Book A Vectorized Heat Transfer Model for Solid Reactor Cores

Download or read book A Vectorized Heat Transfer Model for Solid Reactor Cores written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new generation of nuclear reactors includes designs that are significantly different from light water reactors. Among these new reactor designs is the Modular High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (MHTGR). In addition, nuclear thermal rockets share a number of similarities with terrestrial HTGRs and would be amenable to similar types of analyses. In these reactors, the heat transfer in the solid core mass is of primary interest in design and safety assessment. One significant safety feature of these reactors is the capability to withstand a loss of pressure and forced cooling in the primary system and still maintain peak fuel temperatures below the safe threshold for retaining the fission products. To accurately assess the performance of gas-cooled reactors during these types of transients, a Helium/Hydrogen Cooled Reactor Analysis (HERA) computer code has been developed. HERA has the ability to model arbitrary geometries in three dimensions, which allows the user to easily analyze reactor cores constructed of prismatic graphite elements. The code accounts for heat generation in the fuel, control rods and other structures; conduction and radiation across gaps; convection to the coolant; and a variety of boundary conditions. The numerical solution scheme has been optimized for vector computers, making long transient analyses economical. Time integration is either explicit or implicit, which allows the use of the model to accurately calculate both short- or long-term transients with an efficient use of computer time. Both the basic spatial and temporal integration schemes have been benchmarked against analytical solutions. Also, HERA has been used to analyze a depressurized loss of forced cooling transient in a HTGR with a very detailed three-dimensional input model. The results compare favorably with other means of analysis and provide further validation of the models and methods. 18 refs., 11 figs.

Book Computer Models of Process Dynamics

Download or read book Computer Models of Process Dynamics written by Olis Harold Rubin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-09-07 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: COMPUTER MODELS OF PROCESS DYNAMICS Comprehensive overview of techniques for describing physical phenomena by means of computer models that are determined by mathematical analysis Computer Models of Process Dynamics covers everything required to do computer based mathematical modeling of dynamic systems, including an introduction to a scientific language, its use to program essential operations, and methods to approximate the integration of continuous signals. From a practical standpoint, readers will learn how to build computer models that simulate differential equations. They are also shown how to model physical objects of increasing complexity, where the most complex objects are simulated by finite element models, and how to follow a formal procedure in order to build a valid computer model. To aid in reader comprehension, a series of case studies is presented that covers myriad different topics to provide a view of the challenges that fall within this discipline. The book concludes with a discussion of how computer models are used in an engineering project where the readers would operate in a team environment. Other topics covered in Computer Models of Process Dynamics include: Computer hardware and software, covering algebraic expressions, math functions, computation loops, decision-making, graphics, and user-defined functions Creative thinking and scientific theories, covering the Ancients, the Renaissance, Galileo, Newton, electricity and magnetism, and newer sciences Uncertainty and softer science, covering random number generators, statistical analysis of data, the method of least squares, and state/velocity estimators Flight simulators, covering the motion of an aircraft, the equations of motion, short period pitching motion, and phugoid motion Established engineers and programmers, along with students and academics in related programs of study, can harness the comprehensive information in Computer Models of Process Dynamics to gain mastery over the subject and be ready to use their knowledge in many practical applications in the field.

Book Multi Physics and Multi Scale Modeling and Simulation Methods for Nuclear Reactor Application

Download or read book Multi Physics and Multi Scale Modeling and Simulation Methods for Nuclear Reactor Application written by Xingjie Peng and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-02-28 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nuclear reactor operates in an environment where complex multi-physics and multi-scale phenomena exist, and it requires consideration of coupling among neutronics, thermal hydraulics, fuel performance, chemical dynamics, and coupling between the reactor core and first circuit. Safe, reliable, and economical operation can be achieved by leveraging high-fidelity numerical simulation, and proper considerations for coupling among different physics and required to provide powerful numerical simulation tools. In the past simplistic models for some of the physics phenomena are used, with the recent development of advanced numerical methods, software design, and high-performance computing power, the appeal of multi-physics and multi-scale modeling and simulation has been broadened.
