Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aces and Orange Peels is the soul-stirring story about an intuitive Cuban woman named Spirit Leonard, a single mother from Toronto, Canada, who is compelled to make good on an eighteen-year-old promise-to unite her son, Jace, with his father, Lucas Moreno, in Sevilla, Spain. There's a reason Spirit left Lucas, and the seductive allure of Sevilla all those years ago-unspoken intuition. And now, her instincts can't bear the thought of Jace, whom she has single-handedly raised to near adulthood, becoming ensnared in Lucas's web of deception. Jace has the heart of an athlete and is fueled by discipline and determination. He's transcended Lucas's precarious path but a two-week trip to Spain could ruin everything. As such, Spirit intuits a heart-stopping tarot card message. Still, there's no reneging on her promise to the ever-persistent, Lucas Moreno. 'A broken promise doth have consequences, ' he'd say. Regardless of Spirit's strong intuition urging her to cancel their upcoming trip to Sevilla, Spirit knows Lucas will find a way to cross paths with Jace; at least while on the trip together, she can do her best to shield Jace from anything that might impede his well-being and scholarly future. While basking in Sevillian ambiance, an escalation of nightmarish visions and conflicting guidance from the ethereal coincide with the temptation of Lucas's sexual advances and, it's not long before Spirit falls prey to her former lover's persuasiveness, again, regardless of his past misgivings (after all, she is on the brink of midlife, teetering on the edge of empty-nester-hood, and well aware of the looming solitude). A rekindled romance, coupled with Jace's half-baked decision to trade higher education and long-term soccer aspirations for the affections of an exotic Sevillian Flamenco dancer, would seem Lucas is about to regain control of everything he'd once lost. In a world marred by misogyny and corruption, Spirit's reality erupts into chaos. A desperate mother is catapulted into a blinding reservoir of awareness- forced to grapple with the enigmatic aspects of higher self. To save her son, Spirit must place her trust in forces larger than her wildest imaginings and harness her innate gifts-even the nightmarish ones.

Book Valorization of Food Processing By Products

Download or read book Valorization of Food Processing By Products written by M. Chandrasekaran and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-08-30 with total page 839 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biotechnology has immense potential for resolving environmental problems and augmenting food production. Particularly, it offers solutions for converting solid wastes into value-added items. In food processing industries that generate voluminous by-products and wastes, valorization can help offset growing environmental problems and facilitate the sustainable use of available natural resources. Valorization of Food Processing By-Products describes the potential of this relatively new concept in the field of industrial residues management. The debut book in CRC Press’s new Fermented Foods and Beverages Series, this volume explores the current state of the art in food processing by-products with respect to their generation, methods of disposal, and problems faced in terms of waste and regulation. It reviews the basic fundamental principles of waste recycling, including process engineering economics and the microbiology and biochemical and nutritional aspects of food processing. It discusses fermentation techniques available for valorization of food processing by-products, enzyme technologies, and analytical techniques and instrumentation. Individual chapters examine the by-products of plant-based and animal-based food industries. The book also delves into socioeconomic considerations and environmental concerns related to food processing by-products. It surveys research gaps and areas ripe for further inquiry as well as future trends in the field. An essential reference for researchers and practitioners in the food science and food technology industry, this volume is also poised to inspire those who wish to take on valorization of food by-products as a professional endeavor. A contribution toward sustainability, valorization makes maximum use of agricultural produce while employing low-energy and cost-effective processes.

Book Codename Ace of Spades

Download or read book Codename Ace of Spades written by J. Tanner and published by RTH Press. This book was released on 2013-12-14 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blake here. Apparently I’m supposed to tell you something about myself, but I’m not sure where to start. If you asked the peanut gallery, they’d tell you I’m a con artist, a glory hound, a common criminal. They’ll toss around words like narcissist, egomaniac, sociopath. Always in threes. I've heard vagabond, rogue, and plain old monster hurled my way. And every profanity in the book. I’m not sure what book that is, with all that profanity, but people have dug deep into the appendices to describe yours truly. Who are you going to believe, though, a bunch of long-winded cursing peanuts or me? I’ll tell you exactly who I am: I’m the good guy. And today’s bad guys: Litterbugs. I've been asked to inform you that what follows is considered a short story. Short stories are like books without all the boring parts. They’re good for when you have a few minutes free. Maybe you’re second in in line at the DMV, staking out a guy who’s just taken his mistress into a cheap hotel on his lunch break, or preparing to ambush a drug dealer in a dark alley. Those kinds of brief wait situations you find yourself in from time to time. This story may contain some things you don’t like. There could be some rearrangement of facial features through fisticuffs or more advanced weaponry. I might use four-letter words like #$%! or &*+@ without all the funny characters. Consider yourself warned.

Book Medicinally Important Trees

Download or read book Medicinally Important Trees written by Aisha Saleem Khan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-07 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides researchers and advanced students associated with plant and pharmaceutical sciences with comprehensive information on medicinal trees, including their identification, morphological characteristics, traditional and economic uses, along with the latest research on their medicinal compounds. The text covers the ecological distribution of over 150 trees, which are characterized mainly on the basis of their unique properties and phytochemicals of medicinal importance (i.e., anti-allergic, anti-diabetic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-microbial, and possible anti-HIV compounds). Due to the incredibly large diversity of medicinal trees, it is not possible to cover all within one publication, so trees with unique medicinal properties that are relatively more common in many countries are discussed here in order to make it most informative for a global audience. With over 100 illustrations taken at different stages of plant development, this reference work serves as a tool for tree identification and provides morphological explanations. It includes the latest botanical research, including biochemical advancements in phytochemistry techniques such as chromatographic and spectrometric techniques. In addition, the end of each chapter presents the most up-to-date references for further sources of exploration.

This groundbreaking new volume is a comprehensive compilation of all the research that has been carried out so far, their practical applications, and the future scope of research. An earnest effort to capture every possible detail and present an up-to-date compilation of scientific literature, including their own research work, for the benefit of the science has been carried out by the editors and experts in their respective fields who contributed. Students, researchers, product developers, and industry professionals will find the book an invaluable resource and a one-of-a-kind tool.
