Book Design and Improve Efficiency and Functionalities of Electrical Wheelchairs

Download or read book Design and Improve Efficiency and Functionalities of Electrical Wheelchairs written by Dewei Guan and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are millions of people who have lost their abilities to walk and wheelchairs offer the ONLY opportunities for their interactions with people and environments outside their houses. These individuals are becoming more and more eager to adapt modern technologies on their wheelchairs to improve quality of social life and the life of freedom. However, most available electric wheelchairs, driven by traditional lead-acid batteries and gear motors, are heavy and bulky in design with low energy efficiency, limited travel radius, and scarce communication/navigation functionalities. This project is to design and prototype an electric wheelchair that is lighter, more flexible in mobility, and more energy-efficient. It will use light-weight high power density Li-ion batteries and be driven by the light and energy-efficient direct drive hub motors. It will be also designed to readily integrate with high-tech accessories for increased independence, connectivity, and useful mobility for disabled individuals. This research is focused on the following four tasks: 1) installing and testing Li-ion battery performances to prolong the wheelchair running time per charge; 2) installing and testing direct-drive hub motor to reduce the weight and energy loss; 3) designing a dynamometer based on eddy current theory to determine the efficiency of electrical motor; and 4) designing several functional components/accessories, such as iPad holder, automated battery release drawer, and wheel-extend mechanism to improve consumers’ onboard independence and convenience.

The text helps teachers understand these aspects: • The conceptual framework for testing • How to administer tests to youngsters with various specific disabilities The text also supplies a glossary and many appendixes, including a body mass index chart, guidelines on purchasing and constructing unique testing supplies, conversion charts for body composition and PACER, data forms, and frequently asked questions. Brockport Physical Fitness Test Manual: A Health-Related Assessment for Youngsters With Disabilities is compatible with Fitnessgram 10. The text’s updates include standards and language that help teachers use Brockport and Fitnessgram side by side in providing youngsters and parents or guardians with the best possible individualized education programs (IEPs). Through Brockport Physical Fitness Test Manual, adapted physical education teachers can do the following: • Rely on research-based assessments and standards for people with disabilities. • Provide youngsters with disabilities the same opportunities as other students to have their health-related fitness assessed. • Apply a unified approach for all students based on the test’s compatibility with Fitnessgram. • Create appropriate IEPs for students with disabilities. Brockport Physical Fitness Test Manual: A Health-Related Assessment for Youngsters With Disabilities has been adopted by the Presidential Youth Fitness Program as its assessment program for students with disabilities. Its online resources include reproducible forms and tables that help teachers administer the tests. Included in the online resources are video clips that demonstrate assessment protocol for the tests. Book International Perspectives on Spinal Cord Injury

Download or read book International Perspectives on Spinal Cord Injury written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2013 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Every year between 250 000 and 500 000 people suffer a spinal cord injury, with road traffic crashes, falls and violence as the three leading causes. People with spinal cord injury are two to five times more likely to die prematurely. They also have lower rates of school enrollment and economic participation than people without such injuries. Spinal cord injury has costly consequences for the individual and society, but it is preventable, survivable and need not preclude good health and social inclusion. Ensuring an adequate medical and rehabilitation response, followed by supportive services and accessible environments, can help minimize the disruption to people with spinal cord injury and their families. The aims of International perspectives on spinal cord injury are to: ---assemble and summarize information on spinal cord injury, in particular the epidemiology, services, interventions and policies that are relevant, together with the lived experience of people with spinal cord injury; ---make recommendations for actions based on this evidence that are consistent with the aspirations for people with disabilities as expressed in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Book Computers As Our Better Partners Proceedings Of The Iisf acm Japan International Symposium

Download or read book Computers As Our Better Partners Proceedings Of The Iisf acm Japan International Symposium written by Hisao Yamada and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-01-29 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This very provocative book takes the reader on a “think-out-of-the-box” journey through the development of a treatment regimen for multiple myeloma called “dtZ”. It is a firsthand account of how more than 50 patients with myeloma were given a non-toxic, precisely-targeted, anti-cancer treatment that was specifically adapted to their individual cancers. These Individualized Anti-Cancer Targeted Therapies (smart bombs) have produced amongst the best responses as well as survival rates for myeloma. Accordingly, the author argues that some patients might even have been “cured” of their cancers. The concepts and logic behind “dtZ” are carefully presented in simple language so that both doctors and patients can easily understand them. Numerous tables and figures are provided, together with clear and simple explanations. This book is a valuable resource for all patients with myeloma who want to get the most out of their treatment by individualizing treatment to suit their needs, particularly for patients who have just been diagnosed with myeloma and who are taking that very important first step in their treatment. It is also a useful guide for doctors, nurses and researchers who treat and/or study myeloma.
