Book Redesigning Continuing Education in the Health Professions

Download or read book Redesigning Continuing Education in the Health Professions written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-03-12 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today in the United States, the professional health workforce is not consistently prepared to provide high quality health care and assure patient safety, even as the nation spends more per capita on health care than any other country. The absence of a comprehensive and well-integrated system of continuing education (CE) in the health professions is an important contributing factor to knowledge and performance deficiencies at the individual and system levels. To be most effective, health professionals at every stage of their careers must continue learning about advances in research and treatment in their fields (and related fields) in order to obtain and maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in caring for their patients. Many health professionals regularly undertake a variety of efforts to stay up to date, but on a larger scale, the nation's approach to CE for health professionals fails to support the professions in their efforts to achieve and maintain proficiency. Redesigning Continuing Education in the Health Professions illustrates a vision for a better system through a comprehensive approach of continuing professional development, and posits a framework upon which to develop a new, more effective system. The book also offers principles to guide the creation of a national continuing education institute.

This report comes out of a three-year program of research that aims to investigate how best the tertiary education and training system might be organised to maintain the employability of Australian workers across their working lives. Through an investigation of two different industry sectors - community services and health, and transport and logistics - an evaluation of a number of potential training models and strategies that might constitute a national approach to education and training was conducted." - NCVER website.

Book Disaffection And Diversity

Download or read book Disaffection And Diversity written by Judith Calder and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-01-14 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1993. A quiet but profound revolution in the design and delivery of learning opportunities for adults and in the accrediation of learning outcomes is taking place. Higher education is expanding at a rate which exceeds even that of the Robbins era; alternative routes for adults into further and higher education and into training are being introduced through the use of Access courses, and through the recognition of competencies acquired in a whole variety of different ways. The structure of the courses and training which adults can now undertake, the methods of teaching those courses and the types of qualifications which are beginning to be awarded reflect the accelerating social, technological and economic changes in the UK. It is aimed at professionals who are engaged in the management, provision or supervision of organized learning and training opportunities for adults.

Book Key Concepts in Adult Education and Training

Download or read book Key Concepts in Adult Education and Training written by Malcolm Tight and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As adults, we are all continually involved in learning, with increasing numbers of us engaged in more formalized forms of learning; that is, in education or training. All those involved in the broad field of adult education and training will come into contact with many specialist ideas or concepts. It is often assumed of students that they already have a general understanding of these concepts, their meanings, applicability and inter-relationships. This is not always the case. This book examines in detail over forty of these key concepts, ranging from community education and experiential learning to competence and access. It presents a clear, analytical discussion in jargon-free language. It is, therefore, indispensable to all students and practitioners of adult education and training.

Book Lifelong Learning and the Academy The Changing Nature of Continuing Education

Download or read book Lifelong Learning and the Academy The Changing Nature of Continuing Education written by Jeffrey A. Cantor and published by Jossey-Bass. This book was released on 2006-12-15 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reviews the trends in professional continuing education, including the major players - professional associations, commercial vendors, proprietary schools, not-for-profit organizations, and more - partnerships between the academy and employers, and what makes continuing education programs successful. The professional continuing education market in the United States continues to grow. U.S. employers spent more than $51 billion annually on employee training in the 1990s. This monograph reviews the recent literature and focuses on the reasons for the huge expansion of the professional continuing education market: competitive world economies that are technology-driven; the modern citizen who has family and job demands; the constantly evolving technology that affects both work and learning; and the world of higher education that is poised to participate in the community and, in turn, generate additional revenues. This is volume 32, number 2, of the ASHE Higher Education Report, a bi-monthly journal published by Jossey-Bass. Book Supporting Adult Learning

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide deals with issues that should be considered by individuals involved in the education and training of adults. In particular, this document stresses the importance of processes of curricular design and recognition of a core of skills as a basis for learning. The first section discusses recent developments by the Further Education Unit's Board of Management, the DES PICKUP and REPLAN initiatives, the RESTART programme, and the Adult Training Strategy (a national education and training strategy for adults living in the United Kingdom). The second section, which deals with designing curricula, outlines the aims, processes, and content of provision and emphasizes that this approach is as relevant to the part-time recurrent nature of adult learning as it is to full-time programs. Opportunities and access are discussed next. The fourth section discusses some of the major national-level initiatives that are currently underway to reform and coordinate further education and training. The fifth section is devoted to local initiatives to support and coordinate the provision of adult education and training, with particular emphasis on the areas of negotiation, counseling and guidance, assessment, and the design of flexible modes of delivery.
