Book Exterior Weathering Durability of Some Leach resistant Fire retardant Treatments for Wood Shingles

Download or read book Exterior Weathering Durability of Some Leach resistant Fire retardant Treatments for Wood Shingles written by Carlton A. Holmes and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a part of a continuation study on fire-retardant treatments for wood shingles and shakes, shingles were treated by systems selected from previous research, including commercially treated class C shingles, and exposed outdoors for 2, 5 and 10 years. This is a progress report after 5 years' exposure and fire testing by burning brand and modified Schylter tests. Generally acceptable results were obtained after 2 years' exposure, except for a reference pyresote treatment. After 5 years' exposure, all systems passed 80 percent or more of the burning brand tests except for the pyresote and the pyresote with light sealer coating. All systems showed weakness in the Schlyter, but in four of the eight systems flames on shingles were self-extinguishing. (Author)

Book Wood Fire Safety

Download or read book Wood Fire Safety written by Linda Makovicka Osvaldova and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-14 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume presents new scientific works of the research workers and experts from the field of Wood Science & Fire. It looks into the properties of various tree species across the continents affecting the fire-technical properties of wood and wood-based materials, its modifications, fire-retardant methods and other technological processes that have an impact on wood ignition and burning. The results of these findings have a direct impact on Building Construction and Design describing the fire safety of wooden buildings, mainly large and multi-story ones. The results of these experiments and findings may be applied, or are directly implemented into Fire Science, Hazard Control, Building Safety which makes the application of wood and wood materials in buildings possible, while maintaining strict fire regulations. One part of the contributions focuses on the symbiosis of the material and the fire-fighting technologies. Wood burning has its own specific features, therefore, the fire protection technologies need to be updated regularly. It also includes the issue of the intervention of fire-fighting and rescue teams in the fires of wooden buildings. Presentations deal with the issue of forest fires influenced by the climate changes, relief, fuel models based on the type and the age of the forest stand.

Book New Technologies in Protective Coatings

Download or read book New Technologies in Protective Coatings written by Carlos Giudice and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-09-06 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials are at the center of all technological advances; it is evident in considering the spectacular progress that has been made in fields as diverse as engineering, medicine, biology, etc. Materials science and technology must develop researches allowing the generation of new methods of protection to reduce fundamentally the losses of human life as well as the economic ones. The former are impossible of quantifying, while the latter are highly significant; thus, only those derived from corrosive processes in their different forms reach, in technologically developed countries, about 4% of the Gross National Product (GNP), while those derived from fire action range from 0.5 to 1.0% of the mentioned GNP. The book, in the different chapters, displays original systems of superficial protection and of low environmental impact to minimize the losses by corrosion and the fire action.

Book Effectiveness of Fire retardant Treatments for Shingles After 10 Years of Outdoor Weathering

Download or read book Effectiveness of Fire retardant Treatments for Shingles After 10 Years of Outdoor Weathering written by Susan LeVan and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some building codes require wood shingles to be fire-retardant treated. Because exterior fire-retardant treatments are subjected to weathering, treatment durability and leach resistance are critical for insuring adequate fire protection. We examined the effectiveness of various fire-retardant treatments on wood after 0, 2, 5, and 10 years of outdoor exposure. We used a Class C burning-brand test (ASTM E 108) and a Schlyter flamespread test to evaluate effectiveness. Most shingle treatments evaluated were either pressure impregnated or coated at the Forest Products Laboratory; however, a commercial treatment was used as a control. After 10 years of exposure, most treatments passed the Class C burning-brand test, but lost considerable effectiveness in the Schlyter test method. The commercial treatment was the most effective after 10 years of weathering.
