Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 34 (thesis year 1989) a total of 13,377 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 184 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 34 reports theses submitted in 1989, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book An Investigation of Techniques for Removal of Cyanide from Electroplating Wastes

Download or read book An Investigation of Techniques for Removal of Cyanide from Electroplating Wastes written by A. K. Reed and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly stringent stream discharge regulations have prompted an assessment of the current technology available for application to the metal finishing waste treatment problem, specifically in regard to smaller operations. Experimental laboratory and bench scale studies were then conducted on several unconventional wastewater treatment methods, including ion flotation, activated carbon adsorption, acidification volatilization, and solvent extraction. A demonstration pilot plant study was also conducted on the activated carbon process employing actual rinse waters from a zinc cyanide plating operation. The pilot scale activated carbon system was operated at 99% efficiency of cyanide removal, while providing for the complete recovery and regeneration of copper. Cost estimates for carbon sorption process are given.

Book Solution Mining

Download or read book Solution Mining written by Robert Bartlett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-28 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1998. This book offers a wealth of information on the rapidly expanding field of solution mining: yhe extraction of materials from the earth by leaching and fluid recovery. This is an introductory text for students and professional engineers that is comprehensive and emphases current practice and theory. Percolation leaching of fragmented ground is covered, as well as true and modified in situ teaching. Solution mining of gold, copper and uranium ores, several slats extracted from evaporates and brines, and sulfur are discussed. Mineral teaching chemistry and kinetics, hydrology (including flow equations for various wellfields and other fluid recovery systems), environmental containment and solution mining simulation models are also included.

Book The Treatment of Caustic Cyanide Solutions in Gold Recovery Processes

Download or read book The Treatment of Caustic Cyanide Solutions in Gold Recovery Processes written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A process for the treatment of caustic cyanide solutions employed in gold recovery processes is provided wherein lime is added to either pregnant or depleted solutions to improve the filtration characteristics. Such cyanide solutions generally arise from the elution of activated carbon. The solution is passed to gold electrowinning cells or to gold precipitation and cycled to the carbon elution plant. Impurities in the eluate derived from the carbon, build up to a point where filtration is necessary. This process is particularly valid if the zinc precipitation route for gold recovery is used as the removal of the gold and excess zinc is achieved by filtration. The novelty in using lime is that it is most unusual for this reagent to create a flocculated precipitate in an already alkaline cyanide solution. The process is equally effective if used concurrently with the zinc precipitation or prior to it. From 3 to 10 grams per litre of Ca(OH)2 is adequate depending on the concentration of impurities and NaOH in the eluate. The pregnant gold cyanide solutions can be treated and clarified prior to zinc precipitation or simultaneously with it.
