Book Analysis of Crash Data to Estimate the Benefits of Emerging Vehicle Technology

Download or read book Analysis of Crash Data to Estimate the Benefits of Emerging Vehicle Technology written by Robert W. G. Anderson and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this report is to estimate the potential benefits of some of the safety technologies emerging for passenger vehicles, trucks and motorcycles. The focus is overwhelmingly on systems that actively prevent crashes, but a few passive safety features are also included. Intelligent speed adaptation is excluded from this report as it is being considered separately in an accompanying report. Direct short-range communication technologies were also outside the scope of the present report. The largest potential for reducing the number of serious and fatal crashes in coming years is likely to come from forward collision detection and avoidance technologies. These technologies currently include emergency brake assist, 'city-safe' low speed obstacle detection with automatic braking, and adaptive cruise control with automatic braking (operating sometimes only above, for example, 60 km/h). In the next five years, it is expected that the technologies will continue to develop such that there will be complete convergence in the operable range of systems, and a complete integration of the sensing and intervention technologies. It is from such future systems that the largest road safety gains are likely to be made. However, BCR values for forward collision detection and avoidance in passenger vehicles appear marginal given the present stage of development of the relevant technologies (where such systems might only be used to effect in higher speed limit areas); better estimates of future costs of the relevant technology will be critical to any justification for wide-scale installation. Nevertheless, BCR values support wide-scale installation of forward collision avoidance technologies in trucks. Mechanisms are suggested for accelerating the deployment of cost-effective safety technology into to the Australian passenger fleet.

Book NATIONAL HIGHWAYS AND MOTORWAY POLICE IN PAKISTAN An Illuminative Study

Download or read book NATIONAL HIGHWAYS AND MOTORWAY POLICE IN PAKISTAN An Illuminative Study written by Saima Manzoor Arain and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-07-07 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ""The Motorway Police System in Pakistan is designed in a manner which enables law enforcement and does not encourage corruption. Enforcement action is transparent because of the tools made available and the manner in which SOPs have been prepared. It operates a traffic law which is as good as any in the world. The officers work in eight hour shifts and get weekly holidays by rotation. They live and work on the highway and are well compensated to be able to run two kitchens. In view of this, the Motorway Police has become a model for policing in Pakistan. Asad Jahangir Khan Ex-IG NH&MP."" Thus it is thought provoking: it is revolutionary, opening new vistas and bold horizons of intellectual endeavors. This book is scholarly written and exquisitely presented.

Book Development of Collision Avoidance Data for Light Vehicles

Download or read book Development of Collision Avoidance Data for Light Vehicles written by Marco daSilva and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2006 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of an analysis effort undertaken to address the following research question: What sensor(s) can be cost effectively added to vehicles on a wide scale to significantly improve our understanding and modeling of naturalistic near-crash/pre-crash driver performance? Current sensor and computer technology allows for the efficient collection and storage of driver and vehicle performance data on board vehicles. Crash data recorders or black boxes exist today on many vehicles though they are limited in number of recorded parameters and storage capacity. However, their capability is increasing. Recent field operational tests of advanced-technology crash avoidance systems and naturalistic driving data collection efforts have employed comprehensive data acquisition systems to characterize driver and vehicle performance as well as the driving environment. These projects gathered data on driver exposure to various environmental factors and on driver encounters with driving conflicts, near-crashes, and actual crashes. Unfortunately, the in-vehicle data acquisition packages in these projects cost over $10,000 per vehicle. It would be advantageous to build and install a very small, inexpensive package under $1,000 in a vehicle fleet of 5,000 or more. The presence of low-cost near-crash/crash event data recorders (EDRs) on thousands of vehicles would enable a more accurate assessment of safety benefits for intelligent vehicle crash avoidance technologies, and would greatly improve the quality of data in national crash databases such as the National Automotive Sampling System (NASS) Crashworthiness Data System (CDS) and General Estimates System (GES).

Book Accident Analysis by Using Data Mining Techniques

Download or read book Accident Analysis by Using Data Mining Techniques written by Prayag Tiwari and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-01-16 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Computer Science - Miscellaneous, grade: 5.0/5.0, , course: Computer Science and Engineering, language: English, abstract: Accident data analysis is one of the prime interests in the present era. Analysis of accident is very essential because it can expose the relationship between the different types of attributes that commit to an accident. Road, traffic and airplane accident data have different nature in comparison to other real world data as accidents are uncertain. Analyzing diverse accident dataset can provide the information about the contribution of these attributes which can be utilized to deteriorate the accident rate. Nowadays, Data mining is a popular technique for examining the accident dataset. In this study, Association rule mining, different classification, and clustering techniques have been implemented on the dataset of the road, traffic accidents, and an airplane crash. Achieved result illustrated accuracy at a better level and found many different hidden circumstances that would be helpful to deteriorate accident ratio in near future.

Book Vehicle Accident Analysis and Reconstruction Methods

Download or read book Vehicle Accident Analysis and Reconstruction Methods written by Matthew Brach and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2022-01-07 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this third edition of Vehicle Accident Analysis & Reconstruction Methods, Raymond M. Brach and R. Matthew Brach have expanded and updated their essential work for professionals in the field of accident reconstruction. Most accidents can be reconstructed effectively using of calculations and investigative and experimental data: the authors present the latest scientific, engineering, and mathematical reconstruction methods, providing a firm scientific foundation for practitioners. Accidents that cannot be reconstructed using the methods in this book are rare. In recent decades, the field of crash reconstruction has been transformed through the use of technology. The advent of event data records (EDRs) on vehicles signaled the era of modern crash reconstruction, which utilizes the same physical evidence that was previously available as well as electronic data that are measured/captured before, during, and after the collision. There is increased demand for more professional and accurate reconstruction as more crash data is available from vehicle sensors. The third edition of this essential work includes a new chapter on the use of EDRs as well as examples using EDR data in accident reconstruction. Early chapters feature foundational material that is necessary for the understanding of vehicle collisions and vehicle motion; later chapters present applications of the methods and include example reconstructions. As a result, Vehicle Accident Analysis & Reconstruction Methods remains the definitive resource in accident reconstruction.
