteworthy challenges in the field, such as the lack of unified fusion theories and methods for effective generalized fusion, the lack of fault tolerance and robustness, the lack of benchmarks for performance evaluation, the lack of work on specific applications of multi-sensor image fusion, and so on.

Book Automated Calibration OfMulti Sensor Optical ShapeMeasurement System

Download or read book Automated Calibration OfMulti Sensor Optical ShapeMeasurement System written by Olatokunbo Omodele Ogundana and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A multi-sensor optical shape measurement systems (SMS) based on the fringe projection method and temporal phase unwrapping has recently been commercialised as a result of its easy implementation, computer control using a spatial light modulator, and fast full-field measurement. The main advantage of a multi-sensor SMS is the ability to make measurements for 3600 coverage without the requirement for mounting the measured component on translation and/or rotation stages. However, for greater acceptance in industry, issues relating to a user-friendly calibration of the multi-sensor SMS in an industrial environment for presentation of the measured data in a single coordinate system need to be addressed. The calibration of multi-sensor SMSs typically requires a calibration artefact, which consequently leads to significant user input for the processing of calibration data, in order to obtain the respective sensor's optimal imaging geometry parameters. The imaging geometry parameters provide a mapping from the acquired shape data to real world Cartesian coordinates. However, the process of obtaining optimal sensor imaging geometry parameters (which involves a nonlinear numerical optimization process known as bundle adjustment), requires labelling regions within each point cloud as belonging to known features of the calibration artefact. This thesis describes an automated calibration procedure which ensures that calibration data is processed through automated feature detection of the calibration artefact, artefact pose estimation, automated control point selection, and finally bundle adjustment itself. The process of calibration artefact selection is discussed, with the objective of developing a low cost artefact, with appropriate geometric and material properties such as unobstructed viewing by sensors, low coefficient of thermal expansion and non-specular surface finish. Automated detection of calibration artefact features is investigated, for enhancing the ease, speed, and accuracy of calibration. A novel 3-D Hough transform based on an optimised sparse 3-D matrix model is described, including methods developed for efficient peak detection in the Hough accumulator space. The calibration results of a two-camera and two-projector optical SMS based on multiple poses of the respective calibration artefacts developed, are discussed. A comparison of usage of the calibration artefacts is also made in order to assess their practicable use in an industrial environment. Based on acquired shape data of one of the artefacts, calibration accuracy of about one part in 5,000 was achieved. In applications for product inspection and quality assessment, the measured data needs to be presented in a form that provides for visualisation on a computer. A method for efficiently tessellating the measured point cloud using sensor pixel neighbourhood information is described. This method provides for the presentation of the measured point cloud data in industry accepted file formats. In addition, the measured data of a component may need to be compared against an idealised model of the component e.g. a computer-aided design (CAD) model. Methods for matching the measured data to a CAD model are therefore also discussed. The results of calibrating a multi-sensor SMS at an industrial site are presented. In spite of a less well controlled environment, a calibration accuracy of about one part in 1,600 was achieved, with the SMS subsequently used as a valuable tool for measuring out-of-plane displacement during a series of structural tests.
