Download or read book Echos written by Mara Marcu and published by Actar D, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-07-21 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication captures the work done at the University of Cincinnati School of Architecture and Interior Design while showcasing student work, faculty research, co-op stories, study abroad programs, and snapshots from the many events happening at our school. ECHOS is a platform for simultaneous conversations with shared ethos at UC SAID. Various constellations begin to surface and map our diverse milieu of academic and social interactions that revolve around the following five main themes: anxiety, praxis, trope, chreod, and utopia. Introduced by a series of analytical diagrams which are paired up with essays by lead figures in the discipline, the themes expand on the issues of theoretical anxiety, architectural discourse, practice, typology, self-made analogies, ad hoc morphologies inherent to research, flux and reflux - that return each disruption to a steady trajectory - similar to the natural cycle of compression and release generated by our co-op program, and the fictitious, the ideal. Anxiety collects and synthesizes among multiple contradicting theories entertaining with equanimity various solutions to design problems. Praxis looks at outcomes - may those be physical, prototypical, digital or analog, multi-dimensional and multi-media, spoken, written or unwritten - as well as working methodologies that shape design thinking. Trope begins to map out trends, emergent ideologies, and previously non-denominational design expressions. Chreod documents and interprets field conditions, rule based processes, issues of transgressions, non-smooth and nomadic entities which cut across arbolic like divisions. Utopia, while suspending various otherwise necessary constraints, allows for a euphoric and optimistic view of the world, with the goal of envisioning daring possibilities otherwise unimaginable. Utopia, therefore, foreshadows all other themes.

Download or read book Four written by MJ Preston and published by WildBlue Press. This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A chilling, heart-pounding and thrilling conclusion to the story of the Highwayman killer . . . Preston has brought a fantastic story to life” (Anthony Avina, author of Identity). Having abstained from killing for almost a year, the Highwayman is coming unglued. Unsure if the FBI is watching, Lance Belanger spends his days and nights in a paranoid malaise, longing to kill again. Meanwhile, in Bucharest, Romania, an Interpol raid leads to clues and a witness who can identify the Highwayman. Armed with new evidence, newly promoted SAC FBI Agent, Dave Maxwell heads for Bucharest, as his team of investigators redeploys their investigation on their original suspect, Lance Belanger. It would appear, the net is closing. But the Highwayman has other ideas . . . Just after dusk, outside of Pittsburgh, four strangers exit a service van and perpetrate the mass murder of four families in their suburban homes. It doesn’t take long for the FBI to connect the killings to Highwayman, and when they raid Belanger’s properties, they are left a parting gift. Another murder and a message for Maxwell from the Highwayman himself: Come and find me! The killing ramps up, Maxwell leads a posse of investigators across two states, north to Canada to try and thwart the Highwayman in an endgame that involves kidnapping, mass murder, and betrayal. The predator is now the prey . . . “This is another exceptionally fine novel by a master story weaver. Few other authors can compete with his skill set! Highly recommended.” —San Francisco Review of Books

Download or read book The conquest of Acadia 1710 written by John G. Reid and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conquest of Port-Royal by British forces in 1710 is an intensely revealing episode in the history of northeastern North America. Bringing together multi-layered perspectives, including the conquest's effects on aboriginal inhabitants, Acadians, and New Englanders, and using a variety of methodologies to contextualise the incident in local, regional, and imperial terms, six prominent scholars form new conclusions regarding the events of 1710. The authors show that the processes by which European states sought to legitimate their claims, and the terms on which mutual toleration would be granted or withheld by different peoples living side by side are especially visible in the Nova Scotia that emerged following the conquest. Important on both a local and global scale, The 'Conquest' of Acadia will be a significant contribution to Acadian history, native studies, native rights histories, and the socio-political history of the eighteenth century.
