Download or read book Academy Of Beasts XLIX written by Becca Fanning and published by Gizmo Media. This book was released on with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the shadowy halls of the Academy, where secrets and magic intertwine, I stand at the heart of a storm that could change our world forever. My life was never simple, but Theo's connection to Samuel, the feared leader of the Pure Ones, has unraveled a tapestry of lies and hidden truths, leaving me torn between trust and suspicion. As I delve deeper into a web of ancient vendettas and forbidden love, I find myself battling not just for the fate of those I hold dear, but also against the darkness within that threatens to consume me. With every step, the line between friend and foe blurs, leading me to a revelation that could shatter everything I thought I knew. This is more than just a fight for survival—it's a journey to uncover the true power of my heritage, and perhaps, to find redemption in a world where purity and corruption dance a perilous waltz.

Book The Strangling of Persia

Download or read book The Strangling of Persia written by William Morgan Shuster and published by . This book was released on 1912 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Morgan Shuster (1877-1960) was an American lawyer and financial expert who served as treasurer general to the government of the Persian Empire in 1911. In 1910, the Persian government asked U.S. president William Howard Taft for technical assistance in reorganizing its financial system. Taft chose Shuster to head a mission of American experts to Tehran. The Strangling of Persia is Shuster's account of his experiences, published soon after his return to the United States. In the Anglo-Russian convention of August 31, 1907, Britain and Russia had divided Persia (present-day Iran) into a Russian sphere of influence in the north of the empire and a British sphere in the south (with additional arrangements for Afghanistan and Tibet). Each power was to have exclusive commercial rights in its sphere. Under this agreement and other arrangements, Persian customs revenues were collected to guarantee the payment of interest and principal on foreign loans. Seeking to defend the interests of the Persians, Shuster clashed repeatedly with Russian and British officials, until his mission was forced to withdraw in early 1912. The book provides a detailed account of the background to the mission, of political and financial conditions in Persia in the early 20th century, and of the rivalry among Russia, Britain, and eventually Germany for influence in the country. The narrative covers the Russian military intervention of 1911, the atrocities committed by Russian troops, and the coup and dissolution of the Majlis (parliament) carried out under Russian pressure in December 1911. The book includes numerous photographs and a map, an index, and an appendix with copies of key documents and correspondence

Book Science Fiction Canonization Marginalization and the Academy

Download or read book Science Fiction Canonization Marginalization and the Academy written by Gary Westfahl and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2002-01-30 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science fiction occupies a peculiar place in the academic study of literature. For decades, scholars have looked at science fiction with disdain and have criticized it for being inferior to other types of literature. But despite the sentiments of these traditionalists, many works of science fiction engage recognized canonical texts, such as the Odyssey, and many traditionally canonical works contain elements of science fiction. More recently, the canon has been subject to revision, as scholars have deliberately sought to include works that reflect diversity and have participated in the serious study of popular culture. But these attempts to create a more inclusive canon have nonetheless continued to marginalize science fiction. This book examines the treatment of science fiction within the academy. The expert contributors to this volume explore a wide range of topics related to the place of science fiction in literary studies. These include academic attitudes toward science fiction, the role of journals and cultural gatekeepers in canon formation, and the marginalization of specific works and authors by literary critics. In addition, the volume gives special attention to multicultural and feminist concerns. In discussing these topics, the book sheds considerable light on much broader issues related to the politics of literary studies and academic inquiry.
