Book About the King s Choice to Build His Palace Right on Top of the Dunghill Or how to Conceptualize Jewishly

Download or read book About the King s Choice to Build His Palace Right on Top of the Dunghill Or how to Conceptualize Jewishly written by John McGinley and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISRAEL; the people, the nation, the religion. While remaining acutely aware of the shortcomings of both Heidegger and Derrida, the writer nevertheless uses insights and terminology from their discourse in the service of exposing the historical and thought trends of hegemonic proportions which have had the effect of deracinating Judaism from ISRAEL. The writer makes the claim that a "critical/spelunkative" analysis of what went into that final and anonymous redaction of the Babylonian Talmud points the way towards a retrieval of Judaism's "burning living center." The writer further contends that such a retrieval can have the effect of "returning" [teshuba] Judaism back to ISRAEL.

Book The Written as the Vocation of Conceiving Jewishly

Download or read book The Written as the Vocation of Conceiving Jewishly written by John W. McGinley and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not unlike Rimbaud's "batteau ivre," Judaism drifts further and further away from its life-force and source without which Judaism cannot long endure. This book is a challenge to the true "talmudim" within Jewish Orthodoxy to boldly reclaim for Judaism and reinscribe into Jewish study and practice that which was suppressed at the very dawn of Rabbinic Judaism. Only by so doing can Judaism be nourished once more by its life-force and source. Further, only Jewish Orthodoxy is equipped for this life-saving task. If it doesn't get accomplished by Orthodoxy it will not get accomplished at all.

Book The Prime Ministers

Download or read book The Prime Ministers written by Yehuda Avner and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yehuda Avner left England and arrived in Palestine in 1947, just weeks before the UN passed a resolution that led to the creation of the State of Israel. An active participant in the dramatic birth of the Jewish state, he went on to serve as Speechwriter and English-Language Secretary to Prime Ministers Levi Eshkol and Golda Meir, and Personal Advisor to Prime Ministers Yitzhak Rabin and Menachem Begin. From these vantage points, Avner came to know like no one else-- the inner workings of the Prime Minister's Office and four of its key officeholders. The Prime Ministers describes the personal characters of Israel's political leaders in intimate detail, re-enacts their responses to acute situations of war and terror, and unfolds their relationships with world leaders, including US Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Carter, and Reagan, US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat. Based on personal notes, transcripts and correspondence some of which have never before been brought to light The Prime Ministers offers close-up portraits of four remarkable leaders who secured the future of the Jewish state. Includes an index and more than 100 historic photographs and reproduced documents.

Book Summer s Last Will and Testament

Download or read book Summer s Last Will and Testament written by Thomas Nashe and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This early work by Thomas Nashe was originally published in 1600 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'Summer's Last Will and Testament' is an Elizabethan era stage play that broke new ground in the development of English Renaissance drama. Thomas Nashe was born in November 1567. He was an English Elizabethan Pamphleteer, playwright, poet and satirist, but little is known with certainty about his life. Much of the information we have has been inferred from his writings. Nashe's first appearance in print was his preface to Robert Greene's Menaphon (1589), in which he offers a brief definition of art and an overview of contemporary literature. His early exercise in euphuism The Anatomy of Absurdity was published in the same year. From then on Nashe became involved in numerous political and religious causes, including the Martin Marprelate controversy where he sided with the bishops. Nashe offers an important insight into the workings of 16th century English life and his writings will continue to be studied for both their literary content and historical relevance.

Book Hitting Town and City Sugar

Download or read book Hitting Town and City Sugar written by Stephen Poliakoff and published by Heinemann Educational Books. This book was released on 1978 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Hitting town' opens with Ralph, a student drop-out from Birmingham University, dropping in unexpectedly on his sister, Clare, in her Leicester bed-sit. Together they decide to 'hit the town'. But against a background of commercial radio, city-centre precincts, Wimpy Bars and dangerous practical jokes, the incestuous relationship that develops between them seems the only way of affirming their vitality... | 'City sugar', a companion piece, focuses on Leonard Brazil, the local disc-jockey heard briefly in the first play, as he dispenses milk chocolate pap over the Leicester air-waves. The worlds of commercial radio and teeny-boppers collide with the mounting of the grotesque Competition of the Century, into which Brazil pours all his self-haltred and his contempt for his Miss Average Listener.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Feminist Approaches to the Hebrew Bible

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Feminist Approaches to the Hebrew Bible written by Susanne Scholz and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020-12-31 with total page 697 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Oxford Handbook of Feminist Approaches to the Hebrew Bible brings together 37 essential essays written by leading international scholars, examining crucial points of analysis within the field of feminist Hebrew Bible studies. Organized into four major areas - globalization, neoliberalism, media, and intersectionality, the essays collectively provide vibrant, relevant, and innovative contributions to the field. The topics of analysis focus heavily on gender and queer identity, with essays touching on African, Korean, and European feminist hermeneutics, womanist and interreligious readings, ecofeminist and animal biblical studies, migration biblical studies, the role of gender binary voices in evangelical-egalitarian approaches, or the examination of scripture in light of trans women's voices. The volume includes essays examining the Old Testament as recited in music, literature, film, and video games. In short, the book offers a vision for feminist biblical scholarship beyond the hegemonic status quo prevalent in the field of biblical studies, in many religious organizations and institutions that claim the Bible as a sacred text, and among the public that often mentions the Bible to establish religious, political, and socio-cultural restrictions for gendered practices. The exegetically and hermeneutically diverse essays demonstrate that feminist biblical scholarship forges ahead with the task of engaging manifold issues and practices that keep the gender caste system in place even in the early part of the twenty-first century. The essays of this volume thus offer conceptual and exegetical ways forward at a historic moment of global transformation and emerging possibilities"--
